2.0 out of 5 stars Brenda Leigh is a pretty, little donut filled with poison, April 26, 2013
Brenda Leigh Johnson is one of the most objectionable female characters I've seen in a long time. She seems like a "strong woman," but in actuality is just cruel, manipulative and selfish. Having this kind of female character on television has a negative impact on society because it implies that being a strong woman means being crappy to men.

No thank you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice change from the rom-coms, March 24, 2013
This is quietly entertaining mind popcorn. The nicest thing about it is that it shows that McConaughey is willing to take some risks with his image and career. Instead of close-ups of his 6-pack abs, there are close-ups of every line and wrinkle on his face. Wow. In the wrong light, even the beautiful look lousy.

It's an interesting plot, nice supporting characters but nothing that I won't forget by next week.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too predictable, February 5, 2013
I've watched 3 episodes and can feel some of the storylines a mile away. Just wait until they reveal that the young FBI agent is a follower. Couldn't see that one coming.

This is just more romanticizing death and gore, elevating the serial killer as a genius. I can't imagine a plot twist that would be engaging enough to "follow" this program through 12 more episodes.

Even the marvelous Kevin Bacon can't save the show. I wish he could because it's been too long since we've seen him on the screen. This role is too one dimensional for him. There's no emotional rangei in the role. All he gets to do is grimace his way through the episodes as the tortured hero. Snore.

5.0 out of 5 stars how to love sock knitting if you hated it before", January 5, 2013
I could write epic love poems about how awesome this book is. I took a class on how to knit socks but hated it. It mystified me that so many knitters talk about how great socks are as a fast, easy project.

Then, I met Ann's book.

She liberated me from the idea that I had to knit socks with tiny little yarn on fussy little needles.

With the help of Ann's book, I've knocked out a pair of socks ON MY OWN using chunky yarn on size 8 needles. This allowed me to master how to knit each part of the sock. It's sort of how kids use big red pencils and lined papers when they're learning to write.

Even more, it showed common problems, like laddering, and how to fix them.

My second sock is coming off the needles tonight. In truth, they'll be slippers because they're too fat for shoes. But they're AWEDOME and i'm proud.

What's even more awesome, is that I can't wait too start my next pair on size 4/5 needles!!!!!

BUY THIS BOOK NOW!

3.0 out of 5 stars Need to find the fun, November 4, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It seems like the writers @ USANetwork tried to make their awesome shows really depressing. The fun and capable Annie is gone and all we've got is angry, vigilante Annie. They lamely dredge up one of Auggie's past lovers to keep the will they / won't they tension going, but, in the process, they're killing the heart of the show.

Everyone seems angry at everyone else. Not escapist fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would have been a nice season finale, September 12, 2012

I'm sorry to see the romance story arc with Simon end but hoping we've seen the start of a new one. Also does a good job of creating a new super villian for the CIA to track down.

The story was improved by having it produced as dream sequences interspersed with "reality" sequences.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh - Off the rails, July 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The thrill is gone. No chemistry. No tension. The show is snoozable because it's predictable. There's no good situational tension--will they catch the bad guy? Of course. Will Fiona's life be threatened in prison? Of course. Because the writers are covering two "A" storylines, there's little room for humor or playing on the relationships we've come to love over the past 5 years. There's not even the decent presence of a villan to hate.

Car chases without decent explosions - yawn

Madeline as an ineffectual delivery girl? bleah (In season 5, Madeline would have figured out a clever way to get the package away from the creep and get it to Fiona on her own.)

Sam without mojitos and snappy observations - vanilla

Michael without a cool cover story - why bother?

Fiona without killer shoes, sexy clothes, and C4 - not happenin'

3.0 out of 5 stars Jumped the shark, June 29, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What I loved about Burn Notice is that it was a fun, action-packed hour with pretty, middle-aged people and just a pinch of drama. Now,the show is just dreary. With Fiona confined, there's only gun play, no explosions or car chases, no derisive banter between Fiona and Sam. Without those things, the show feels flat. Jesse is foxy, but the reason for tuning into the show--the tension and friendship between the 3 principals--just isn't there. The scene where Michael visits Fiona in prison is touching, but not enough to make up for the other 38 minutes of meh.

The writers need to find the fun again. If the season arc is "will they spring Fiona from prison," I am done.

Your 100 Day Prayer: The Transforming Power of Actively Waiting on God
Your 100 Day Prayer: The Transforming Power of Actively Waiting on God
by John I. Snyder
Edition: Paperback
Price: $12.70
75 used & new from $0.01

4.0 out of 5 stars A different take on prayer, February 25, 2012
Unlike other books on prayer, Your 100 Day Prayer places less emphasis on the content of prayer and more on the process of consistent prayer. It encourages the Christian to spend just a few moments a day, every day, for 100 days consistently and intentionally praying about the same issue. This process is transformative in shifting the focus from the immediate to the eternal perspective. It's a great lesson in learning to wait...wait...wait for the answer.

The book is structured like a devotional journal; therefore, some readers may prefer a hardcopy book that can be written in rather than an eBook. Each day's lesson consists of a scripture, a devotional reading and a jumping off point for prayer.

The scriptures and devotional shine different perspectives on the issue being prayed for. It's these different perspectives, together with the consistency of returning to prayer again and again that begins to reshape the content and process of the prayers. In the journal area, the reader can reflect each day on his/her progress.

The one thing I wish I'd taken onboard earlier, is the author's suggestion to use it together with a group of other people as it's "hard to keep on praying by ourselves for something every day for any length of time."

Your 100 Day Prayer was provided to me as an advanced reading copy by BookSneeze.

1.0 out of 5 stars One week in and it won't boot up, November 25, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For the first week, I loved my Kindle. I downloaded music, apps, movies. I input my calendar and to do list. Today, one week later, it doesn't boot up. I plug in the battery charger and NOTHING. Big, giant bummer.
