5.0 out of 5 stars Meg Myers is going to be HUGE!!!, September 24, 2015
This review is from: Sorry (MP3 Music)
Meg Myers is phenomenal. She looks like everyone's little sister and sings like a force 5 hurricane. I've been listening to her 2 EPs for a couple years now, always back to back as if they were 1 album. This CD is a little slicker production-wise than her EPs, and her voice is a bit lower in the mix, but there is a fix for that-- TURN IT THE *F* UP!!

Her voice is both quiet and breathy, then it's powerful enough to melt the paint off your walls. Her songwriting is sharp and always emotional; you hang on every word. Favorite tracks? None really- every one kicks ass.

Buy her CD. Buy her EPs. Friend her on FB. Visit her website. When she headlines every major rock fest and plays Madison Square Garden, you can say, "I was a fan from the very beginning." I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Check this out if you like books that twist your mind into a pretzel., May 5, 2014

This review is from: The Cries of Innocents (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book immensely- it kept me guessing, I cared about the characters, it was a quick read... and it had a slam bang ending. The story moves forward at a good clip, peeling away layer after layer of the main character's psyche, and just when you think you have it figured out, guess what... you don't. Even the SUB-PLOT has a twist worthy of a Richard Matheson-penned-Twilight Zone episode!

Highly recommended as an intelligent, intriguing and ultimately satisfying read. First-time author Steven Fleischmann has hit it out of the park.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT your mother's Tom Jones., August 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spirit In The Room (Audio CD)
Always loved Tom Jones. Met him in Las Vegas. Knew his band and musical director. This is the same man and the same voice, but instead of pop and dance tunes, think- "Nebraska" or "Devils and Dust", Springsteen's best introverted, soulful, mostly-acoustic albums.

If you're expecting "Delilah" and "She's A Lady", forget it. Walk away. If you never heard, or never heard OF Tom Jones, but enjoy laid-back, soul-searching, honest, haunting electro-folky music, give it a listen. No matter what came before, this is a great standalone CD.

Price: $2.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Have you EVER seen a movie that was as good as the book?, June 28, 2013
No. Because the movie on the screen is never the same as the one you see in your mind as you are reading. Early on, from the moment I saw Barbie dump the body, I realized that this was not going to be a literal translation of the book, so I turned off my "inner movie" and just sat back and enjoyed the show.

There are dozens of well-drawn character in Stephen King's 1000+ page book. Consolidating everything in a 10 hour film (commercials...) there just isn't time to develop EVERY character, due to the additional time that must be spent on action and visuals. Some not as integral to the story will fall by the wayside. Happens all the time.

As far as the plot goes, the book is no "War & Piece"; while the story at times get a bit convoluted, even at times downright cheesy, it is still edge of your seat, heart-pounding fun, and I am sure I will enjoy every minute of this series...

...UNLESS, they completely mangle the ending, like what happened in Dreamcatcher. What they did to Duddits is unforgivable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accept this movie for what it is - a GREAT MOVIE!, June 3, 2013
To all the obsessive mega-fans who claim this is an insult to the Star Trek universe, guess what... THERE IS NO Star Trek universe. It's FICTION. It's a story, with plots and characters, locations and events-- ALL MADE UP. Sorry to shake the very foundation of your beliefs. But from the first episode of TOS, Gene Roddenberry was telling stories about truth, honor, trust, compassion, intelligence, companionship, bravery, and above all else, human emotion. We CARE about Kirk and Spock. We CARE about Scotty & Bones & all the rest. They are well-written, complex characters. The plots are (mostly) well-written, complex stories. You invest your time, and are entertained.

This movie is exciting, emotional, passionate and you become fully invested in it-- as long as you don't compare actors who might have played a particular role previously, or worry the a character dies who never did in the older versions. Enjoy the moment - it's STAR TREK for 2013, not TOS, TNG, DS9 or any other incarnation.

Beethoven wrote only one Symphony #9, but hundreds of orchestras have played it, recorded it, and not one interpretation is the same as any other. Into Darkness is an awesome interpretation of Roddenberry's creation.

I've been a fan from the beginning - 1966, and I left the theater with a huge smile!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Exquisite Music From Steve Hackett..., August 31, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
...with the added bonus of Chris Squire making this CD lightyears beyond the sum of it's parts. Every track has Steve's fingerprint, and Chris's songwriting and bass (I wish it were a bit more up front in the mix) blends in to produce perfection. These days, so much music is available that you listen and move on. It's rare that I play a CD over and over and over and over. This is one. I wish it were longer.

And "Aliens" is gorgeous, perfect, "Fish"-worthy Chris Squire, you dumbell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't read the book but the film is asoundingly horrendous, February 21, 2012
Absolutely no stars for this mind-numbing, miserable excuse for a film. I've never prayed for a movie to end until this one. Now I have no desire whatsoever to read the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars What in the hell did I just read?, October 15, 2009
This review is from: Relentless: A Novel (Hardcover)
I've been a fan of Koontz for quite a few years and some of his novels are top notch and some are just bleh. But this is the first time I've been truely pissed off that I wasted my time. I love his writing style; a fast read, learn a few new words each book. But what WAS this, a mystery, a comic adventure, gross-out horror, science fiction? It was all over the place.

I did not enjoy the last Odd book, Odd Hours, because the quirky hero, usually a quick thinker on his feet, engulfed in otherworldly mayhem, managed to escape his tormenters by simply... shooting them. It was if the author looked at his computer screen and said, "You know, I'm bored with this crap. I'm just gonna kill 'em all and be done with it."

Relentless left me with the same impression. It hooked me in 2 chapters, I liked the characters, the easy and humorous dialogue, and the concept. Even when it turned dark, I cared for the main character and the tragic events created as his backstory. But what happens from there to the end is the most rediculous mish mosh of genres I have ever read. Seriously, it's so easy to explain everything away when you use nonsense.

Sorry, it'll be a long, long time before I pick up another Dean Koontz book.
