Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don't

3.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Effective, November 6, 2009
If you have been wondering why the Law of Attraction doesn't work in your life, this book has many answers. Michael J. Losier explains why doubts cancel out your best intentions. This book has many worksheets which makes it more practical.

As someone who reads 180 books a year I can say that at times I like to read a small book that gets to the main points quickly and teaches me one or two new things I hadn't thought of before. This book covers the following topics:

How to Identify Your Main Desires
How to Create Desire Statements
How to Get Rid of Limiting Beliefs and Doubts

While some may argue that this is just a summary of other people's teachings, Michael J. Losier gives credit where credit is due. He doesn't pretend to have thought up this idea on his own. Instead he adds to the teachings by explaining how affirmations may be hurting you instead of helping you. He literally shows you how to reword your affirmations so that they become powerful and effective.

You are where you are in life because of the thoughts you have dwelt on whether positive or negative. So it is always useful to read a book that teaches you how to think in a positive way. One of the most interesting sections in the book explains how you can teach this law to children. If you are very positive and still have been attracting negative people into your life this book also presents some revealing facts.

If you are very interested in this subject here is a list of books on the Law of Attraction that I think you will enjoy (they explore the subject more deeply):

The Secret of The Secret: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Runaway Bestseller

The Secret

The Science of Wallace D. Wattles: The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Well, The Science of Being Great

Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance

The Answer: Grow Any Business, Achieve Financial Freedom, and Live an Extraordinary Life

Intimate Death: How the Dying Teach Us How to Live
Intimate Death: How the Dying Teach Us How to Live
by Marie De Hennezel
Edition: Paperback
Price: $11.86
Availability: In Stock
55 used & new from $3.55

5.0 out of 5 stars A Warm Loving Book about Death, November 4, 2009
If a book about death can be beautiful "Intimate Death" is such a book. This book is lovingly translated by Carol Brown Janeway. She retains the warmth of Marie de Hennezel's writing. Marie de Hennezel is a psychologist in a hospital in Paris. She writes eloquently about some of her most memorable patients.

What would you do if a patient asked you to kill them so they didn't have to go through the natural painful process of death? How would you communicate with someone who is totally paralyzed? Should you explain that a patient is dying or keep the information just between you and the family? How do you deal with doctors who view death as a defeat?

Marie de Hennezel answers many questions that might otherwise go unanswered. She believes that you should die with dignity and when a patient is ready to die she calmly accompanies them on this journey.

What impressed me most about this book is how lovingly the patients are treated. You would imagine Marie de Hennezel to be drained by the experience of being in the presence of so many individuals passing to the next life. Yet in some way she becomes more aware of the beauty of life itself.

I feel this book would be especially beneficial to doctors, nurses, hospice care workers, psychologists and family and friends of the dying. There is one brief mention of a near-death experience but mostly this book does not discuss what happens after death.

I feel that to tell too much about this book would ruin its impact. It is best just experienced in a quiet contemplative moment. After reading this book you may feel compelled to listen to Faure: Requiem and other choral music. It is mentioned in this book as music a dying patient loved to listen to and is truly beautiful.

How Full Is Your Bucket? Positive Strategies for Work and Life
How Full Is Your Bucket? Positive Strategies for Work and Life

3.0 out of 5 stars Positive Emotions Produce Well-Being, November 1, 2009
"Each of us had an invisible bucket. It is constantly emptied or filled, depending on what others say or do to us. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it is empty we feel awful." ~ pg. 15

If you have noticed how negative people can be in general and how good it feels when someone is actually positive then this book may be a needed reminder to try to lead a more positive life. I personally am around "bucket fillers" and "bucket emptiers" and I probably would be a negative person if it wasn't for the bucket fillers.

This book discusses how negative employees can serious affect an entire organization. It explains that not all people want to be recognized in the same way so it does take some effort to personalize your compliments. I think this book would be great for managers who are usually responsible for recognition and praise.

Being more positive can apparently make you live longer and can help you fight off depression and recover more quickly from illness.

