5.0 out of 5 stars Big Hugs for Baby Bear, November 23, 2013
This review is from: Baby Bear Counts One (Hardcover)
The adorable Baby Bear is back, and this time he's mastering counting. More than a simple counting book, Baby Bear Counts One shows the forest preparing for winter. Young children will not only learn to count along with Baby Bear, but they'll also learn about the sights and sounds of autumn, while enjoying the lyrical language of this rhythmic text. Illustrated with gorgeous lino cut illustrations in lovely fall colors, this book is sure to delight children and adults alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, November 23, 2013
A cute, easy-to-read story for little ones who can't wait for the holidays. The minimalist art, simple lines, and lots of white space make for an engaging book. And children will laugh at the surprise ending.

This book definitely got "under my skin." Eryn, a wolven, gets sent to the isolated town of Redgrave to keep her safe from paranormal activity. Little does she know she's stumbled into a hotbed of paranorm wars for the last unclaimed territory in the North. Eryn gets caught in the middle, trying to keep her true identity hidden from paranorm hunters and other paranorms who'd love to destroy her. Who can she trust in this crazy, mixed-up town where nothing is as it seems? Add in a love triangle, and you have the ingredients for a page-turning thriller. Can she even trust the guys she loves?

The author is from Canada, and says she lives in a town like Redgrave. Makes you wonder how much of the story is real. Eh?

Love the cover of this e-book edition, but the book's also out in paperback with a totally different cover--Under My Skin. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crime Busters Turned Environmentalists, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Stakeout (Paperback)
Great combination of an environmental theme with a strongly plotted mystery. Author Bonnie J. Doerr certainly knows her setting -- the Florida Keys. It comes alive on the pages. Her characters -- a group of teens concerned with saving endangered sea turtles -- were believable as they plunged into danger to save the eggs from poachers. The story kept me enthralled all the way through. I'll definitely be reading other novels by this writer. Like her mystery, Island Sting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Anthology, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Spirited (Kindle Edition)
What an impressive collection of stories! I bought it because I'm a fan of several of these authors, figuring the other stories would be filler. All I can say is WOW! I'm not sure I can even choose a favorite. It's a nice eclectic group of fun-to-read ghost stories. Some are scarier than others, but all of them were enjoyable reads. I now have some new authors on my radar that I can't wait to read more from.

The book started off with a great steampunk story about a female ghosthunter / necromancer. I read that in the "Look Inside" and was hooked. I hope the author writes more about Amelia Strangeways; she's my kind of gal. SPIRITED ended with romantic fable set in the afterworld. With its beautiful setting and lyrical prose, "The Story of Late" brought the book to the perfect close. In between there were stories set during the Crusades, in Salem during the witch hunts, and in a haunted castle. Contemporary stories of lost love, making friends, and attending proms (all with ghosts, of course) filled the middle of the book--along with a trip to Norway and a scary Viking dude. The end of the book had some cool futuristic stories. A spaceship and a gamer's world (with some amazing augmented reality--3D pics that pop off the page) rounded out the selections.

A collection well-worth picking up especially as all proceeds go to benefit literacy.
