5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED this book..., May 17, 2013

This review is from: Sh*t My Dad Says (Hardcover)
I took this book to bed. You know, short read before drifting off to sleep. Well, I woke my husband up three times as I was ROFL...almost literally.

I didn't think anyone else had a dad like mine but this book brought back many good (and bad) memories of growing up in our household.

But like Justin Halpern, no matter how crazy my dad was, I knew he loved his family.

So, in between a lot of rude, crude, vulgar language, I got to laugh until I cried. And I got to remember my dad. I loved this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really like these sports sunglasses, May 16, 2013
I like these sports frame sunglasses. I got the black/smoke combination and they are very nice looking.

They are some of the most comfortable sunglasses I've worn, with very comfortable padded nose and ear pieces. The reflector wraparound lenses block out most sunlight with 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays (this is what is advertised and I'm taking them at their word). I did notice that because of the wraparound design and the tight fit, that the glasses fogged a bit.

The frames and lenses are supposed to be shatterproof. Now I didn't drop these off a ten-story building or run over them with a Hummer but they do seem to be very durable. I did drop them onto our hardwood floors with no visible damage.

I didn't notice any distortion in either lens, which is sometimes a problem with cheaper sunglasses. My understanding is that these lenses are "optically correct with decentered lenses" - prismatic distortion has been eliminated by shifting the geometric center (or mid-point of the lens) to the optical center directly in front of the eye (from the Internet). Am I an optometrist or ophthalmologist? No - I can just report on how the sunglasses seem to me.

Something else I like - these push up onto the top of my head (out of the way) and they stay there with no slipping.

All in all, these are a great deal for the price especially when you factor in the 30 day money back guarantee and the lifetime breakage warranty.

I was sent these sunglasses at no charge by Newport Blvd. as long as I did a review of them. And I have left my honest feelings and observations about the sunglasses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dire wolves, sabre-toothed tigers and short-faced bears...oh, my!, May 16, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed this third book of this serialized novel the best out of the three. It is longer and had more "substance" to it. But I liked all three books and they should be read in order. Lost worlds, extinct (everyone thought) animals, a nasty bad guy, a good guy that was a bit clueless at times. The books aren't perfect. Dialogue is a bit sophomoric, any romance is a bit cliché and the plot is predictable - and the author left some gaping holes in the plot.

BUT...I still liked it. It was a fun, quick, exciting read. I liked the parts that described the valley and the animals the best.

One thing I forgot to mention in my other reviews that certainly bears mentioning...the covers on all three books are stunning.

I wish the price had been less but for the cost of a couple of coffees, I got to read a fun book.

4.0 out of 5 stars From ghoulies and ghosties. And long-legged beasties. And things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!, May 16, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed Lost Valley: The Discovery (A Serial Novel, Part 1). I knew up front that this is a serialized novel and would most likely have cliffhanger endings. And it surely does.

Protagonist Luc Moon discovered more than he ever bargained for in Part 1 - and then he ends up having to go back into the forbidden mountains to try and find his children and ex-wife after they've gone down in a helicopter crash.

Rough land, treacherous adversaries, beyond dangerous never-before-seen animals...all tied together in this Part 2 of the Lost Valley saga.

I do agree with others that the sections are a mite over-priced and some of the story doesn't quite match up with what I know of Alaska but I'm enjoying the story as a story. I'm glad, though, that I'm reading it when Lost Valley: The Escape (A Serial Novel, Part 3) is already out and ready to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nicely made credit card wallet especially for price, May 15, 2013
I've been wanting to get a credit card wallet for quite a while to organize all my credit cards and shopping incentive cards, etc.

It is made of a nice quality cowhide leather, black in color. The snap holds the wallet firmly closed (I've had a problem with weak closure devices on similar items in the past) and I'm happy with the slim profile that fits nicely in my purse.

