5.0 out of 5 stars Restaurant quality GF pasta!, January 3, 2015
I've been GF for two years and absolutely LOVE pasta. Tried many and ... well ... they're good enough, but I'm always on the lookout for something that comes close to the rich silky quality of real wheat flour pasta. I ate at a Pasta Cucchina (moderately upscale Italian restaurant) and ordered the GF pasta reluctantly and ... boy it was good! Very, very close to the "real thing", real Italian wheat flour pasta ... pure white, silky, no grit, no graininess. I asked then waitress figuring it was a specialty product only available to restaurant or even only Pasta Cucchina outlets. They " fessed-up" it was Heartland. Said they get a lot of compliments on it. It's 5 for 5 for me ...

5.0 out of 5 stars If it isn't brilliant.., August 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Head-and-Shoulders above anything I've ever read on writing proposals & RFPs. Only author to show three levels/models of communication:
informative (conveying information), evaluative (what your conclusions were about something you evaluated and how you arrived at those conclusions) and persuasive (getting others to buy into your recommendations). If it isn't brilliant ... it's sure darn close. Reads well ... interestingly written. Must-have for anyone that sells B2B or uses persuasion extensively in his/her business activities.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY book that explores TOC for services ..., April 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a classic for managing services as a provider, and executives who are TOC advocates that have difficulties applying TOC to the production of services, esp. on-demand services that are difficult to pre-package such as professional consulting services that very difficult to pre-package or standardize. This is the ONLY book that explores TOC for services competently and in-depth. It is NOT an easy read, but it is immensely rewarding ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes TOC forward with new insights ..., April 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Smith is a highly experienced accounting and manufacturing expert who takes TOC forward with new insights. In my opinion (I've read over 100 TOC books and articles), it's the first credible ADVANCED TOC offer. She spends a great deal of time exploring TOC's achilles' heel - getting management to buy-into TOC and continue to use it to develop the company/organization. Most managements take the "methodology of the month" approach to improving company performance. It's the rage for a month-or-two, then in comes another consultant with more claims of great productivity, etc. and TOC is out the door.

The challenge is to keep management's "head" in the game by tieing management compensation to sustained performance improvements and cut-out their ability to game the system by - for example - holding-off re-stocking inventory to "ride" a cash blip resulting from significantly lowered inventory levels & investment, only to have that inventory balloon-out the NEXT quarter when that special bonus is gone.

In addition, there is a great deal of case study-type material that the reader can "work" to develop their own understanding and ability to work with TOC concepts such as TP (the Thinking Process).

Management Dilemmas: The Theory of Constraints Approach to Problem Identification and Solutions (The CRC Press Series on Constraints Management)
Management Dilemmas: The Theory of Constraints Approach to Problem Identification and Solutions (The CRC Press Series on Constraints Management)

4.0 out of 5 stars Work the problems in the book ..., April 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Schragenheim assembles several interesting case studies that can be used as problems that could be solved using TP (the Theory of Constraints Thinking Process ... an advanced problem-solving technique). The case studies are put into a plot line to give the studies more relevance and make them more readable.

The best way to use this book is to read about the problem and spend an hour or several hours "working-up" the problem using TP or whatever problem-solving method you feel appropriate, THEN look a Schragenheim's discussion (he doesn't always offer a solution, rather, insights). The problems don't always have a "clean" solution/resolution.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this unless you are thoroughly familiar with the Theory of Constraints ..., April 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is about advanced sales management using Theory of Constraints. It is not about a better sales technique. Don't buy this unless you are thoroughly familiar with the Theory of Constraints. That said, it's an interesting application of ToC, but I didn't find the story (it's a business novel demonstrating the application of ToC to sales management) all that interesting or convincing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good looking, functional rack ..., April 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Good looking, functional rack. Hold 36 ties and you can see enough of the tie to pick out the one you want without having to rifle through the others. HOWEVER, the mounting screws are too small. I needed to drill-out the hole for a larger screw. Overall ... very pleased, as are my ties.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dated concepts ..., September 23, 2013

"Value-add", "Value-proposition", "competitive edge", etc. are pretty tame marketing clichés these days. This book might have been ground-breaking in 2006, but doesn't deliver much bang-for-the-buck (another cliché) today.

5.0 out of 5 stars It isn't light reading, but it is authoritative., September 23, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While a great approach to solving problems, esp in manufacturing, TOC (Theory of Constraints) lacks a well-documented base of experience. Most other manufacturing methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TQM) have extensive case-study material. But, it seems that while much is being done with TOC, no one has centralized this highly valuable material that could re-invigorate American manufacturing. MRP is the core support application for manufacturing - once the production schedule has been created, MRP lets everyone know what's on-hand and what's needed. It does the vast quantity of look-ups and calculations needed to properly provision the production line. MRP is difficult, more so when being utilized in a TOC production environment, so an authoritative book on MRP in a TOC environment is very valuable. This is the bible ...
