5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely formal tablecloth, July 19, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Very attractive, and goes very well with my art deco antique silverware and candlesticks, although ti would be at least as good with very modern styles. Liquids wipe right off of it, but it doesn't feel or look like plastic. It washed clean very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty whole walnuts, July 19, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Lots of lovely, crunchy whole walnuts, I enjoyed them on cereal, in salads, and I have dreams of making walnut brownies, and maybe even fessenjun, before they're all gone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fewer tiny ants right away., July 13, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Every day we'd see two or three ants in the kitchen or the bathrooms. Since we put these down it's gotten a lot less, and I'm optimistic that maybe they will disappear completely. They're tiny little ants apparently called 'sugar ants'. They're easy to use and seem to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A novel like a vacation; easy and engrossing, July 9, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plainsong (Hardcover)
When my book club chose this author I was a bit dubious about a book set in rural Colorado, written by a man I'd never heard of. But it's an amazing book, quiet, steady, not flashy but very skillfully written. I ordered the next one in the series the minute I finished it, and I'm pleased to see that Haruf has written quite a few books in the same setting. It's an easy read, like dropping into these people's lives for a bit, and yet quite gripping.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where would the second bottle go?, July 9, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I don't see how it could possibly hold two bottles -- only one regular one fits into it. It's a convenient way to travel with a bottle of wine, making it less fragile, keeping it cool, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a mystery but a terrific novel, July 2, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Another well-written and plotted Armand Gamache mystery, as he unmasks and exposes those who corrupted the Quebec police force. Lots of Three Pines and great emotional depth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Divine decadence! Murder Mystery in Nazi Berlin!, July 1, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
A 17-year-old kid that only his nanny loves gets shipped off to help his shady uncle in late-30s Berlin. There's lots of sex, almost all of it well off-stage. The setting, the decadent bars and clubs of Cabaret and many other books, is a lot of fun and scary. It's an easy read and I'll probably explore some of the others in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story but slow in spots., July 1, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I love alternate history, even though it can be confusing. And I've always been fascinated by the story of Esther. So I was ready to be patient with this book. It grabbed me, but then got a bit slower and harder to follow. But overall it was absorbing and rewarding to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars End of a Great Series, May 22, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
At last the final volume in the Temeraire series about the Napoleonic Wars, only with DRAGONS! I loved that this series didn't focus on Europe, but went all over the world. For me the most important thing was the relationship between Laurence and Temeraire, and the latter's sweet, morally-principled character. I don't care for battle scenes, so I was glad there were only a few in this last book, and extraordinary numbers of dragons.

I'm very interested to see what Novik will write next.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The first of these stories "Tower of Babylon", is a very evenly paced, rather matter-of-fact tale of the building of a tower to the starry roof of the world. There is wonder, and simple fatigue and sharing of experience with other laborers, but I found the reading experience as ultimately unsatisfying as the protagonist's. All in all, I found the stories well and evenly written, but not very rewarding.
