4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, with a few annoying things, September 3, 2011
Well, this is a fun game. The timer on your missions makes you feel more intense. The graphics are superb. There is just so much to look at yet you are constantly rushed by the zombies around you. I mean, the game looks great and rewards exploration yet condones it simultaneously. I really wanted to enable a God Mode to just stop and stare at all the pretty textures.

With that being said, let me review this game. It is essentially a timed rescue mission during a zombie apocalypse. The characters have good voice acting and relatable personalities that one would expect to find. The weapon system is very creative; there are numerous items that you can combine together and are fun to utilize. Its story was captivating as well; how Chuck has to keep his daughter alive while proving his innocence. However the zombies were too weak to pose any sort of threat to you as long as you kept running. Later on they get stronger which made it more challenging but something should've been done to stimulate the amount of backtracking involved in this game. Rescue this character, then run back to the safehouse. The cinematics were incredibly crisp and I really liked the psychopath aspect as well as the large number of pretty girls. ;)

In conclusion, the game is fun to play and has plenty to offer but doesn't give you enough opportunity to explore it since you are restrained by time limits and infinite zombies. You never get a breather while playing, but maybe that's what the creators were aiming for. It was a unique and enjoyable experience for me. Time to go play overtime mode! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great potential but doesn't live up to the hype, September 3, 2011
This game has several good and bad points. I'll start with the good.

- Gameplay is varied since you can use stealth or combat to get past any situation.
- Augmentations allow for some unique abilities such as Typhoon, invisibility, or rewiring robots.
- Quests involve choices that allow you to tackle each situation as it fits your own morals.
- Score includes really atmospheric music. You should get the soundtrack by Michael McCann.
- Thought-provoking themes such as the effects of augmentation on society and a diverse realm of human natures portrayed.

- Reused environments mainly involve offices, vents, and corridors throughout. You will get bored of seeing and doing the same stuff over and over.
- There are a shortage of useful upgrades to spend praxis points on; by the endgame you will have maxed out everything, so every player will have the same abilities.
- Graphics are lackluster. The animation and color of models look rather stiff and dull.
- Illusion of choice. No matter what moral paths you took earlier, the end result will still be the same to move the story along a predetermined path.
- Weak AI. They don't even know how to move forward when flushing you out with grenades or give cover fire while flanking your position. Instead they just come at you one by one or pop out from cover predictably, exposing their heads.

- Worth a single playthrough. Despite what others say about this game, I don't plan on replaying. The hacking computer and sneaking around routine combine with weak AI bores me. Half-life 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas had good AI, and they were made about 5 years ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing action, acceptable story, August 24, 2011
This review is from: Bulletstorm - PC (DVD-ROM)
I personally found the game fun. The amazing variety of weapons at your disposal allowed you to kill enemies in creative ways. It's satisfying to use the leash while conserving ammo. I would say the gameplay is reminiscent of the Serious Sam titles mixed with the slow-mo ability of FEAR. The locales are divided between tropical and industrial, and they look great. Since I played on a small laptop I expect it to be even more beautiful on a bigger monitor. The difficulty level isn't high (I beat it on Hard mode in 3 days) since you always have at least one companion during your fights. The enemies are very diverse but don't seem to pose much of a threat since you are such a killing machine (DEAD ECHO). The dialogue at times can be witty but mostly fail to incite laughter with its bad jokes; although the voice acting itself is quite good. I liked the character designs because they seemed realistic. Bulletstorm is a game that you'll have fun playing on your first run through but will not beg for a second.

A few minor flaws that I noticed while playing is that the richness of skill points available allow you to max out upgrades on basically all weapons so there isn't much challenge in what to upgrade. Also, I feel that the leash is somewhat overpowered. You can easily pop out from behind cover to leash an enemy one by one until the entire group is gone. One last thing is that the companion should not be invulnerable. He/she never gets hurt enough to die in combat, which really detracts from the excitement of intense firefights.

Overall, a decent game if you like constant action and creative ways to frag.

The PS3 does its job well. The controller's battery lasts about 8 hours on a full charge. Console collects dust easily, Durable system that does not overheat. Yeah, with so many titles and more coming out at this price the PS3's features are worth it. You should buy one!

