Mobile for Good: A How-To Fundraising Guide for Nonprofits
Mobile for Good: A How-To Fundraising Guide for Nonprofits
by Heather Mansfield
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $23.24
41 used & new from $19.24

5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendously generous, wise book from someone who "gets it", March 20, 2014
As a marketing author myself, every time I share ideas, invariably someone says, "And that would work really well for non-profits, too!" Well, Heather Mansfield has written the definitive 1-2 punch with "Social Media for Good" and "Mobile for Good" that shows non-profit leaders how to get a handle on social media - and all marketing, really - to expand their influence, impact, and income.

Everything is laid out, step by step and piece by piece. Unlike so many social media AND mobile marketing books, THIS book is great because nothing is assumed and nothing is left out.

A systematic approach to smarter marketing for mission-driven organizations. And shhhh... a lot of these ideas would be devastatingly effective in the for-profit world, too.

Super well done!

If you're a marketer, entrepreneur, small or micro-business owner, you really can't go wrong following Dan Kennedy's advice. Everything is laid out in simple, powerful bite-size chunks.

This book even contains some "up-to-the-minute" 2014 bells and whistles. The solid marketing and selling principles in this book will open your eyes and fill your bank account because those are evergreen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, powerful marketing concepts in easy to read package, February 5, 2014

In other words, basic blocking and tackling wins most games. This is exactly what Don provides in this great book. What to say and how to say it - what to do and how to do it. Broken down into easy to follow steps that will improve your results and help you make dramatically more sales.

Invest in reading it, USING these ideas, and profiting from the results. Great book.

The Entrepreneurs: Success and Sacrifice
The Entrepreneurs: Success and Sacrifice
by Kip Marlow
Edition: Paperback
Price: $12.65
18 used & new from $10.44

5.0 out of 5 stars Entrepreneurial success stories - raw, true, and from the trenches, January 23, 2014
Wow - what a great book! In this compact volume - clearly a labor of love - Kip Marlow weaves entrepreneurial success stories from a wide variety of business owners.

The interviews and profiles are sharp, well-written, and loaded with real-life lessons.

Each chapter is a snapshot of a successful entrepreneur and unlike most business books that portray these folks as infallible heroes, this book gets to the real heart of entrepreneurship - the uncertainty, the fears, the doubts, the surprises, the pivots and twists and turns.

The book demonstrates that above all, entrepreneurship is about tenacity and being willing to fail, stumble, learn, re-learn, and unlearn along the winding road to success.

This is a book you'll want to come back to over and over again as your own business adventures evolve and progress. It's almost as valuable as having a dozen smart entrepreneurs in your back pocket giving you guidance and advice on demand. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to start a business and any entrepreneur who wants to grow their business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - actionable short bites with profound impact, January 17, 2014
I love this book. Communications breakdowns are the cause of so many corporate and entrepreneurial headaches. Whether you're dealing with your boss, a colleague, your team, a customer, prospect, partner, fellow board member... it's almost always what you say and how you say it that makes ALL the difference.

Donny Ebenstein gives you a thoroughly enjoyable and eminently actionable guide to repair communication breakdowns - and even better, avoid them in the first place!

I've already recommended this book to a team that his having one childish drama after the other because of precisely the issues that Donny so skillfully defuses in these pages!!

Seriously - if your business and personal success hinges on getting other people to do what you want (hint: it does!!) then you need this book's wise advice right by your side.

You'll be amazed at how much more you get done once you defuse the drama, egos, and turf wars. Great book on a tough subject. Buy it - or better yet, buy copies for your whole team.

Let It Burn: MOVE, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the Confrontation that Changed a City
Let It Burn: MOVE, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the Confrontation that Changed a City
by Michael Boyette
Edition: Paperback
Price: $16.27
18 used & new from $16.25

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and compelling, December 24, 2013
Let It Burn is a powerful and compelling account of the confrontation between the Philadelphia Police Department and the MOVE organization. The authors use a fast-moving and detailed narrative non-fiction style that makes you feel like you're reliving the events, the characters, and the emotions surrounding May 13, 1985.

As someone who ordinarily doesn't go for these kinds of books, I found reading Boyette's work absorbing and fascinating. Like watching a documentary unfold from different perspectives, each new twist and revelation kept me turning page after page.

Regardless of your politics (left, right, middle, blue, red, purple), this book is probably the closest we'll ever come to knowing some of the details of what happened, what people were thinking and feeling, and the motivations and decisions that led to such a tragic outcome for all. But at least after reading this book, you'll come away wiser and more informed - not only about race relations in the City of Philadelphia during the 1980's - but much more broadly about people, politics, and psychology. Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on premium pricing as a marketing tactic AND a business strategy, December 1, 2013
If I tell my own marketing mentor clients three things, those three things are...

1. Premium pricing

2. Premium pricing

3. Premium pricing

...and this is the best book I've seen that lays out the detailed strategies, tactics, and methodology to make it happen in YOUR small business - not someday, but right now. I disagree with the other reviewers who say the ideas here are "too basic" - they are NOT basic, nor are they easy.

What they ARE is simple - powerful - smart - and effective. It takes heart, smarts, and guts to charge what you're worth, especially if you're a professional service firm or independent professional.

This smart books walks you though not only the why and the what - but the how and the payoff. Read this book - implement its advice - and prosper. Highly recommended!
