5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting..Credible..Insightful...Perception Changing, April 24, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Presidents Club is a must read for anyone that is truly interested in the fine line that exists with current Presidents and their successors. It opens the chapters of history from a perspective that is seldom seen by the general public.

Exciting -- The book is an easy read that keeps the reader engaged as the authors tell the narrative of Presidential interaction. From Hoover to Obama the dynamics are shaped by the most powerful men in the world. From ego's to self-empathy the authors tell the real life history of how the club has grown and shrunk over the last 50 years.

Credible - Well sourced and full of citing the authors took the job seriously and gave readers insights only found by scouring thousands and thousands of pages of Presidential material

Insightful - Discover how Hoover was a tremendous help at the end of WWII. Put yourself in President Reagan's post-presidential office as he teaches another President how to salute.

Perception Changing - The book opened this readers eyes to the decisions that Presidents have to make. Foreign Policy rules the land and I would bet each of us are hard pressed to ever look at our leaders through the same lens as we did before reading this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Depends on what you want, April 12, 2012
My wife bought me my Kindle Fire for Christmas after debating whether or not to surprise me with it or a IPad. First and foremost, those purchasing this device should not expect the IPad experience. They are not even in the same league. (Sorry Amazon - they just aren't). With the being said it is a great product for basic usage.

Internet Access - The Kindle Fire works well and the speed is decent. I have been able to access almost any news or sports site that I generally visit online. I do LOVE the WSJ app and reading the morning paper on my Fire.

Apps - Typical Android apps. The more you have the slower the Fire runs. Also Android offers a huge selection but it pales in comparison to Apple. If you use an Iphone you will be disappointed.

Reading - This is were the Fire sets itself apart. I love to read and absolutely love the back lighting of the text. Easy to read in all circumstances. Five Stars here

Overall - It truly depends on what you want to use the Fire for. If you an looking for a cheap IPad you won't find it with a Fire. If you are looking for a great reader that also allows you a few extra's you will not be disappointed.

Personally - I love Amazon products and the easy of use. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an excellent reader but be warned it is not a less expensive IPad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was it an earthquake?, April 11, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Located in the underbelly of American government lay secrets that the American people most likely do not want to know. Memorial Day takes the reader on a journey inside the war on terror. Vince Flynn builds a story that is so realistic, it forces the reader to ask themselves what is really transpiring in the world around us.

Mitch Rapp once again is the center point of the book. He is on mission to save thousands of Americans from the devastating ramifications of a nuclear explosion. The story is vivid and real, portrayed through fictional characters the places and possibilities are real. From Afghanistan to the sordid nuclear waste fields in the old USSR, Flynn is able to paint a picture that will keep us on our toes. He is also able to bring to life the politics that play into the every day decisions are elected leaders face. Is re-election and a new Vice President truly happening for the reasons that the media is telling us? Is the upcoming Deputy AG one of the countries brightest or did she sleep her way into power? Mitch Rapp hates the drama, he hates the politics but more importantly he wants what terrorists want to do to our country.

This book will keep you engaged, you will skip dinner to read just a couple more pages and before you realize you will be hooked. You will being asking yourself was that an earthquake or was it the lifesaving work of a real Mitch Rapp!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitch Rapp is a mans man!, April 11, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am writing this review several months after reading the book, but I can attest that it was another work of brilliance from Vince Flynn. The ever steady, ever vigilant Mitch Rapp finds himself attempting to disrupt the plans of terrorists who are hell bent on destroying the peoples house. The White House is at the center of this plot and Flynn is able to give us mind boggling details of what the inside looks like, how it was penetrated and how it has been built to withstand even the most evil of minds. Flynn once again writes with clarity and flamboyance to bring readers inside, to make them feel as if they are his wing man in the fight against terror. Like the other Flynn books I have read this book is nearly impossible to put down. I would find it hard to believe that anyone would not enjoy this exciting book.

Imagine traveling back in time to place where America was yet to be consumed with regulations and overbearing law enforcement agencies. Now imagine you had the smarts and the skill to fool the people around you. Congratulations...Meet Titanic Thompson. The book is a page turner from history. From throwing fruit over buildings to beating the best golfers at their game, Titanic took the cake. I would encourage readers to get lost in the pages and allow themselves to ride along this mans amazing journey. The ups, the downs and the twists and turns will not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Youth Baseball Coaches, April 11, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book because I was asked to coach my step-sons youth rec league baseball team. From the onset, the Ripken brothers laid strong foundation for developing a love of the game in youngsters. Having only played the game in little league (sat the bench), it instilled confidence in my ability to teach the basic fundamentals of the game. It also provided me with the tools to instill the love of the game in others. From the mental aspect to the physical aspect the Ripkens have written a book that is a must read. The book includes details of all the necessities for coaching youth baseball. From practice plans, times, and instructional drills, this book will give you a great start. Additionally each section give the reader pointers as to what to look for when doing each drill. The book takes the inexperienced and allows them the ability to enjoy coaching, to see baseball in a new light and to a reignite a passion for the games of baseball.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was there, December 7, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Well I wasn't really there, in fact I was not even a figment of my parents imagination during game six, but Mark Frost allowed this life long Reds fan to re-live the past. Written with a great understanding of the game of baseball, Frost takes readers on the inside. From the life of Louis Tenant to the broadcast booth of Marty, those of who couldn't have been at the game, now know. We can now say we get it, we understand how great game 6 was.

Frost packs the pages full of insight and thought process to allow the reader to think like Sparky or to feel the emotion of the Tenant family. Wonderfully written and easily read this book is a must read for all of those who wish they would have been at Fenway for game six of the 1975 World Series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Full of Stories, December 3, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a light read that will keep you laughing. From his days as a child and into life as an adult, Mr. Wendt recounts with honesty and humor his love for barley, hops and water and people. The next best thing to this book would be sitting down and slinging back a cold one with George himself.
