5.0 out of 5 stars Old Jokes that still are funny, April 18, 2014
It is Passover season again.... I am eating leftover kiska for breakfast...and choking due to laughing so hard at those old jokes. A friend gave me a copy of this audio book and I must send him a note of thanks...either that or my medical bill for laughing too hard.

San Hoffman hosts and does introductions of these people. The problem with Hoffman is his narration is hit and miss. His research opennings on his chapters sometime slows down the jokes

Having these over sixty year olds telling jokes. Some of these jokes and stories are older than the hills , BUT they are still funny! If you are looking for politically correct humor, this aint it! Having many of the people telling these stories and jokes you will laugh. These non professional narrator are great

so if you want a great laughs, this is a great audio to just enjoy and have fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars West puts a spin on the western, April 18, 2014
I received a copy of the audio book of Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West and did not know what to expect. This audio production is a novelization of a movie (to be release at the end of May 2014). Now many know MacFarlrlane as the creator and driving force behind the TV series Family Guy and the movie Ted, So I had an idea what may happen...I was wrong

Westerns, other than Mel Brooks's classic Blazing Saddles, does not lean itself well to humorous satire. Well MacFarlane text seems to pokes fingers in eyes of the western genre..and it works. The different between Saddles of this western is there are a few pop references. One of my favorites exception is is When Albert speaking Cherokee, He says "Mi La Ku Nis, Mi La Ku Nis", which translate to "fine, fine". Mila Kunis is the actress who costars in Ted, the voice of Meg on Family Guy, and good friend of the writer and director, Seth McFarlane.. Other than that, the satire comes from the characters and the situations and it works...MacFarland's first novel in my book is hit

This story of Albert Stark, a sheep farmer, who gets depressed about everything in his life and things around him. He lives with his parents, who do not seem to like him. The girl he loves left him for the most insufferable man in town. Cattlemen shoot him because of his sheep herding, the western doctor is little more than a quack. He has western angst about everything...and above all he is a coward

He meets the mysterious Anna, a beautiful gunslinger, who is tough for both of them. However, Anna is married to Clinch, the meanest outlaw in the west. Well trouble ensues in spades for cowardly Albert

Jonathan Frakes, Riker from Star Trek The Next Generation, narrates this audio presentation. He does a nice job of vocal shading in the men's parts. However, he seems to make many seem too similar in vocal range though. The problem I have is his trying to narrate female roles, they sound more male than the men's vocals. Also, His narration is sometimes too loud for an audio book, almost yelling in some spots. On the whole, he does a decent job. he seemed to have fun doing this production.

.On a personal note, I enjoyed the directing Mr Frakes has done on the show Leverage and last year Sci-Fic theme Castle episode..if there is EVER a Leverage audiobook (Like the Keith DeCandido Leverage novel ), I would hope he would be narrating it

The director of this production is Jessica Kaye. I must say BRAVO to her. This does not come off like most celebrity narrated audio productions of late. It is a good piece of audio work

4.0 out of 5 stars too thin to explain the subject matter, April 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This ebook is a great primer to start breaking the procranstination bug. The problem I has with this book is it isless than 70 pages long. In the book, the first third of this thin volume is about laziness. the other two thirds is practical advice. However It does not address the subject of procrastination head on. The advise is sound. But it seem incomplete as a self help book. Mr McDowell may wish to release a fleshed out version of this book with more practocal advice and more information

In plain english, it is a good idea for a book. IT IS A USEFUL VOLUME to start showcasing the problem. However, in say that, also in hindsight and understanding the subject matter, it needs to address more of the direct causes of why we procrastinate, solutions to combat it and direct effects to handle this issue..It is a good primer, but like most primers, it needs to be fleshed out more for a better understanding of the subject matter

