Great book. Our 20 month old kiddo loves it.

The artwork is remarkable. The perspectives, geometry and staging are all very pleasing to look at. The cover gives an accurate representation.

If you saw this book and though "Oh our kiddo loves trucks. I bet he'd like this," you are right and you should get it.

Talented writer with keen insight; I highlighted a lot of passages in this book. Even so, the book was just okay. I don't know that I'll read any sequels.

This review is from: Supercell (Kindle Edition)
Found the conflict with the son to be outmoded and nearly fatal to my continuing reading.

It's hard to talk about this book with others. Listing out all the major plot points and conflicts sounds nothing short of ridiculous.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best crime show on TV, April 17, 2014
This review is from: Justified: Season 1 (DVD)
This show isn't like every other crime show on TV -- your CSI & Orders, your Rizolli & Burn Glades, etc. You don't know what's going to happen, but when it does it makes perfect sense -- kinda like life.

Each season of this show is a series of character portraits that are woven into an overarching plot. That is a very good thing because these characters - especially the two main characters - are eminently likable, even as one of them is currently blowing up a building.

Its also easy to fall in love with this show and its characters because everything that's said is pure honey. The dialog is incredible -- as remarkable and poetic as it is entertaining. Here's an excerpt from a later season:

"Where's my half of the dope?"
"Sometimes **** happens."
"And what about your half?"
"Sometimes it don't."

If all of this hasn't sold you, watch the show solely to witness the absolute platonic ideal of cowboy saunters that Timothy Olyphant is able to pull off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, April 16, 2014
My therapist asked me to watch this, and I'm glad she did -- and I'm glad I watched it.

I believe this video has the power to help someone affected by someone else's addiction be free of at least some of the anger toward the person. The anger may turn into a grieving process, but this is a much more healthy, functional, and contented state to be in. Letting go of this anger is for _you_; it's not any kind of forgiveness or rejection of all of your very valid stances and feelings. I know personally I still won't let my parent into our lives. After all, the disease is still raging and shows no signs of stopping!

Also, the scientific information shown in this video is absolutely fascinating. The reason I was interested in this video is because it was very important to me to figure out once and for all whether I believed addiction was truly a "disease." Being given concrete scientific information was critical to that belief, and this video has plenty.

These Kleenexes are always cold. Not menthol-cold; cold-cold. How? Black magic and/or voodoo. _Something_ died in order to give these tissues power over the elements.

Pull these puppies all day; every one brings with it the chill of a breezy winter's morn. Delicious!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible plot, March 30, 2014
This book is all over the place, and you don't even meet the main character until halfway through the book. When you finally get into the main story you don't even learn much about the guy. Who were his lovers? Did he like men or women? Did he have a drug problem (it certainly seemed like it!)? Hello, author, this is how you get people to care about a character.

This book also does this thing that I really hate: multiple endings. The main guy has a real downer of a death, but the author apparently doesn't want to preclude a sequel so he has this really half-baked rebirth twist. But then the book goes on to get the personal takes of every minor character and finally ends with the author's bizarre predictions for what's going to happen in the future. Only the most die-hard of fans will stick around for this fantasy's back story.
