5.0 out of 5 stars First rate solution for home automation., June 27, 2015
Solid and simple. Home automation can be a pain. But this device, along with Lutron switches and plugs is simple to set up and to program. I had the system up and running in about an hour - and that was because I wanted to establish three different scenes (ways of using the switches and plugs in combination). The geofencing option is great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it., May 16, 2015
This switch was not simple to install, it requires a neutral wire. After installation I discovered that it did not allow a complex password to program - so I had the choice of either compromising my network password or allowing the switch to work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fitbit is ignoring legitimate customer requests, May 5, 2015
I started using Fitbits in August of 2011. I have bought the One (two models), the Charge and a Zip. I have also recommended the products to a lot of my friends. NO MORE!! About a year ago a group of users asked Fitbit to integrate their data with the Apple Health Kit- which accumulates the kind of data the Fitbit produces as well as other data on your health. It is also a great platform for individuals who want to crowd source their data. The Company's response was first to say, we are considering it. But then for the last year, to ignore the large body of users who have made a simple request.

From my perspective that is the kind of corporate BS that is simply inappropriate. So as of this day, I am no longer a fitbit user and will no longer recommend their products. I understand that Fitbit may be worried that by incorporating into the Apple Health Kit they may risk something - I would argue that they would risk nothing and indeed might be able to keep an attract health minded consumers who want to get the benefits of the fitness data they can generate with this device as well as the more general benefits of producing data which can be integrated in other kinds of health tracking and in the crowd-sourcing of biomedical data which will aid us all. This is supposed to be a century where biomedical advances will be coming fast and furious - and individuals now have an ability not only to track their own fitness goals (as you can with Fitbit and a number of other products) and at the same time develop data which can be used to improve your own personal health and to contribute to large population research studies. Thankfully, there are plenty of other fitness trackers who have a more thoughtful view.

From the original one there have been some changes - including redesign so that the very flimsy clip is now a single piece. In the first one I bought I had two split and the company was not especially helpful in responding to my request for a replacement - but that problem has been solved. The Fitbit Application is actually pretty good and the newest models (including the one) of the device have some good features but this kind of corporate temper tantrum is simply unacceptable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, April 12, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a book that is a bit outdated - and a second edition is in the works. But for anyone who is interested in how colleges and universities will evolve - it is both a history and a guidebook. It made me think about the current state of higher education and how creative leaders can steer through the treacherous waters of today's environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain fun - great characters and a twisty plot, April 12, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a first novel from a retired teacher. It should not be his last. Start with a mysterious hippie dad, a Marin county mom and a techie who has a sense of fun. Add in a main character whose name is Richard Milhous Nixon Youngblood and a crazy stalker and you begin to get the plot. This is the kind of book that you can read in one sitting - the characters are engaging, the plot inventive and twists intriguing. This light-hearted story is about a guy who becomes a politician and then decides to tell the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars While he tends to repeat a couple of points in the book - this is the best book I have found about this important time in ..., March 9, 2015
This is a well done and careful history of the group of American soldiers who fought for the Mexicans in the 1846-48 war. Hogan went to original sources in both Spanish and English and took some care in attempting to explain what drove what many of us know as the San Patricios to their role in the war. His descriptions of key battles and soldiers comes from military sources and other official records.

While he tends to repeat a couple of points in the book - this is the best book I have found about this important time in US and Mexican history. The book went out of print briefly and came back as a Kindle version which he has done some updating on. It is well worth the read.
