5.0 out of 5 stars Pantech Burst, September 17, 2013
I have owned this phone for about 8 months and I couldn't be happier. My phone was bought used, in like new condition, and unlocked. The camera is the one downside, it works great outside but is not real good in low light situations. The processor is fast and smooth and the display is bright and clear. The 4g works well with AT&T reseller services. I strongly advise against using this phone with AT&T as they do not allow access to 4g, yet allow resellers of their service to use 4g. Go figure. When installing apps make sure to switch them over to Internal Media Storage because they automatically install to system storage, RAM. The phone has 1gb of RAM but only about 800mb is available, while it has 16gb of system storage. As for battery life and charge times I was disappointed when I first received this phone. However, I went to an auction site and purchased a new Pantech battery and a new Pantech charger. The difference was amazing. My phone charges in less than 3 hours and holds a charge for twice as long as it originally did. I can't guarantee this will be the case for you but it really worked for me. Battery life in any smart phone is not great but at least now I can go all day on a charge. I believe some phones are shipped with old batteries or there was a bad batch. For anyone willing to root this phone it offers tremendous capabilities once you get rid of all the AT&T bloat ware. To summarize I paid $90 for the phone, battery and charger and it will compete with $300+ phones and win in many categories. After 8 months and a few drops this phone still works like new and offers a fast processor and lots of room for apps without going to an microSD card which is slower than internal storage. There are newer and faster phones now available but if you want a decent smartphone that has plenty of capability and lacks only in the camera area this is a very good choice.

Gemini App Manager
Gemini App Manager

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good task manager, February 29, 2012

This review is from: Gemini App Manager (App)
This app is not just for rooted phones. If you install a new app that can be moved to your sd card it sends you a notification, which takes you right to the screen to move it. No app out right now can "kill" an app installed by your carrier without rooting your phone. What this app can do is "kill" any app that you install, plus it shows you how much ram every app you install is using. Knowing how much ram an app uses helps you determine which apps are slowing down your system and helps you decide whether that app is worth the resources it is taking up. Of course rooting your phone opens more areas for the task manager to help you but for the average user it is well worth installing this app just to help manage your apps with more knowledge as to what that app requires.

For those of you that have never used an app manager here is my list of what this app will do with a phone not rooted:
1. Sends a notification as soon as you install an app to send it to the sd card.
2. Gives you a list of running apps (only apps not installed by your carrier)
3. Shows you how much ram and memory each app is using
4. Allows you to "kill" apps by clicking a check box next to each app or kill all of them at once
5. Allows you to exempt certain apps that you don't want to kill (such as the clock or the Gemini app you're using)
6. Allows you to send each app or all apps to the sd card (for those notifications you ignored)
7. Based on apps you determine you no longer want it will uninstall any you put a check beside.
8. Allows you to move any app from the sd card back to the phone
9. Allows you to backup any app to the sd card

If you install this app I highly recommend you install the Gemini task killer widget. With the widget it checks your list of exemptions from the task manager and automatically shuts down all other apps without leaving your home screen (just touch the widget and BAM! you're done). You'll be surprised at first at how much ram is left running after using a few apps. It keeps your device humming along as long as you use the task manager to limit your apps to those that don't use up all your ram. Remember; if you're using a low to mid end device your ram and phone memory is very low and you need to be careful of which apps are worth the ram and memory use. I always double check Amazon apps that say they will run on my phone with the Market because the Market takes memory and ram usage more into account than Amazon. Also, some apps (Amazon and the Market to name 2) need to be forced close after use because they cannot be "killed" without a force close and they use quite a bit of resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for light construction projects, February 28, 2012

This review is from: Clinometer (App)
This is a perfect ap for doing light construction or double checking your contractor. Find the angle of stairs for installing railings or check the level of your stove, washing machine, etc. The only problem with this ap is it makes it a lot harder to tell your wife that its her cooking, not the oven out of level, when her cakes come out crooked. It's one of those aps you won't use every day but it will pay for itself the first time you need to know an angle or need to level an appliance. Sure there are much better professional tools that do the same thing, but even if you own them this is just too convenient not to have on your phone for 1 buck. By the way this ap is more than double the price at other ap stores.

Gemini Taskiller Widget

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely easy to clear your ram, February 27, 2012

If you have problems with your phone slowing down and don't want to constantly manually close running processes, this is the ap for you. At less then 5kb this little guy is simply click and done. Download program, Install widget on home screen, Click the little guy every now and than and that's it.
Update 3/1/2012; I forgot to mention you can also choose to use this app by simply shaking your phone, doesn't get any easier than that.

