5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Like it After First Viewing. Then I Re-Watched it and it Clicked, November 12, 2014
This review is from: Prometheus (Amazon Video)
Prometheus is quite the polarizing movie. In general you will see a mix of 1) shorter reviews by people who liked it or loved it and 2) Waaaay lomg reviews by people who despised it because of supposed "plot holes" or what they consider to be consistently bad writing. The second group will go into great detail about what they perceived to be wrong with the film. In my view most of their stated "plot holes" are actually cases where they are not understanding the movie or the characters' motivations, (Except for the part where they were trying to outrun a rolling donut shaped object rather than just run to the side - that I admit was pretty dumb). After I watched it the first time a lot of it confused me so I went online to see what others thought and became convinced by the nay-sayers that it just wasn't a very well-written movie. Fast forward a year - after I had read up on some explanations of the more confusing parts of the movie by different people I felt compelled to watch it again. Now, after the second viewing, I am of the opinion that Prometheus is one of the finest Sci-Fi films ever made. Of course YMMV but don't automatically assume those write-ups about everything wrong with the movie are correct becasue most aren't even close.

Fantastic just about covers it. Great grooves on the songs, top-notch musicianship, awesome vocals, and great production. This has gotten several playthroughs already and I'm ready for another. Revocation remains at the top of its game!

4.0 out of 5 stars When Did "In Flames" Turn Into "Avenged Sevenfold"???, September 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Siren Charms (MP3 Music)
... That headline was my first reaction when I listened to this album straight through. I was hoping for more of the melodic death metal that In Flames made itself famous to metalheads everywhere with. But this album is not metal; it is hard rock, hence the title of my review. But once I got past what the album isn't and appreciated it for what it is, I relaized it is a very good hard rock album. I am into hard melodic rock too; I love Avenged Sevenfold. If you are a long time fan like me 'Siren Charms' is a little jarring being from In Flames to be sure, but good music is good music regardless of who makes it. If you are unable to get past the disappointment of In Flames abandoning its melodic death roots, then, yeah, you're gonna despise this record. If, however, you keep an open mind you will find a lot to like here I believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crabcore is EPIC!!, August 11, 2014

Okay, Allegaeon isn't "Crabcore" (if you don't get the reference you need to watch their video from the new album) but that is some funny stuff! But this review is for the album. And it IS indeed epic in every way possible. From the stellar musicianship on display, which is jaw-dropping, to the interesting themes of the songs, to the astounding vocals, and the impeccable production... it's all absolutely perfect. This is heavy, melodic, and brilliant music from beginning to end. You can really sense the progression of the band from their first release to this one. If there was any justice in the music world these guys would be the biggest name in metal.

Brutal sound, awesomely heavy. Mostly I wanted to write this review to offset the silly 1-star review by Massacre. But the album is awesome regardless - recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Post-Metal for fans of Pelican, Neurosis and Isis, January 15, 2014

This is a great song if you like the post-metal instrumental genre (Think Pelican). I prefer this type of music with vocals as in Isis or Deafheaven but this is still excellent.

This is a really cool metal/metalcore band that I found through an Amazon sampler I got for free. I liked the sampler song enough to buy this album, and it didn't disappoint. Sea of Treachery made a greatly listenable album in a well-worn genre. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Absolutely LOVED This!, January 8, 2014

Deafheaven is a "Post-Metal/Shoegazer/Stoner/Progressive"-type band in the vein of Isis, Neurosis, and Pelican (but with vocals). It is also my new favorite as of this short but epic album. The vocals are very "black-metal-ish", like something you would hear on an Immortal album, only distant-sounding as they are relatively low in the mix. The music is wholly reminiscent of the aforementioned bands, and together it creates a beautiful, atmospheric wall of sound that is just incredibly enjoyable. Listen to the samples (which are fairly representative of the songs despite their epic length) and if you aren't completely turned off by the style, GET THIS NOW!

This album, this band, is absolutely spectacular! The songs are fantastic, the vocals are amazing, and oh my GOD those guitar tiffs and solos! How many fingers do the guitarists have??? Anyway, this is easily my favorite metal album this year, and probably for some time to come. Absolute highest recommendation.
