5.0 out of 5 stars fun, especially with stories!, November 9, 2008
This review is from: Gloom (Toy)
this game is fun just playing it, as it has unique game play and some rather interesting ways to hinder opponents as the game progresses, however to add more fun to the game, add storytelling to the mix. each player has five characters in their family, who they are trying to cause much pain to, and then kill them. at the same time each player is trying to kill their own characters while they are miserable (indicated by negative point values seen through the transparent cards) they can also play happy events (positive values) which cover up negative points on another player's character. telling the story of a character as they find misfortune and unwelcome (to you) happiness is rather entertaining especially in a creative and outspoken group.
whoever has the most miserable dead family members at the end of the game wins!

I am really looking forward to adding the additional families and rules with the expansions to this game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stregic, fun if you're winning, November 9, 2008

this game was really fun to play for a while, but it lost it's luster after a while. part of this I suppose is that I played with the same people most of the time. avoid playing with the same people over and over again, they will figure out your strategies and deny you resources you need. trading is a pain because no one wants to give up resources if they think you need them to win, this gets annoying sometimes.
again, it was fun for me for a few months, I enjoyed the game and it's level of strategy, but what kills it for me is that you basically HAVE to trade to win. I much prefer theCarcassonne Game because there is no trading involved.

4.0 out of 5 stars great art, spooky fun., November 9, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
I bought Arkham horror for Halloween, not realizing exactly how involved the game is. first thing, is learn how to play from someone who already knows how to play, you can learn from the rule book, but there are a lot of things to keep track of and it's difficult your first time playing.
the art in the game is astounding and is much appreciated by myself and those who I play with. it's best to have a group you can play with frequently due to the rules and learning curve. in essence, this is a Role playing Board game. very fun, and it's easy to get into the game once you know the flow of things. playing on halloween night was a very interesting experience, especially since we as investigators failed to beat the ancient one and let the terror level rise to it's maximum.
Very fun, very involved, and a high learning curve. again, learn from someone who knows how to play if you can, it will be much easier that way.
I played by myself once, and it wasn't much fun. groups of up to 8 are supported, but it's best with 4-5. feel free to modify the rules to make it easier or harder to win. great fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars randomly entertaining, November 9, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fluxx 4.0 (Toy)
the best thing to keep in mind with fluxx, is that anyone can win at anytime. while that really isn't the case, it is just about true. the rules are constantly changing due to "new rule" cards set down by the players. the goal of the game also is in a state of change as they too change as new "Goal Cards" are laid down. action cards don't change the rules themselves, but instead make the player take an action that can add or remove the new rules cards, strategy is a part of the game if you play to win, but mostly this game is fun because you or another player can win on a whim. fast play time depending on the rules in play, and easy enough to learn in one game.

also, the idea of combining the different versions of Fluxx together to create even more randomness and fun is rather exciting for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good clean fun, November 9, 2008
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This game is very easy to learn and is extremely fun! I bought it after playing it at a friends dorm a couple times, and have played it many many times since I bought it. every time I play it is just as fun as the first time. there are enough cards to keep things different each game, though I am considering buying theMattel: Apples to Apples Party Box - Expansion 1 among their other expansions. I have also considered buying the Apples to Apples Junior - The Game of Crazy Comparisons! game to add to the party box for even more funny comparisons.
due to the ammount of cards, the are rather thin, but if handled with any amount of care will last a long time. Anyone can learn this game, and it is fun for hours!

2.0 out of 5 stars beginners guide, September 2, 2008
this book is not helpful to anyone who is a serious artist. if you want to get good at drawing, want to learn more about anatomy, get an anatomy book. this book is suited for people who don't really care about anatomy, and just want to know enough to scrape by.
I did not like this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, from an animator, September 2, 2008
I'm an animation student who found the registration deadline had passed, I got this book so that I could continue learning even though I am not enrolled in classes.
what I got was much more than I had expected and I am learning so much. though the book doesn't cover everything it mentions in great depth, it does give you enough information to get by, as well as references if you want to learn more.
because of this book I have found myself coming up with ideas for short animated films, and beginning the production process. I am eager to use the material taught in the book. the content on the included DVD is very helpful as the book uses the DVD for examples frequently, making learning much easier.

great book for someone who wants to learn about the animated short.

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to follow, with great examples, August 16, 2008
this was the textbook for my principles of animation I class, and it was an immense help. if I was ever confused about how to liven up an animation, or make a movement more believable, I could look in the book for an explanation of a walk, run, jump, or any of a number of movements and get an example of the keyframes at the very least.
while it doesn't sit down and explain the 12 principles of animation in a section, it does end up covering the essentials in an easy to understand way.

my instructor put it this way "The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation is the old testament of animation, and this book, is the new testament."