"How Full Is Your Bucket" is a good book to read if you feel yourself falling into a negative mindset. It is probably true that very negative people will not respond well to this book and may say it is not worth buying. I'm of the opinion that one idea can change your life so even though the message is really simple it might still be worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Healthier and More Successful, October 30, 2009
Deepak Chopra believes that if you are happy you will naturally be healthier and more successful. He explains how we have the happiness formula backwards. Wealth does not bring happiness but being happy might bring wealth. This is probably just because you will have a more positive outlook on life.

In this DVD, Deepak Chopra explores meditation, cognitive therapy, pleasure, existential suffering, peace, harmony, good relationships, money, choices we make daily, helping humanity, dreams for the world, death, love and compassion. He explains how we should live in the present, get rid of toxic emotions and replace fear with love.

The audience is very responsive and there are quite a few times Deepak Chopra has everyone laughing. They do become really quiet when he starts discussing death.

While most of this DVD is about Buddhist teachings there is one mention of Jesus Christ. I found that this DVD could be enjoyed by anyone of any religion. The only thing I found myself questioning was Deepak's advice to a young boy to tell people he was "universal" when describing how he felt about religion. While you can take something good from most religions and personally apply it to your life I think it would be very difficult to say believe in a religion that worships idols and worship the one true God. It would seem that you would always be in conflict in such a case.

Deepak appears in this video wearing his trademark red sparkly glasses. He is very nicely dressed with a matching red shirt and red shoes. At first the glasses were a bit distracting but he is an excellent storyteller and soon I was enjoying his tales from India. I felt that watching this DVD confirmed some of my beliefs like that happiness comes from making other people happy and that you are happier when you have a sense of accomplishment.

Healthy Aging: A Lifelong Guide to Your Physical and Spiritual Well-Being
Healthy Aging: A Lifelong Guide to Your Physical and Spiritual Well-Being

3.0 out of 5 stars Aging Gracefully, October 29, 2009
"To age gracefully requires that we stop denying the fact of aging and learn and practice what we have to do to keep our bodies and minds in good working order through all the phases of life." ~ pg. 6

In a world of fast-paced doctor's appointments I think we are all longing for someone to take the time to actually care about our concerns, especially aging. In "Healthy Aging" Dr. Weil states the realities of aging and then explores the positive aspects of aging gracefully. His warm enveloping writing style takes you to a peaceful receptive place. Instead of promoting a "grow younger" approach, Dr. Weil encourages the reader to forget about antiaging and to focus on "minimizing the impact of age-related disease."

Some of the chapters on aging had more to do with food (like aged cheese) and will probably make you hungry. I liked the discussion about Dr. Weil's visits to see ancient trees but felt that the discussion was only a way to make the reader see aging from a positive perspective.

The helpful information in this book is mostly about learning breathing exercises and learning how to meditate. Some of the supplements mentioned include DHEA (he makes no mention of 7-Keto DHEA), ginseng and medicinal mushrooms.

I would not recommend this book to you as the only book about aging you ever read. If you like books by Dr. Weil then I can recommend this to you. If you are more inclined to be interested in how you can slow down the aging process then I can recommend:

5.0 out of 5 stars Exotic Essential Oils, October 28, 2009

I've recently become a fan of "Smoking Joe's Fragrance Oils." There are so many oils to try and so many unique blends. You can buy just a half an ounce to one ounce of oil to try them and also buy larger sizes once you have discovered your favorite oils.

Recently someone wrote me about essential oils and I introduced them to this brand. I think these are some of the best essential oils on the market.

This vanilla fragrance oil is especially pretty with a delicate hint of sweetness. It is the mildest oil I've tried in my oil burner. I use an oil burner because when you heat the oil in water on the top of the burner it diffuses through the entire room and even drifts into other parts of the house.

If you love one oil, I can almost guarantee you will love them all. I have also tried and loved the following oils:

Lilac Fragrance Oil 1/2 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - I use this as a furniture oil - just mix it with a lemon or lavender furniture oil.

African Rain Fragrance Oil 1 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - A subtle blend of warm damp earth and flowers. I've never smelled anything like this before. It will leave you heady.

