Hilarious. Smart. Touching. Witty. Whimsical. Too short. Cannot wait for the next book in the series!

On the Rebound: Sweet Sports Romance (Irving University Book 1)
On the Rebound: Sweet Sports Romance (Irving University Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not another run-of-the-mill contemporary romance, January 31, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This sweet sports romance is Jim Cangany's best yet. As another reviewer noted, it has a great romance, but also tells the story of a disgraced basketball coach's season of redemption. Greg Miller lost his job as an ass't. coach with a big-time men's basketball program when the entire program was caught up in a grade fixing scandal. He's been out of work for two years, however, as few people believe his innocence, although he was officially cleared in an investigation. An old friend who is now the head coach of a women's program at a small school, Irving University, needs an assistant fast and hires him over almost everyone's objections. And when he meets the team's academic advisor, a former women's player named Ciara, the sparks fly in more ways than one. There are so many things I love about this book. The characters, school, setting, are all really well drawn. The story is not predictable. The author really did his research on women's college basketball and makes his unusual setting some to life. The story of Irving's quest for a championship is riveting and I literally got chills in the climactic scene. The book also takes on some serious issues, too, such as anxiety and depressive disorders, in a realistic and compassionate way. Oh, and Marie, the heroine's best friend, cracked me up! Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Egg McMuffin-style sandwiches, January 3, 2016

These work well and don't warp or stick like the metal rings from other companies. I would have preferred ordering a set of only two rather than having to order four--I don't really need that many. There are no instructions, so I would suggest watching some YouTube videos to figure out how to best use them.

This was a gift for my husband, along with a few other brands of polo shirts. This was his favorite. The fit was great, fabric was soft, and the Olympic blue was a very pretty color.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 10-year-old son loves this book. He's worked through ..., November 23, 2014
My 10-year-old son loves this book. He's worked through all the projects as they're presented in the book, but he's also learned the principles to modify the projects and create his own. The projects include simple video games that kids will want to create. The book comes with a trial of MicroWorlds EX software, and a code that allows the reader to purchase it at a steep discount after the trial expires. He's already decided he wants to buy the software when the trial expires and has told everybody he wants to be a coder when he grows up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book!, November 6, 2014
This was a great book! I had never heard about locking a redstone repeater until I read this book. This book is really good for beginners. One thing is that a lot of the tips were for Minecraft for PCs, and I play on Xbox.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, involving historical women's fiction!, September 25, 2012
This review is from: Castles We Build (Kindle Edition)
Alyson Reuben has a habit of writing well-researched historical stories with off-the-beaten-path settings, and this one is no exception. At the beginning of the story, the heroine, Julia, is happily married to her second husband, a wealthy businessman. Her past intrudes painfully when her first husband, whom she'd thought dead, returns, wanting to be a part of her and their child's life. She keeps her first husband's return a secret from her new husband as she struggles to decide between them. Along the way, a factory fire, a willful, rebellious stepdaughter, and struggles with her own negligent mother test her resolve. The characters in this story are all well-drawn and sympathetic. No one is a clearly defined good guy or bad guy. You really feel for Julia as she finds herself in this impossible situation! The setting also drew me to this story--roaring 20s Florida. It's well-researched with lots of interesting period detail. Although this is women's fiction, it does have strong romantic elements. A winner from Alyson Reuben!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast, funny read, April 26, 2012

I've enjoyed Kelli Scott's previous books--she's got a great way with words and her books are always funny. Paranormals/shapeshifters aren't usually my thing, but I like her voice enough to overlook that. In this case, the paranormal part is often played for laughs, which makes for a fun ride in my view. The plot revolves around a woman who comes to take a job in the town of Mystic Springs, known for its resort and mineral hot springs. She immediately strikes sparks off of the mayor, but is puzzled by the town's many odd residents and her own increasing tendency to black out at odd moments. Little does she know that her arrival in town is no accident. The towns' residents, shifters all, think she has come kind of magical power to rejuvenate the town's ailing spring, which is the wellspring of all the shifters' powers. The mayor, a grieving widower, has lured her to the town to test the accuracy of their beliefs. She's quickly sucked into a crisis when the tribes of shifters all compete over her, often wanting to do some very unpleasant things to her/with her to fulfill their tribal prophecies.
Favorite line? "Those fish people can go f*** themselves!"

I haven't left a review in some time but I just had to comment on this book. I don't read a lot of category romance but I'm glad I made an exception for this one. It's got everything I look for in a romance: an interesting setting (cross-country bike ride), great characters, snappy dialogue, humor, and steamy heat that never crosses over into sleaze. This book reminds me of Erin McCarthy's best books. I'll be eagerly awaiting her next book in June.
