5.0 out of 5 stars And all because Iron Maiden doesn't bring out a new studio album every year anymore..., July 10, 2005
This review is from: Wolf (Audio CD)
...that's the reason why WOLF formed in the first place! If WOLF were around in the 80's they'd be right up there withe likes of Maiden and Priest... these guys deserve a larger audience... so make sure you spread the word around!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll buy this album for Venom..., July 10, 2005
This review is from: Black Wings (Audio CD)
...and you'll end up loving every track on here... there's even a Mercyful Fate cover here (A Dangerous Meeting)

If you own Evil Star and/or Wolf's self-titled debut and DON'T have Black Wings... what the hell are ya waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for a ONE DISC compilation!, July 10, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
...and that is what the problem is here... IMO, it should have been a two-disc affair (to please everyone) I was one of the tens-of-thousands of Droogies who voted for their fave songs... and all 17 songs that appear on this disc I voted for... though there was about 10-15 more songs I voted for, as well. If you aren't satisfied with this, either buy all the studio albums (All of them are awesome...yes, even RISK) or pick up a copy of their live album (Rude Awakening)

The bonus DVD is a nice treat... looking forward to The Arsenal Of Megadeth!

5.0 out of 5 stars An air-guitarist's wet dream!!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Iron Maiden [Enhanced] (Audio CD)
I listen to this album at least once a day; it's what gets the blood flowing!

It turns out the band members hated (and still do hate) the production on this album, but the fans love it (and some say it's their best album, too!) Let's break it down, track by track:

1. Prowler: a balls out, full on rocker (one of the best album openers ever) with a speed and aggression that put all punk bands of that era to shame... 10/10

2. Sanctuary: already by the second song you realize that this band means business...10/10

3. Remember Tomorrow: I love this song! It has everything you could ask for... a slow, mellow intro; an intense buildup to the chorus; out of nowhere they throw in a time change and a few solos before going back to mellow... 11/10

4. Running Free: Maybe 3 or 4 out of all my friends listen to metal... but ALL my friends know and love this song... you just can't help but sing along! 10/10

5. Phantom of the Opera: from the moment I heard the first few notes I fell in love with this song! The BEST song on the album (and one of Maidens best) this song will make you headbang, airguitar, or just go crazy... 100/10

6. Transylvania: Best. Instrumental. Ever. 10/10

7. Strange World: The mellow tune on the album... I'm led to believe it's about vampires(!)... the solos are absolutly beautiful; so much feeling and expression! 11/10

8. Charlotte the Harlot: Another great rocker written by lead guitarist Dave Murray (he doesn't write many songs since his style of playing is improv, but when he does you know it's gonna be good) 11/10

9. IRON MAIDEN: the title track... like Prowler it only has one verse... but sometimes it's better to keep things simple... and just like Prowler is as a strong opener, IRON MAIDEN is the perfect end to a PERFECT debut! 10/10

Overall I gave it a 5 star rating (...only because 5 is the max) anyone who rates it less shouldn't be taken seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are far worse things awaiting man than death..., April 18, 2005
This review is from: Horror Show (Audio CD)

The song "Dracula" was my introduction to Iced Earth back in 2000... I've been a huge fan ever since! The theme of horror films has always been a part of band (back in the 80's when they went by the name Purgatory they actually had an EP out called Horror Show... with similar artwork... minus their mascot, Set Abominae) Apart from Dracula, my favorite song here is Damien.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite from Iced Earth!, April 18, 2005
WOW! This was the first Iced Earth album I bought... and after buying and listening to the rest of their catalogue I have to say this one is my fave! I played it through about three or four times the day I bought it and memorized pretty much all of the lyrics that day; these songs are really catchy... anthem-like, if you will.

Their mix of heavy rockers and power ballads on this album will either "Rally the Troops" or "Bore them to death"... depends on the listeners taste... However, no one can deny the intense Something Wicked Trilogy!!

Favorite song from the album: Melancholy (Holy Martyr)

5.0 out of 5 stars ENTER NOW....AND VIOLATE!!!!, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Dark Saga (Audio CD)
I love concept albums! Usually when I first listen to them I pull out the liner notes and read along... but not this one... I held off listening to this album until I got familiar with the SPAWN storyline... so I went out and bought the 3 animated series DVDs and watched them through... it seems I only needed to watch the first one (which makes sense since this album came out even before the first season of the HBO special ended) but I was hooked and became a fan of the SPAWN franchise... all beacuse of this friggin' album! LOL! As for the music... it would serve as the PERFECT soundtrack to a motion picture based on the character (but it didn't, but the movie wasn't that great anyway, so whatever)

All in all, another solid album by one of Metals best... but better if you are familiar with the storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Matt Barlow enters Morrisound Recording one day..., April 10, 2005
This review is from: Burnt Offerings (Audio CD) he f*cking owns the place and proceeds to make the metal world forget about Iced Earth's previous singers and their efforts (as least for a few years anyway)... but that's not a bad thing at all... Matthew Barlow immediately became Iced Earth's "Bruce Dickinson"... the band's sound is now solidified!!

The album opens with the haunting title track and leaves you thinking, "....WOW! Why the hell aren't these guys famous!?!?" once Dante's Inferno ends... personally I think Iced Earth's position in the music industry is perfect... those who know about them love them and those who first find out about them freak out because they didn't know music like this (still) existed... this is the way heavy metal was meant to be played. (no MTV Crapioca Pudding here, my friends) They are one of the most beloved bands in the underground today and one of the industry's better kept secrets. Like every other IE album... five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars As I walk through the blackened forest..., April 10, 2005
This review is from: Night of the Stormrider (Audio CD)
Who can seriously say they don't like this album (...or band, for that matter!!)? The second Iced Earth album features John Greely on vocals and lays down a vocal style that was carried-on (and PERFECTED) by their next singer, Matthew Barlow. Every song this album is amazing and the production is phenominal!!'s hard to believe that this album was recorded AND mixed in just 15 days!!!

If this album doesn't give you chills and thrills... then you're probably dead.
