Love the extra zipper pocket for the stylus!

Also, the vendor provided attentive customer service when I brought something to their attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value! Fun colors!, October 28, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Just what I needed....

Some basic skins in bright colors that are easy to put on and take off, without making it feel like the iPad buttons are getting mashed in the process.

I have and still use a thicker, heavier case with a front cover, but found that I didn't like using it at home. So I started taking my iPad out of its case at home. But the iPad by itself was rather slippery, so I wanted a covering that was thin, light, and non-slippery and that was easy to take off and put on everyday. These are perfect! They have cut-outs in all the right places for my iPad 3rd gen....I can charge it with the skin on; other openings on the back are for-- headphone jack, microphone, rear camera, screenlock switch, speaker. The on/off button and the volume rocker are covered yet still very easy to control through the skin; the skin is raised up (like embossed, kind of) on these buttons. I like how these skins are transparent, so that most of my personalized engraving on the iPad shows through.

I appreciate the styluses in matching colors, too! [I haven't used the tether strings/lanyards yet.]

This is my second purchase from the Friendly Swede. Excellent service and speedy shipping!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely LOVED having this read aloud by the translator, Seamus Heaney!, March 7, 2012

This review is from: Beowulf (Audio CD)
It really felt like being taken back in time. And having it read aloud by the translator, with the pauses and emphasis on words/syllables just as he had intended, was superb. This type of literature was originally read aloud, and so the audio CD is the perfect way to enjoy Beowulf!

[This review is for the audio CD of Beowulf translated and narrated by Seamus Heaney. It is abridged.]

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick, yet potent, read for busy moms & dads!, March 6, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book contains very detailed and helpful information for parents trying to reduce the amount of sugar in their babies' and toddlers' diets, well beyond the obvious no-candy/desserts/sodas. Dr. Glass describes the different types of sugars (o.k., some of this got pretty scientific for me, with discussion of molecules, etc.) and how our bodies react to them. She also gives you the tools you need to quickly analyze any food your child is eating, to determine how much sugar is in it and to help you compare it to the daily recommended maximum of sugar intake. There are some practical tips for how to make changes with a child who is already accustomed to a lot of sugar or sweetness in his/her diet.

My favorite part is where Dr. Glass has used her background in health and medicine and applied her analysis to brand-name food products, many of them organic and/or natural baby/toddler foods. So you can use her list and you can also create your own using the tools provided! Excellent!

3.0 out of 5 stars great idea, but the recycled paper isn't ideal for coloring, October 9, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Though I love the idea of coloring your way through the world, the paper quality stood in the way of this book being used. Perhaps it was just an odd run that came out on the light grayish recycled paper. This really should be on heavier, bright white paper.

5.0 out of 5 stars love the layout!, October 9, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My kids use this atlas, which IMO has just the right amount of detail for us -- not too much, not too little. We can easily see the big picture of each region, along with an abundance of geographic features (rivers, mountain ranges, deserts, plateaus, etc.). I was able to do a side-by-side comparison of several large atlases, and the National Geographic ones by far had the best layout and color schemes to help the reader find the information he's looking for.

So far, we've used this atlas for ages 10 through 14.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved Lord of the Rings (book and/or movie), you'll enjoy this!, September 2, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In The Lord of the Rings movie, the culture of the Rohirrim (riders of Rohan, Eowyn, Eomer, et al) was based on the Beowulf culture, plus horses. The set designs for Rohan were largely based on artifacts similar to the ones illustrated in this book. If you liked the artistic design of the sets in LOTR, then you'll appreciate the many illustrations of artifacts, locations, ruins, and more, taken from the approximate time period (and location) of when (and where) Beowulf was thought to be written.

The illustrations and their descriptions give the reader a much stronger connection to the original story, making it more tangible and more easily pictured in one's mind. If you don't mind not having the side-by-side translation (this is modern English only), then this is the one to get!

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite movie score ever! and the 4th CD is so fun!!!, April 19, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you can't get enough POTC music, then consider getting this set. The fourth CD has a great variety of mixes. I also loved seeing some of the process of how a soundtrack is made on the DVD. Hans Zimmer is truly gifted! (FYI...I didn't already own any other POTC CDs before purchasing this, so I don't know how it compares for those who already own the 3 soundtracks).

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for Beatrix Potter fans, young and old, January 7, 2007
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and leafing through this interactive book.

The pages are richly printed on cardstock. Nearly every 2-page spread has something to do: lift-up card, fold-out note, 5-page "photograph album" booklet, pull-out letter in an envelope, fold-out map, lift-up stack-of-4 proof sheets, fold-out "The Game of Peter Rabbit", and more. All of these are printed on a variety of thick papers or cardstock.

A fun surprise is in the thick back cover of the book: a pocket holds "My privately printed edition of The Tale of Peter Rabbit" -- Mrs. Potter had her first run of 250 copies printed by Strangeways, before it was later accepted by a commercial publisher, according to this book. This Peter Rabbit book-within-a-book is not in color, just as the original was not in color, and its cover is ultra-thick cardstock (not hardcover). Beatrix Potter: A Journal, the main book, has thick padded covers, both front and back.

In fine print under the publisher's info and ISBN number, it reads, "This is a work of fiction based upon Beatrix Potter's journal and letters." It would have been more helpful to have more references and/or notes explaining which parts were based on fact.

Overall, this book is beautifully printed, imaginatively conceived, and great fun. I'm happy to add it to my Beatrix Potter collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars In-depth coverage of raptors for young readers -- The best book on raptors for this age group I've seen..., August 16, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
...and I've seen a lot of them! (maybe 30 or more different children's books on raptors and birds)

Many bird and raptor books for this age group are very basic and fairly sparse in detail, probably because they're written based on the assumption that most young readers would be overwhelmed by too much information. But my raptor-loving 7-year-old son poured over the library copy of Raptor! for many weeks, checking it out several times.

After spotting a bird of prey in the sky a few times, he grew interested in raptors. Within a month, he had checked out every book on raptors in the children and juvenile section of our local library. Most of the other raptor library books were read only once and put aside. Not so with Raptor! -- there were plenty of interesting details for my son to soak up.

We eventually invested in his own copy, which he still enjoys re-reading 2 years later. All in all, an excellent book for this topic and age group.
