Loses a star because it's the "splash" and not the actual cologne (which I'm not certain is even made any more)

Having watched 1960s "Ocean's 11" with the original Rat Pack, I can tell you both that movie and "Ocean's 13" share similar plots, lack of character development, fast-paced action, and a kind of goofy charm that comes from the best actors of the day getting together and planning a heist in Vegas. It's a timeless setup: previously bonded guys, all smooth operators, get together and carry out an elaborate scheme to steal millions or otherwise stick it to some casino (or casino owner). Clooney, Pitt, and the others create a loose and not very emotionally engaged ensemble, but "Ocean's 13" plotline is so convoluted, it may take you more than one viewing to get all the details. Is it worth it? If it's your style--and the movie is ALL about style--then yes. Fun? You bet. Ocean's 14? Sign me up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plants over Animals, June 10, 2014

This review is from: Forks Over Knives (Amazon Video)
In the 21st century, we humans, especially those of us in modern industrialized nations, are beginning to realize that the processed and meat-heavy food we eat is literally killing us. Not to disparage the green revolution of the 60s, which sought to use industrial models to feed a growing world population, but clearly we see that it has a shadow side, and many people now seek a return to certain aspects of pre-modern food: clean organic, nutrient-rich, Earth-saving plant-based diets such as veganism. The time is right for me personally to adopt a more planet-friendly and health-conscious eating tradition, and obviously I'm not alone. This film, highlighting two doctors on parallel journeys of discovery, reviews, through personal histories and statistics, why we should all convert to a plant-based diet. Preachy? Well, sometimes, but I was happy to sit in the pew and listen to convincing stories of healing and transformation emerging from wisely choosing what we all put in our bodies.

Good science fiction that's overwhelmed, as some are, by its concept and special effects, burying the character development and core love story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate Translation, October 30, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Collection of Selected Prayers is such an important and useful book...in its Spanish version. Unfortunately, the English translation, though well-intended, it absolutely hideous. In fact, it's so poor as to be almost incomprehensible. This is a good project for a translator with greater skill than is reflected in this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revolution to Evolution, October 30, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Jeremy Rifkin has written from the edge of the future for decades, and his work is always thought-provoking or even visionary. His latest, The Third Industrial Revolution, is a timely book connecting the dots of "lateral power," ecologically sustainable economics, and the coming "collaborative economy." The insights here are not just revolutionary, they're readable, since the author takes complex ideas and expresses them with lucidity and grace. The new era may well be cooperative and sharing rather than competitive and hoarding. If so, I believe optimism is in order, and so does Mr. Rifkin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm & Articulate, August 24, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was 16 when Family debuted in 1976, and I recall how appealing these characters were--and still are today. While my own family struggled with various disfunctions, I learned from this fine series how to articulate my problems and feelings. It literally taught me valuable communication skills that I have used throughout life, and it inspired me to emulate this TV family in their grace, warmth, and emotional maturity. Believe me, there are worse role models.