Where's My Water? Free
Where's My Water? Free
Price: $0.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Very large program, February 27, 2012
This review is from: Where's My Water? Free (App)
I didn't keep this ap because it was 32mb and almost 8mb after moving to sd card. This is way to large for all but the top of the line android phones or those willing to constantly add & remove aps from their phone. The paid version is so large the "market" store wouldn't let me download it even though Amazon will. File sizes should be listed with all aps so everyone knows how much of your resources its going to use up

This game looks like it was created for the younger crowd and maybe it was but I really like it. You not only have to determine which order to cut the ropes but at what angle the rope needs to be in when you cut it. A very fun and entertaining game.

This ap is the easiest way to clean up your ram. Install the small widget on your home screen and it shows your free ram and how many tasks are running. Click on the widget and hit optimize and BAM! you're done. Everything not needed is removed from the system ram and you're free to start filling the ram back up. Really simple and effective, my kind of ap.

Slots Royale - Slot Machines

2.0 out of 5 stars Hit ads constantly, February 26, 2012
This review is from: Slots Royale - Slot Machines (App)
This is a fun but limited game, my problem with it is the ad bar is just under the spin button causing you to hit it every once in awhile when you're not paying close attention. I know this is a free game but I doubt the ad bar location was an oversight, I'm sure the developer gets paid by the number of clicks. Other free games may locate their ad bars in locations making the game harder to concentrate on but putting it right under the spin button is very irritating and costly if you are on a 3G/4G limited plan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't move to sd card, February 26, 2012

This review is from: Crazy Casino (App)
I really didn't take the time to learn this game because it couldn't be moved to my sd card. I am using an LG Thrive with limited on-board memory so every kb matters. A game has no business residing in your phone memory. This is the first game that Gemini App Manager couldn't move to the sd card.

Sony BDP-S185 Blu-Ray Disc Player (2012 Model)
Sony BDP-S185 Blu-Ray Disc Player (2012 Model)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good blu ray/media player, December 28, 2011
First off this is a $70, Ethernet wired, blu ray player. It is not 3D and it is not a wireless network player. With that said, what it is, is a very good blu ray player with more online streaming content than any of its rivals in the below $100 price range. The cost of an added wireless dongle moves this player into a price range that it is not made to compete in.

As a blu ray player it has above average video quality and a simple remote. Advanced settings are done through an onscreen menu for both the blu ray player and the streaming media player. The remote also can be programed in one easy step to operate your TV's on/off, video input, and volume. The remote also allows a setting that turns off both the TV and the player at the same time. A button on the remote allows direct access to Netflix and Sony Entertainment Network.

There are 34 video channels and 7 music channels accessible for streaming. Some channels require going through the computer to activate service and Pay on Demand requires a credit card during registration. Many have a limited free trial to see which channels you prefer, however a credit card is required to activate the free trials so don't forget to cancel services you don't want before the trial ends. Crackle, a free classic movie channel, is available without registration. YouTube can be logged on directly from the TV, although not all content is available for streaming at this time. Note that a 5 digit password (numerical) is required to access paid programming, it serves to keep children and guests from running up your bill.

Here is the list of channels available: Sony Entertainment Network, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Vudu, NHL Vault, YouTube, blip.tv, Crackle, SnagFilms, Dr.Oz, Tara Stiles, Billabong, XOS College Sports, epi, Concierge, CinemaNow, Style.com, Sony Digital Concert Series, Inside Sony Pictures, Sony's Michael Jackson, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, SGNL by Sony, Dailymotion, uStudio, GolfLink.com, Livestrong.com, eHow.com, Flixster, Singing Fool, Podcasts, Terra TV; Sony's Music Unlimited, Slacker, Pandora, Berliner Philharmoniker, Lollapalooza Radio, NPR, Moshcam

For a wired internet, this Sony player offers a lot of variety for TV viewing not available on other units even at higher prices. This is not the fastest blu ray player or media player but it isn't the slowest either. Unlike some of the competition Sony backs this player with a one year warranty, NOT 90 days. For the price I don't believe any other player offers as much as this Sony.

As a footnote: Remember that internet speed effects this and all video streaming players. Regular DSL will struggle to stream video, You need at least 3MPS speed to get minimum video streaming, 10+ MPS is needed for HD. I am getting 15-20 MPS at the player which has allowed uninterrupted streaming of all content. Because this is a wired connection I am receiving the same MPS as my computer.

Update: 12/30/2011
Media players handle streaming video directly versus computers that handle packets of information and have storage. I would not recommend any brands lower tier media players to anyone using standard DSL. Unless you are right next to a main phone transfer station you will probably have problems streaming video. Check the manufacturers higher end units with on-board memory or upgrade your internet service. Keep in mind that even if you have 3-4MPS every thing connected to your router that is in use will lower your MPS speed at times causing your media player to drop below the minimum speed. This is also true of bottom tier cable because you are sharing the internet with other homes. My internet speed is about 24MPS but will drop as low as 8MPS during peak usage. Blame your internet provider not the media players, I have yet to see a company claim their media players will work below 3MPS. And the 3MPS is the lowest speed you receive, not the normal speed.
