4.0 out of 5 stars Basic but useful, January 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It took me a while to realize this was a book aimed at younger readers; nevertheless Dawkins is a masterful explainer and does a terrific job at deconstructing complicated subjected into understandable bite-sized pieces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bio, January 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought I knew something about Joseph Kennedy (stock manipulator, bootlegger, womanizer, Nazi appeaser).
After reading this book it turns out there's a great deal I didn't know.
Essential for anyone who wants to better understand the history of the 20th century, and everything about the Kennedys.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great read, January 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like a mix of history/film noir/clever writing so I really enjoyed this.
It's not for everyone but Philip Kerr defined this genre and is the clear master of it.
I found it to be a truly fun read.

Advertising Design and Typography
Advertising Design and Typography
by Alex White
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $32.48
63 used & new from $6.59

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful book from a true master, March 25, 2007
In any field there are pretenders, there are competent performers, and there are masters. In the field of typography and advertising design, Alex White is a master. And he has written a masterful book, suitably titled "Advertising Design and Typography." Every page is packed with practical, clear, impactfully illustrated information that demands to be read, re-read, and, most important, put into use. This quote from Arthur Conan Doyle (p. 75) says it best: "Talent instantly recognizes genius." Anyone with talent in design will recognize Alex White for what he is, and for what he has produced in this book: Genius.

Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy
Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy

5.0 out of 5 stars Way more than a sports book, October 18, 2002
Just like Sandy Koufax was much more than a pitcher so this biography is way more than a sports book. Without spending a lot of time with Koufax himself, the author fills in such a mountain of details gathered from hundreds of interviews that one has a crystal clear sense of this very complex man.
Biographical materials are intertwined with a description of Koufax's finest hour, his perfect game against the Cubs in 1965. It makes for a very entertaining read whether you are a Koufax fan or not.
If there is anything to criticize it's that at 266 pages the book is about half as long as I would have like it to have been.
Maybe there will be a sequel.

IdeaWise: How to Transform Your Ideas into Tomorrow's Innovations
IdeaWise: How to Transform Your Ideas into Tomorrow's Innovations
by Fraser P. Seitel
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $21.52

5.0 out of 5 stars One of those business essentials, August 1, 2002
IdeaWise combines business wisdom with fast-moving humor. I found myself highlighting something on just about every page, and having a chuckle or two along the way. This book is very cashew-like: each little nugget is tasty, and you don't want to stop eating them.