4.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, February 25, 2011
Amnesia: The Dark Descent review (PC)
Story - You are Daniel, a person who has just awoken with a bad case of amnesia. You do not recall your identity and the surroundings are a foreboding castle. Through manuscripts/diaries you eventually piece together enough information to discover what is going on. There is not much to say without spoiling the surprise besides the fact that you are alone and confused in a scary place.
Gameplay - As the player you can interact with environmental objects in order to proceed to the next area or solve puzzles. There is unfortunately no combat at all. Whenever you encounter a monster you can only choose to run or to hide. Most of the levels are dark and in order to see where you're going candles or a lantern need to be lit. There is also the insanity feature whereas being around monsters/darkness for too long will cause disorientation that can be remedied by staying near light. Puzzles are never too hard that you need to consult a walkthrough.
Graphics - Areas are detailed and offer a Lovecraftian atmosphere. There is a lot of thought put into making the place appear uninviting such as jail cells, random gusts of wind, corpses, cobwebs and more. Textures and models are decentlt rendered, creating a haunting atmosphere.
Sound - The audio part of this game is mainly ambient sounds from the environment and dialogue from reading diaries. These are both produced well as you can sometimes really sense what it is like to be in one of their dark rooms. Creaking doors, monsters snarling, victim screams and machinery are what you can expect most of the time.
Verdict - Overall this game is what it set out to be, and that is a creepy little adventure that explores what darkness can do to your mind. However the lack of combat mechanics really adds to frustration when you have to constantly light up areas to see anything without going insane. The story is original and there are times where you will feel either genuinely disturbed or panicked so that is a plus. If you are looking for a new type of scare and do not mind running for your life throughout the game, then check this one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauitful adventure title, November 9, 2010
This is my favorite game on the PS2 system. The characters are believable, story is original, graphics are decent, gameplay is engaging. This is a perfect game. Not to mention the replay value is high as well. You can succeed/fail at certain sequences or take alternate dialogue choices that affect the ending. The atmosphere of this game is fascinating. Remember the Resident Evil series 1-3? The atmosphere of Indigo Prophecy is as immersive if not more so. I was blown away by the gameplay style where things play out like a cinematic movie. As you play this game, you will want to find out what is really going on and why the main character murdered somebody. This is basically an adventure game with an element of mystery added to it. There is no other game like it, except for Heavy Rain, which I also played and wrote a review for. The predecessor is much better because it does not feel rushed or scripted like Heavy Rain. If you haven't played this yet, do yourself a favor and buy it now! I promise you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not that much, October 20, 2010
I have been waiting for this game's release since it's announcement after finishing Indigo Prophecy (3 years). Since I loved Indigo, I expected Heavy Rain to be just as much fun if not more so. IMO, the former was more entertaining due to the atmosphere it evokes in the player. The story was captivating just like Silent Hill 4: The Room, where you felt the suspense in every act. However, Heavy Rain, although it has good atmosphere, there is too much rain used in the background. It's as if there is nothing else the player wants to see. I would have enjoyed seeing a wider variety of environments rather than going from one dark, rain place to the next. The ending also made no sense to me. It felt like the finale was rushed to complete the project.

Controls are for the most part easy; however there are a few motion ones that are hard to pull off. You will get different combos of buttons to press depending on the difficulty level you selected. There are a total of 4 playable characters, but they somehow do not seem to weave together with each other. You do not see their interactions affecting each other in any way, save for the romantic relationship that you can develop between Ethan and Madison. Out of 6 possible relationships that could have been presented, there is only one. Quantic Dreams utilized a system where your choices determine what plays out afterwards, in a sort of choose-your-own-adventure style. However it could benefit from the dynamic environment employed in Silent Hill 4 or Resident Evil: Code Veronica where your own choices can be readily seen by other characters so you will feel more drawn into its world.

Regardless of its minor flaws, Heavy Rain still brings an original story to gamers. The "how far will you go for love?" theme is thought-provoking at least, although some of the situations depicted are quite unrealistic (you'll see what I mean). This is a fine game on its own but not anything I would want to replay because the only thing that would change on a second run will be a different ending. The ride is enjoyable and is over before you know it. Heavy Rain is like eating candy; an enjoyable yet not memorable experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome action film!, October 20, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Jean Reno and Natalie Portman are impeccable on screen. Even though I've already seen the movie online I decided to purchase a blu-ray version to fully enjoy this masterpiece. The story follows a hitman who takes in an orphan after her family is killed by corrupt policemen. The action is very exciting since Jean can take down so many enemies with ease, including SWAT members. This film is a classic and should be a part of any action fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest tactical shooters ever made, October 20, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I own both Vegas 1 and 2. Before I even finished playing the first I already knew that I wanted to play its sequel. The gameplay is amazing if you are into tactical shooters. Don't expect to just run in and shoot down all your enemies. If you do that, you'll have to reload checkpoints often. In this game, you must choose your equipment carefully and assign commands to your teammates to clear the area. Guns and clothing used are realistic models of the actual thing. If you liked the SWAT series you will love Rainbow Six Vegas. This is a more mature shooter compared to games like Halo and Call of Duty since the damage is realistic and you have to plan your approach for each situation. You cannot simply rely on your reflexes although that also comes in handy. I especially like the leveling up system where you get to unlock new items for online play. The story is good if you understand it, despite what others say. Graphics are quite good although they are not eye-popping. All in all a great game for those who enjoy this genre!
