2.0 out of 5 stars The flavor is gross., May 24, 2016
Blech, way too sweet and gritty. Feels like I am brushing my teeth with sugar. We'll see if I can get thru this tube but I'm not optimistic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not your mother's Stir and Frost, February 19, 2016
As others have said, don't be tricked into thinking this is a modern-day Stir and Frost cake (remember how AWESOME SaF was?? That frosting packet you got to knead before using it...).

What's good about it:
- It's small and none of it goes to waste.
- It's a manageable baking project for a child. My son just turned 7 and was soooooooo proud of himself when he made this almost all by himself (I cracked the egg and did all the oven stuff).
- It's a decent cake from a flavor and texture standpoint.

What's not good about it:
- It's almost as much trouble as a full-size boxed cake mix and that's before you undergo the frosting prep.
- The yellow cake looks very unnatural - very dayglo yellow so a whole lot of added colors are going on, I think.
- It's 3x as expensive as a regular full-size boxed cake mix.
- You have to remove the cake from the included pan after it has cooled or else you have to deal with the weird base of the pan which is sort of weirdly open. Part of the appeal of this product is ostensibly its convenience but having to dirty up a plate contradicts that.
- You have to make the frosting from an included mix. I said no to that and just used some canned frosting I had already open. Frosting mix went into the trash.

It's just kind of a mess of a concept. Is it a convenience product, or isn't it?

2.0 out of 5 stars Really good content but HORRIBLE binding., December 15, 2015
My kid is almost 7 and is very interested in all things Ninjago. I bought this book for him at the Scholastic Book Fair at his school. This is a book bound with the cheapest possible method and the pages are all falling out and now he's crying. Pass.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far it's been awesome. Kept food HOT for hours. UPDATE UPDATE, August 18, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Last week I read all the reviews for this product trying to get an idea whether it seems to keep food hot. The reviews were aggravatingly contradictory! Lots of differing experiences with this product.

My son took soup to school today. I heated it up pretty hot at 730 am and I also let the thermos sit with very hot water in it before I dumped out the water and poured in the soup. I think his lunch is at 12 noon. He said the soup was almost too hot to eat. Now, he is six, so what seems too hot to him is different from an adult so keep that in mind.

When I was reading the instructions just now before cleaning the thermos, it says, and I quote:

"USAGE RECOMMENDATIONS:
*Not for use with hot food or snacks."

Whuck? Elsewhere in the instructions, it refers to using this item with hot food, so I'm pretty confused about this. We're gonna be scofflaws and continue to use it for hot food. Anyway so far this item has been great and it fits pretty well in his soft-sided lunch box (He has this one: Wildkin Blue Camo Lunch Box )

UPDATE 9/12/15: OK so we have used it a handful more times. Apparently while it keeps soup/liquid super hot, it doesn't do as well when it's less full and less densely full. For instance, pasta or meatloaf put in hot in the morning is not hot at lunch time. I think it's maybe lukewarm at best. Just so you know.

3.0 out of 5 stars They work well, but EXTREMELY messy., June 29, 2015
I have a few of these hanging around my house and they definitely work well. My quarrel is with getting them from the box to the wall or window or whatever surface you're attaching them to. The packaging expressly states "Mess free - glue does not stick to fingers when touched". UM. Utter and complete hogwash. (Remember on "Modern Family" once, someone accused Cam of saying something dumb, saying it was hogwash, and Cam goes "as someone who has seen actual hogwash, I can assure you that it's not." That line always cracks me up.)

Anyway. When you're trying to unroll these strips of flypaper, they are constantly fighting being unrolled and straightened and it's pretty impossible to do it while you're holding the canister in one hand and the far end of the roll of flypaper with the other. You really need at least 3 hands to get the job done without major drama ensuing. Invariably, the strip gets itself out of my grip at least once, and swings around getting that extremely tacky glue on everything in its path. "Wrangling" is really the right word to describe what you have to do to tame this stuff.

Not only are you then covered in sticky, IT DOESN'T COME OFF. I washed and washed and washed and ultimately had to put Ajax on one of those scrubby scrubber puffs you use to scrub cast iron and scrub my hands that way. Days later I'm still finding spots of it here or there.

So, yes, effective product, but no, not "not messy".

Many many missing pieces, like 6 or 7. Very very very odd given our track record with LEGO. However, LEGO was very cooperative in providing the missing pieces. Fiddly to assemble, too. Not my favorite LEGO kit.

It works OK as far as creating the shapes. The waffles aren't real waffles, though. They're very dense pancakes, really. If you want real waffles with the varied landscapes suggested by the name "waffle", this isn't for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this! Not a brrrrng-brrrrng bell but still., April 30, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Got this for my 6-year-old son to celebrate the removal of his training wheels. It's a hammer bell, meaning you pull back on that black tab then let it go and it gives you a hearty DING, but just one ding, not a brrrrng-brrrrng sound like on traditional bike bells.

The compass feature is AWESOME in the eyes of a six year old.

Full-throttle recommend on this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Yep, this price point is problematic, April 30, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
They're Hershey Kisses. They're not the best chocolate in the world, and don't compare to Ghirardelli or See's for pure milk chocolatey goodness. But they're classic and they're awesome. As others have noticed, the price of $30 for 66 oz is no deal. Then again, you know amazon's pricing...I think their algorithm is more complex than what governs airline tickets. So it's entirely possible that it will drop down into the reasonable range some day (around $22 as another reviewer mentioned). If that happens, and you can get free s/h, then this morphs into a yes.
