Good double, but several negatives
, May 11, 2010
First off, it was super easy to assemble right out of the box. No tools needed, but the tires are flat so you will need an air pump.
I am expecting my second child in a few months so we are not currently using it as a double, but I put my son in the doubles seat and pushed him around the house and he didn't seem to mind the "back seat". He is 14 months, weighs 20 lbs. and it did not tip at all with no child in the big seat.
I also bought the Regal Graco car seat adapter and tried it out with my Graco Safeseat. The car seat fits great without reclining the seat, so I am planning on using the doubles kit with the car seat adapter (even though Phil&Ted's does not recommend this).
Folds really easily (MUCH smaller than my Teutonia).
I bought the Jolly Jumper stroller caddy to use as cup holders. It fits on their great, but cups without a lid would spill when you have to tilt the handle bar to put in the brake position.
I also purchased the Phil&Ted's universal food tray, which attaches the the bumper bar. It is a great place to put my son's snacks. It is easy to attach and folds flat, so I you could store it in the pocket on the back of the seat.
Dash vs. Sport - extra padded seats, plastic footwell, handle bar brake, and storage pocket on the back of main seat
SUNSHADE!!!! The sunshade on the main seat is terrible. It barely provides any protection and either has to be snapped on in full sunshade mode (like in the picture) or unsnapped and not used at all...no inbetween. I did buy a kiddopatumus sunshade thing, but feel like it is a pain to attach all the time and blows up in the wind.
We haven't started using the doubles seat, but there is NO sunshade at all.
Steering- my stroller seems to always pull one way or the other. It is actually a work out trying to keep it straight.
I find the handle bar to be a little too thick. I am petite and my hands get sore from gripping it after a long walk (this was never a problem on my Teutonia).
Last- I find that I really do miss the option of being able to turn the seat rear facing. I could do this on my old stroller and thought my son had outgrown liking that, but I miss the option.
I love the tandem double idea and Phil & Ted's really is the the size/weight of a single jogger, but you have to sacrifice for a lot of negatives.
Edit: I found that the canopy off of the Especially for Kids Umbrella stroller sold at Babies R Us/TRU for $19.99 clips on to the frame of the stoller and doubles seat. This has solved the issues of lack of sun canopy on the rear seat and poor sun shade on the main seat. See my pics!