There is one slot for my driver's license and nineteen slots for other cards. The only slight downside is that the slots are very tight fitting. I would imagine it's a Catch 22 for the seller. You want the slots to be tight enough to hold the cards in without them falling out but I want to be able to slip a card out fairly easily when I need it. I am hoping, since this is leather, that the slots will stretch a little bit as time goes by.

The long inner slots on each side of the wallet (for cash or receipts or whatever) work nicely and are a good size. They are the perfect tension, too - not too tight.

This is a very nice wallet that I would expect to cost quite a bit more.

This is my honest review on this wallet that was sent to me for review purposes by Newport Blvd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart of the Hunter, May 15, 2013

I enjoyed this first part of the "Lost Valley" series a lot. I knew up front when I purchased it that this was a serialized novel and the parts would probably be short. That written, I am glad that I waited until the whole book was online so I don't have to wait to finish the book.

I like Luc Moon, the protagonist of the story. The characters are pretty well developed in the short time that part one allows. l like the descriptive portions of the story that talk about Alaska. I've been to Alaska and I think some of the descriptions are a little "off" but I still am enjoying the read.

The ending was a cliffhanger but I expected that in a serialized novel so that's okay with me - just makes me want to read book two.

Lost Valley: The Hunted (A Serial Novel, Part 2) and Lost Valley: The Escape (A Serial Novel, Part 3) are the continuation and finalization of this story. I'm getting ready to start part two now.

4.0 out of 5 stars "I'm actually more afraid of the Black Swan.", May 15, 2013

It's been ten years since The Eden Plague. Things haven't got any better on Earth. Politics, backstabbing and aliens here and on the way. About half the inhabitants of Earth have the Eden Plague while the other half fights against getting it.

A great submarine section in the story, nukes, nanobots...and much more.

I liked "The Eden Plague" more than this second addition to the Plague Wars series. But if you like hard science fiction, you should love this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great in my feeder; birds love it., May 12, 2013

This product works well in my No/No Red Cardinal Bird Feeder C00322. The mourning doves and finches seem to love it.

I didn't notice any waste such as sticks, stones or empty seeds in the bag so far.

I appreciate that the bag has a handle on the bottom. It makes the 20 pound bag much easier to pour out of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, attractive feeder, May 12, 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am really enjoying this bird feeder. It arrived in a flat package (it telescopes down when not suspended from the bail handle). It was easy to open by just clicking the sides of the plastic packaging open.

The feeder itself is heavy duty, from the tray on the bottom to the wire mesh sides to the circular covering on the top that has two little levers that hold it in place. The red painting job is a quality job and should protect against the elements for years to come.

I use Oil Sunflower Seeds and the seeds work fine in the feeder. We don't have cardinals in our area but the mourning doves and finches have enjoyed it so far.

I hung it on a big branch in our mulberry tree using a large screw-in utility hook and it's working fine.

The feeder is a little difficult to fill with one person because it telescopes down when empty and the filler hole is at the top. Trying to manhandle a 20 pound bag of seeds and manipulate the feeder can be trying. I just have my hubby help me.

This is a quality product and I'm glad to have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars "That others may live.", May 12, 2013
It's easy (or at least easier) to make decisions in your everyday life when you and your loved ones are healthy in body and mind but what if you weren't? What if you had cancer or muscular dystrophy or had been in a car wreck or suffered PTSD?

Elise Wallis is a research scientist with incurable cancer when she is introduced to the Eden Plague.

Daniel Markis was an Air Force Pararescueman before injuries and PTSD sidelined him. Now he's been infected with the Eden Plague, curing him of all his ills but leaving one "small" change. Was it worth it? And a big question - where did this virus originate from?

Beyond fast-paced with believable characters, the author drew me into his vision of this small group of Americans who have to make earth-changing decisions based on the Eden Plague virus. This is TEOTWAWKI plus military thriller plus sci fi.

Some twists and turns along the way with a little (awkward) romance thrown in, I've already purchased the next book in the series The Demon Plagues: Book 2 (Plague Wars) and am looking forward to diving onto it right away.

NOTE: I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes and I have given an honest review.