If you want an overview of this issue, I suggest get this primer as am starter book until a second volume or a fleshed out revised edition is done by the author. He does making this an interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvel Super Specials reprinted, April 9, 2014
One of the choice comics in my collection is the two Super Specials that Marvel comic did in comic form in 1977 and 1979. This wasn't a celebrity comic book like Pinky Lee, Pat Boone, Jerry Lewis or Bob Hope, that was done for laughs or teen thrills. The band was made into real life, card carrying superheroes. In the first book, the band battle supervillian DR DOOM..it does not get better than that. It is the mysterous power of KISS that drawn us in and the mythos that will keep you drawn in

In the back of this graphic novel reprint you get the same back story as you got in the first special. The first Super Special where KISS blood was mixed with the inks. This slicker version carry the same weight, however not the same blood. The slicker stock is better than the bond stock that was used in the first book. The second book had a similar slickness feel as this graphic novel

On Ebay, the original KISS number one goes anywhere from $495 to $175, that great..however the story is also important. the first book was written by the talented Steve Gerber (from Howard the Duck fame) and art by John Buscema (Conan). This is what good comic storytelling is all about. Also it used many Marval characters cameos to savor over.

The second KISS special is a good story. It did not have the Gerber magic as the first book did. Ralph Macchio with art by John Romita jr is nice, but not MARVELous, but it missed the mark the first book carried. It also did not have any Marvel character cameos. It is great to enjoy.

So my suggestion is simple.... Rock & Roll all night, party every day..... and get this reprint colllection

5.0 out of 5 stars A Justice League of Dark and supernatural Heroes, April 7, 2014
It is not new for either DC nor Marvel comics to combine a group of heroes into a team.Like the Avengers or The Justice League to show the idea in effect. However You only have to look at odd pairs like the Suicide Squad (DC), Mighty Crusanders (Archie comic), The Society of Suoer Villians (DC), The Defenders (Marvel), Batman and The Outsiders (DC), The Losers (a DC comic war title)(DC) or League of Monsters with Ghost Rider & The Punisher (Marvel)..However this dark team seem to meld so well.

The New 52 line that DC comics has done ,has been hit or miss for me. Some of the revamping works, others do not. in my book, due to the crispness of the writing and simple well drawn art, This title is a major hit. Combining such characters as Shade the Changing Man, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Zatanna, Mindwarp and John Constantine in a warp little team is something to show interest.

Since I did not the comic monthly, this title is an interesting pair of horror title sheroes. It focus more of the character ability to move this story. The story makes for good reading, a Supernature force that the SUPERHEROES (Superman,Wonder Woman and Batman) cant handle..and how this force of misfit heroes work as a team. The story line for these first six issues are good. Worth your time and money. I have not read volume two graphic novel , so I cannot judge where they will take this series.

I would love to see volume two and see what other DC non super heroes like Brother Power The Geek, Space aged Jonah Hex, Swamp Thing, Phantom Stanger, The Question ,the Doom Patrol and many many others could add to the mix and scope of this book series

4.0 out of 5 stars I Believe it, April 4, 2014
Mel Tillis is usually known for his county music. This album is a departure for him and the audience.

He tells stories and bad jokes, with ease. Moreover with out his stuutering as he is known for and has showcased in filmslike Hooper and Cannonball run.

This recording seem to be culled from his alive Branson Nightclub preformances. You hear the audience reaction and they seem to enjoy his cute asides and bad jokes

I will say this, this project works for him as well as a county singer. I would love another collection of his stories.Maybe he can tell stories of Burt Reynolds and others. I would not mind hearing that

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Beauty Aides, March 30, 2014
I just had Deb Julienne as one of my guests on my ANYTHING GOES blog talk radio show on March 28, 2014--I told her on air, I want to read this book. From her recanting of what this book is, It seemed a light airy novel I could enjoy. Plus she and Lisa Alber were great guests that night, we all seem to have so much fun. . You should check out the archieve of the show on the blog talk site

So after the show, Deb sent me an email copy of this book. Weird thing, as soon as she sent me the email copy, I read it. Something I don't usually do..even for authors I know.

Well my first judgement of the book , when she spoke about it on my radio show, was totally spot on. She delivered a romantic novel that made me laugh.

