5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written characters, February 25, 2015

Nora Roberts distinctive prose draws her characters into fully rounded life. Even the minor ones take on a distinct life of their own. Ian and Alanna are well-matched in spirit and passion and honorable hearts. How can we wish them anything but happy, if not peaceful, lives? The alternating narrative shows both their hearts and minds, creating characters we simply must pull for. I regret that this was a novella; I said goodbye to them far too soon.

Lightweight but entertaining. Quick recognition of word associations is a must. Clever connections between the two columns.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfinished story, October 1, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Story line is good.. even if it runs a little toward unbelievable that a young woman so cool under pressure could be so destroyed by her parents and by the sight of a good looking man. But then the story just stops. Be prepared to read the whole series to get any sense of closure; there are just too many stories left hanging with only a " to be continued" in the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good action story, August 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lots of action here, in and out of the bedroom. Honorable, heroic, hard bodied sexy men, intelligent appealing woman make a great combination. action is non-stop, without the kind of silly "solve it all by the end" conclusion that makes many such books fulfilling. situations are complicated but characters are refreshingly direct with each other, creating a relationship between Hunt and Khalia that you will want to have a happy ending.
Throw in enough contemporary info to make the bad guys really despicable; stack the odds against survival, and the tension builds with every chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Mix of Magic, TIme-Travel, Evil, and Bravery, July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Delightful whimsical tale, with just enough magic. The out-of-her-time heroine is well-drawn and appealing; the brooding male lead is a tortured soul that you will want to see recover. No quick answers, lurking evil, and a spunky heroine make this worth the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Turns a Cliche into Adventure, July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Starts with the typical impoverished beauty seeking to support herself as a governess, but then the clichés go away and the heroine emerges as strong and sensible and quite courageous. The hero holds his own, recognizing more in her than a pretty face. Bravery is not in short supply-- the wealthy family from whom she is estranged does not disappoint-- the end is just complex enough to be satisfying. If you like your heroines plucky, this will not disappoint.Overall, a fine read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just about a Dollar's Worth, July 30, 2014

This review is from: Smoke and Murders (Kindle Edition)
The description as "a romp through New Orleans" just doesn't ring true. I love Barr's Anna Pigeon character, so I bought this short story to see what else the author does. Not nearly as satisfying as I'd hope. Paid a dollar-- about what it was worth

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed, Realistic Christians as Main Characters, July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Heroine with dark secrets and great suffering-- hero with baggage that threatens to overwhelm them both. Christian fiction, true, but not a saccharine kind of plot. These characters have doubts to resolve and issues to face, and they don't do either without complex self-searching. Trust is key here-- trust in each other, but first they need to trust God and His love and mercy. Maybe a bit trite in spots, but the story line works overall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective Story with Minimal Development, July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's a short story, so it isn't fair to expect lengthy plot or character development. Entertaining, thought-provoking, and well-written. Not the greatest, but the story works and that means a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Action-Romance Filled with Roberts' References, July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great fun for a Nora Roberts fan; don't know if the references would work if the reader is not familiar with NR's work, but the title itself probably draws the right kind of reader. The plot line is Roberts-worthy, complete with plucky heroine, reluctant hero, sparks and bullets flying, and an effective narrative style as well. Good read.
