5.0 out of 5 stars A different recording of "The Sound Of Music", December 30, 2010
I was lucky enough to see this production in the early 80s in London. Petula Clark was amazing as Maria and created a performance that was very different from the movie version and previous stage productions. The opening song "The Sound Of Music" that Petula sang high atop a faux mountain on stage was simply thrilling to see and hear. Petula's vocal pop style is so effective in this stage production because she draws on her lifetime of experience on the concert stage and conveys a unique blend of raw emotion and confidence. The other principal cast members were legends of the movies, TV, and the theater and all created charming performances. I have the other stage versions on CD and must admit this recording outshines all the others. Copies of the original LP album sold for over $100 dollars on the auction sites. It had been out-of-print for 30 years so don't wait to buy it before it sells out and goes out-of-print again. Buy it now! You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, Great artists!, May 10, 2007
I was lucky enough to attend this historic concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London and it was an amazing night of music I will never forget. This was an very interesting variety of mainly British artists who performed these Bacharach/David songs with style and enthusiasm. The standout performances were Petula Clark (wish she would have recorded even more Bacharach/David songs on her albums), Elvis Costello, Dionne Warwick (what Bacharach/David tribute is complete without her), Paul Carrack, and Brian Conley (a big West End and UK TV star), and Brian Kennedy (discovered by Van Morrison and the vocalist for Riverdance on Broadway). A must for fans of Bacharach/David songs.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are 50s Recordings, April 3, 2007

These are Petula's 50s recordings which are more traditional sounding than her Downtown and beyond era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caution, December 11, 2006
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
The first few tracks are her big 60s hits but most of the tracks are from the 50s which had a completely different sound than her 60s vocals. Some people do not like the girl singer sound of the 50s so beware before buying.