Lotus Fragrance Oil 1/2 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - burn this while you exercise with a yoga DVD.

Arabian Nights Fragrance Oil 1 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - This is one of the most exotic oil blends I've tried. I love using this oil when I'm reading books.

Aphrodisia Fragrance Oil 1 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - This is a very exciting oil you may want to wear as a perfume.

Egyptian Musk Fragrance Oil 1/2 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - This musk fragrance is very light and not at all overpowering. It will make you feel a little heady if you use it as a perfume.

Cedarwood Fragrance Oil 1/2 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense- Smells exactly like a cedarwood chest.

Cinnamon Fragrance Oil 1/2 Oz. By Smoking Joe's Incense - Spicy and delicious. Goes well with vanilla to fill your house with the scents of baking.

Try just one of these oils and then don't be surprised when you want
to buy them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Potato Soup and Mushroom Bread, October 28, 2009
"Potato soup is one of my favorite soups. I worked on this recipe for about three months. I know my tasters were getting tired of it by the time I finally found the right combination. But now, everyone that has tried it keeps asking when I'm going to make more." ~ pg. 46

"Stir, Laugh, Repeat" is filled with tasty recipes that are easy to make. I made the Potato Soup and Mushroom Bread. I'd suggest that before you make the Mushroom Bread you put foil on the baking sheet. I didn't and lived to tell about it because the cheese gets baked onto the sheet. This is however a bread that is delicious and scented up the entire kitchen. My husband accused me of eating it all. Well I had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and he just had it for dinner. I'd make one suggestion for the recipe - toss the garlic with the mushrooms and olive oil. If you use a garlic press like I do it will be almost impossible to "sprinkle" garlic on the bread.

The recipe I tried tonight was the Potato Soup. It is very easy to make and would be perfect as a first course to a dinner menu. It calls for six medium potatoes and I guessed correctly that this would be about 2 ¼ pounds unpeeled potatoes. The recipe calls for cheese so I assumed it was for cheddar cheese. Also I couldn't find any canned Portobella mushrooms so I just used button mushrooms. There is no need to cook up bacon if you just use Bacon Bits. While the recipe calls for salt and pepper to taste I found that it needed 3 teaspoons of Lawry's seasoning salt and lots of freshly ground pepper. I also added 2 teaspoons of chicken base to season the soup. You can really adapt this recipe to your individual tastes. I liked the addition of sour cream and dried onions, although I added the onions when I was cooking the potatoes because I figured they needed time to rehydrate.

So I can recommend those two recipes to you with a few adaptations. All of the recipes have little stories with them and also include a special kitchen tip. Some of the other recipes you may enjoy include:

Coconut Loaf Cake
Chicken Casserole for a Crowd
Key Lime Pie
Brown Sugar Banana Nut Bread
Pecan Muffins

I look forward to trying other recipes, especially some of the desserts. :)

Christians Going to Hell

4.0 out of 5 stars "Eternal" Life Changing Message, October 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Christians Going to Hell" is a sobering title until you read that the message is quite simple. Those going to hell have not asked Jesus to forgive their sins. So are they really Christians after all? Technically they are not. This book teaches that to get to heaven you need to ask for forgiveness and also be forgiving. If you don't forgive others then you cannot be forgiven.

At the start of this book Seung Woo Byun presents vivid examples of people who had negative near-death experiences. In my own life I've only heard of one person who claimed to be a Christian who had a negative near-death experience. I imagine there are many more stories but people are too embarrassed or scared to tell them. There are however now books on negative near-death experiences that are worth taking seriously.

After reading "Christians Going to Hell" I now understand salvation on a deeper level. I've come to the conclusion on my own that you may not be a real Christian if you continue to live in sin. That is why it is so essential to read books like Defeat the 7 Deadly Sins. You may find that in life you are always fighting one or more deadly sins.

This book will show you why it is so important to not only follow Jesus' teachings but to also love Jesus above all else. In my own life if I love something more than Jesus I've noticed that it is taken away from me.

