1.0 out of 5 stars Clearly some people are very satisfied with the product, February 10, 2015

This was my second try at a Homedics Clock Radio. The first one showed up and didn't work. I thought, well that was a lemon so I'll try again. The second one showed up, and it didn't work. So be warned. Clearly some people are very satisfied with the product. But since the radio has only a good, not a great, chance of even working, why bother?

1.0 out of 5 stars that was worse. NOTHING HAPPENED, February 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I opened the box I knew I was in trouble - it had that special look that only an item that has been bought, returned, bought, and returned... and bought... can have. And when I plugged it in, well, that was worse. NOTHING HAPPENED. The darn thing doesn't work, not with batteries, not with electricity, not with wishing it would. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE ON THIS ONE. Buy from a more reliable dealer.

These are sized really, really, really off. If you're a slim man, a medium is way too small for you. Best to buy from another brand that uses normal sizes.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!
Yes, a thousand of the company's friends have written nice reviews. But the fact it, as a few other people have pointed out, it's a cheap plastic piece of crap that DOESN'T WORK. After fifteen minutes the thing went dead on me, and has been dead ever since.
DO NOT BUY THIS!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like many people who've been prescribed anti-depressants, November 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There aren't that many books that you read over the course of your lifetime that actually change your life. This one will change mine. Like many people who've been prescribed anti-depressants, I've been wary of them, especially as my psychopharmacologists have changed allegiances to different ones over the years. Prozac was fashionable, then it wasn't. Effexor was great, then it caused panic attacks. Celexa had no side effects, until it did. It's hard for patients to have the wherewithal to challenge their shrinks, to inquire if an anti-depressant is actually right the course of therapy, to wonder if there's a below-the-table relationship between psychopharmacology and the drug business. Well, if you've ever wondered about these issues, this book explains it all. It's not a happy picture. Your worst suspicions are probably correct. An anti-depressant may indeed be the problem, and not the solution.

But the book does more than expose the corruption and dishonesty inherent in the wildly profitable psychotropic business. It's also an extremely well written and well researched page turner. Whitaker has produced a book that not only should everyone read, but one that everyone can enjoy reading.

In fact, Anatomy of an Epidemic should be required reading for everyone who's ever been to a therapist--which, in this country, means, well, just about everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too small, September 10, 2014

Be very careful. No matter what you think of the fleece or the design, the fact is, they're sized WAY too small. An 11 is really a 10 or smaller.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice but too choppy, June 12, 2014
This review is from: Classical For Studying (MP3 Music)
If the idea is to create something relaxing, then choose longer pieces to lessen the jarring effect of changing moods and sounds.

2.0 out of 5 stars EF Benson at his worst, June 9, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Luck of the Vails (Paperback)
The Lucia books are among the funniest books ever written. The prolific Benson also wrote a number of great short stories and even some terrific ghost tales as well. This novel, however, is an effort to combine wit, murder, mystery, and superstition into what turns out to be an almost unfathomably dull novel. The scariest thing about this book is that it was republished.

1.0 out of 5 stars Important topic, bad book, April 23, 2014
This book is infuriating. A writer with good credentials takes on a valid subject. But instead of doing her research, going deep into the story, interviewing as many people as possible, the author seems to have written this in just a few weeks. She starts off with an astounding presumption -- that gay marriage only became an issue in the last few years, and ignores the extraordinary efforts of those who were working for it when people like Becker weren't even born. She then creates a narrative that is factually inaccurate and poorly written. Forcing the Spring reads as though it were a treatment for a Hollywood move rather than a book -- and it makes the mistakes that such movies make when they take on real events. Instead of delving deep into the subject, they create a simple narrative for an audience to watch, shrugging off the difficult issues and complex characters. But that's the point of choosing to read a book over a watching a movie -- a book doesn't have to be simple. Books are the only place in our culture where the real depth and drama of a great historical moment can be described at its fullest. This book shirks its responsibility and glosses over reality. What a shame.

The Chain (The Kinship Series) (Volume 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific book, March 8, 2014
The Chain is a very well-told detective story -- it has all the right ingredients: good writing, good plotting, good characters. But it's actually much more than just another thriller. It's a book set in the world of animal abuse at factory farms, and Lamont either has spent time in this world or she has studied it well, because there are no missteps in her description of the terrible plight of animals subjected to this kind of farming. What makes the book much more interesting is that Lamont is also keenly aware of the terrible plight of the humans who work in these kinds of places: the toll it takes on them. Using this knowledge wisely she creates a story that is suspenseful, riveting, and important. Highly recommended!!!
