4.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, needs a few more holes., June 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Mounting certain items within a Leviton Structured Media Cabinet is made easier with this bracket, although the hole/slot pattern is not always optimum. I've had to drill a few extra holes on occasion. The price, on the other hand, is much too high.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Roku memory expansion, June 5, 2014

An inexpensive memory expansion for my Roku 2XS. 2GB would probably have sufficed, but they are now scarce and not significantly cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great child sunglasses, June 5, 2014

My granddaughter loves them and, unlike the 2-3 year old version (which she also had), these hinge. Consequently they can be stored compactly in a standard case. Excellent protection from edge leakage, albeit with the loss of peripheral vision that is standard for this style.

3.0 out of 5 stars Neither Blue nor Anodized, June 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Positives:
- The material is aluminum
- The screws are stainless
Negatives:
- The color is not blue, it is black
- The finish is not anodized, it is enamel paint

The front of the paper insert is largely as shown in the photo, including the model number: 35606. On the reverse of the insert appears the bar-code, UPC-10: 85334-35606. However, stuck on the outside of the blister-pack is a different bar-code, UPC-10: 85334-35607. Perhaps the latter relates for the change in color and finish. Too bad Amazon do not accurately describe what they sell.

My prior experience with enamel coated aluminum suggests that within a few years of exposure, the enamel will begin to crack and will subsequently flake off, over a period of years.

The stainless steel screws are 1 inch long, sufficient for mounting to lumber, or to masonry (with plastic anchors, not provided), but too short for adequately reaching lumber through exterior drywall, or such. Their quantity is four, as needed, not six, as shown in the photo.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interferes with turning pages, December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was disappointed by this item. As mentioned by others it is a cheap plastic extrusion. Not previously mentioned is that it has longitudinal ribs that interfere with turning the pages of one's music book. I ended up moving it from the music stand's bottom lip to the top edge, hanging over the back, where it can still hold pencils (and my Korg tuner) but does not interfere with turning pages. My hope is that it can remain in that position when I acquire a music stand lamp.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good film, worthless release, July 26, 2006
This review is from: Like Water for Chocolate (DVD)
Film: 4.5 stars; DVD: 0 stars

(DVD released March 2000)

This is a very good - albeit not great - film whose DVD release has been ruined by Disney, as they so often do:

- 18(!) minutes deleted from the theatrically released version

- non-anamorphic transfer

It's been over six years since the DVD was released. One can only hope that an un-butchered version is in the works. However, based on Disney's track record, and on the quality of their marketing "wizards", I'm not holding my breath. Don't know if Disney licenses to Criterion but, if so, that may be the only way we get a decent DVD release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Original Aspect Ratio?, November 27, 2005
This review is from: La Chevre (DVD)
According to the film's IMDb entry, which has been updated and now appears to be accurate, the original aspect ratio (OAR) is 1.66:1 (5:3).

Kino's DVD is specified as having a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, which makes no sense.

An anamorphic transfer of a 1.66:1 film, when viewed on a 16:9 (1.77:1) widescreen TV, should be full height, and have narrow side-bars.

Can anyone comment on how the Kino DVD renders this film on a 16:9 TV?

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, November 1, 2005
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Disclaimers: So far I've only tried the FM-CF in a laptop (Dell Latitude D600, WinXP Pro). If I get around to trying it in an iPAQ, and my impression improves, I'll repost. I have only used it in Sarasota, Florida, where there are a few local stations, but most are 30+ miles away (Tampa, St. Petersburg), albeit with flat topography.

Reception is worse than with my car's radio, my home receiver, or a Sangean SR-2 analog tuner pocket radio (which is itself far from great). Of the few stations that the FM-CF will tune, almost all are noisy. Of the latter, some become tolerable when one forces monophonic operation. There is no provision for setting a signal to noise ratio (SNR) threshold.

The Win32 control application (v1.1) is gaudily colored and not skinable. Many of the button labels use serif fonts and small typeface, neither of which can be changed. The preset buttons display only the station's frequency; there is no provision to label the buttons with the respective station's call letters. Overall, it's hard on half-century-old eyes.

The control app. provides one configuration setting, "Radio System", with three options:

- USA (88-108 MHz)

- Europe (87.5-108 MHz)

- Japan (76-91 MHz)

Perplexingly, that setting does not localize the carrier frequencies and channel spacing. Having selected USA, I would have expected the tuner to only stop at odd multiples of 100 kHz (0.1 MHz). Instead, it stops every 100 kHz, whether manually stepping or automatically seeking.

Ambicom does not offer a Software Developer's Kit (SDK), or an Application Programmer's Interface (API) to the device driver. Hence, writing a better control program appears improbable. Nor are Linux or BSD flavors supported by Ambicom.

My advice would be to pass on this product and apply your thirty+ bucks toward a pocket radio, perhaps a digitally tuned Sangean (which'll cost you another twenty).

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but dated, September 9, 2005
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Five years from publication, this book is still useful, in context. It predates GRUB, assuming only LILO. It also predates WinXP, but much of the Win2k coverage is applicable to XP. OS/2 and BeOS coverage are now of less interest.

Can be bought used for single digit bucks.

An updated second edition would be welcome.

Astonica 50801030 3-Bird Birdbath (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
Astonica 50801030 3-Bird Birdbath (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, atrocious packaging., August 11, 2003
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Aesthetically pleasing, although a lighter green that photo shows.
Description is incorrect: bowl and birds are aluminum, but post, base, and feet are iron or steel. Threaded studs, washers, and nuts that mount birds to bowl are (non-stainless) steel. Expect galvanic action due to contact of dissimilar metals. Don't know about hardware to mount post to bowl and to base, or feet to base, as they were either not included or fell out during shipment.
(Factory) packaging is completely inadequate, given product's weight. Items are wrapped in bubble pack and placed loosely in a weak cardboard box, with a token sheet of styrofoam between base and bowl. Box arrived punctured and ripped open. I was amazed any of the small items - birds, feet - were still there. Paint was chipped away on multiple components, including steel ones, which'll require touch-up in order to avoid rust. Post's top mounting holes already had rust. Fortunately, nothing was bent or broken.
Manufacturer should improve packaging and raise price to cover additional cost. Other Astonica products that I've bought - dragonfly and butterfly ornaments - were adequately packed, albeit much lighter.