While reading this book you may come to the conclusion that to get to heaven you need to be sinless. The author does however state that even if you are a real Christian you will still sin. You just have to keep asking for forgiveness and not remain in a sinful state.

The real problem, according to this book, is that some Christians feel they can live in sin and still go to heaven. The author seems to believe that these people are not real Christians because they should be victorious.

I used to think that if you were "saved" then you would always be "saved." After reading many of the Bible verses presented in this book I'm no longer so sure this is true. This book teaches that your salvation can be taken away from you if you are unforgiving or living in direct disobedience to God's laws. This is a sobering statement to make but "if" it is true I'm glad I read this book. If this book makes you a better person because you fear you may lose your salvation then I guess it is worth the price.

The only real problem I have with the idea of your salvation being taken away is that everyone is on their own path towards becoming more mature. So if you were saved at a young age you have hardly had a chance to live or to face a wide variety of temptations. Even if you are saved at a later age you still might not be aware of all the types of sins you should avoid. What would have made this book even better was a chapter or two on sins to avoid. So while this book raises many questions I think some people are on a salvation journey and become Christians again and again througout their lives. At least that is how it has been for me.

Other items I think you would enjoy include:

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing and Calming Ideas, October 25, 2009
"If you have the expectations that you can grow younger and live longer, this will be your experience." ~ pg. 19

After reading "Grow Younger, Live Longer" I had the desire to go looking for sandalwood soap and took out my Kama Sutra massage oils to give my husband a back massage. This book will inspire you to live a little more sensuously and mindfully. Although I must say that the idea about meditating before you eat your dinner may be a little unrealistic if you are the one preparing your dinner. I find meditation is best after doing yoga in the evening.

Deepak Chopra and David Simon do not state that you will never age or completely reverse aging but describe how you can reset your Biostat (biological age). That just means you will be up to fifteen years younger than your chronological age. Simple things are suggested like taking supplements, drinking more water or developing an exercise routine. There are a few instructions for doing yoga but I'd advise you to rent some yoga DVDs from Neflix (or buy some here at amazon) which will give you a far more realistic experience. I think if you are new to yoga a good instructor is vital to your success.

"Toxic emotions are often the most harmful accelerators of the aging process. Commit to releasing them from your heart and mind." ~ pg. 158

While reading this excellent book I was made aware of some things I really needed to hear. I liked the sections on present-moment awareness, breaking habitual patterns and forgiveness.

Deepak Chopra and David Simon have created a very healing, nurturing book that seems to lull you into a sense of security and peace. From this new state of awareness you are then inspired to try out a few of the ideas presented and to make lasting changes in your life.

Don't be surprised if you read this book and suddenly have the urge to go walk on a beach or to try out some Ayurvedic beauty care items. We all know stress accelerates aging so why not spend the evening with a good book in bed. I found this book to be calming and informative and I'm glad I finally read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Contrast Between Mediocrity and Ecstasy, October 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"I've had enough
of this parade
I'm thinking of
the words to say"

"Closer" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It is filled with longing and a definite element of security. I love when Fran Healy sings: "I'll never leave you." This is really a romantic song and the music video is quite funny.

There is a contrast between an ordinary mundane existence (working at the grocery store) and a feeling of emotional ecstasy. The look on Healy's face is priceless and makes me keep watching the video over and over again.

I also thought the choreography with the shopping carts was very original. Dougie Payne adds humor to the video. He literally throws the groceries causing the customers to be totally shocked. Since I used to be a clerk at a grocery store I found this to be very funny. He also gets up on the transit belt and plays his guitar as if it was the most natural thing in the world to do. Ben Stiller also makes an appearance as the store manager.

"Keep waking up (waking up)
without you here (without you here)
another day (another day)
another year (another year)
I seek the truth (seek the truth)
We set apart (we set apart)
Thinking of
a second chance (a second chance)"

So if you are looking for something romantic and funny then I can recommend this to you. I think "Closer" is the Scottish band Travis' best song ever. I rarely buy singles but I had to have this song. You can watch the video for free at youtube and then decide if you want to buy this single. My guess is you will be back to buy it within minutes.