This novel is a nod to Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors with lovers and twin brothers. It enchanted me. This novel was also funny as had one foot based in being in reality. It has humor, the comedy of the situation came out from his plotting. This is something you don't always get in a romantic novel.

The one amazing thing It did not try for in this book was the formula twin brother/sister crap that you see so much in sitcoms (ala Sister Sister, Patty Duke show, or the Disney Channel's new hit Liv and Maddie). Ms Julienne crafted a story I truely loved and that worked on so many levels.

The question now is,When is the sequel to this book coming out,Deb?

4.0 out of 5 stars Archie and KISS Strange Bedfellows, March 23, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lately, Archie and the Riverdale gang have done some crazy things. They met the GLEE class in another diamention and now KISS crosses over into Riverdale

KISS looks ARCHIED, not really like KISS (like the rock group has looked in previous comic incarnations) in my opinion. The story of Sabrina's spellcasting being interupted and four teen monsters crossing over with KISS is purely enjoyment for ARCHIE fans. It takes a nod to Archie's Weird Mystery comic and cartoon.

It is a wonderful Archie universe with KISS and the Archies save Riverdale as you expect it to be at the end. For bizare cuteness is one to read

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy Days short-lived spin off, March 9, 2014
Spin offs are part of Television. If you think All in The family, you think the Jeffersons and Good Times. ..Man from UNCLE, you think The Girl from UNCLE...The Six Million DollarMan, you have the Bionic Woman..

Joanie Loves Chachi was spun off from Happy Days, which already had the spin offs of Laverne and Shirley and Mork & Mindy. This show lasted almost two seasons

Erin Moran and Scott Baio with Al Molinaro (Al) transfer from Happy Days cast with semi ease. Moran and Baio make a cute couple. Their pairing in this show works as a couple who have a start up band. They already feel comfortable as the characters..maybe because their Characters were firmly established on Happy Days This cutesy sitcom of the 1980's makes a case for good TV, not the reality shows of today.

With any sort of TV spin off, the original Happy Days Cast members (Maron Ross, Tom Bosley and Henry Winkler ) crossed over for visits in this series. It had many of the production team of Happy Days are also involved, so you knew it had the same quality as Days or the other spin offs from producer Garry Marshall

I hate to say it, I enjoy this complete series of 18 episodes. I would watch this show on TV Land anytime. Wonder why this is not on TV Land, Antenna TV or Me-TV

3.0 out of 5 stars The Final Season, March 9, 2014
This review is from: Burn Notice: Season 7 (DVD)
I loved this show from the first season. However. this seven and final season, collected in this dvd set, seemed disjointed, over-played and lost direction of the original show's concept. I know every good show has to change, but this went a total 360 and tried to alienate its fans with this season's grittier edge.. Micheal's deep undercover mission would have been great for another show, not for Burn Notice. Show creator and producer Matt Nix just went too far off the basic concept and its shows

The cast was and is amazing. This is one great reason to get this set. The acting is never better. Jeffrey Donovan as Micheal Weston leads this cast so well. Gabrielle Anwar (Fi),Bruce Campbell (Sam), Sharon Gless (Maddy), and Coby Bell ( Jesse) blend so great together.

The highlight of this season is the casting of John Pyper-Ferguson who is larger than life villian, James Kendrick. When he is on screen, his powerful and hypnotic presents compells you to watch. His character is only in six episodes, you can wish he was in more

The fatal twist is a death is the last episode of a beloved character to save the rest of the group. I felt the death of unneeded and was a waste. It is an emotional turning point in the final episode, this after last year death of Micheal's brother Nate . This character unselfish act is something you would not see coming, since all these character have cheated death all seven seasons.

One note, with only one commentary of the forget me not episode makes me wish they did a few more commentary, especially since this was the show's final season.

This is one show I would love , in five years, to see a reunion movie and find out where many of these character are.

RIP Burn Notice ..you were great escapist TB for seven season..Thanks
