A Constellation of Vital Phenomena: A Novel

Account of how closely our lives are interwoven with others, even though we may be unaware of a connection. The horrors of the war and the inhuman suffering caused by twisted, sadistic people who used the war as an excuse is too horrible to contemplate. The counterbalance of the kindness of some of the other characters, restores my faith in humanity.

In every way. This story is told from a child's perspective and has an endearing quality while clearly demonstrating immaturity in decisions making and logic. Throw in the element of war and you find a novel that offers agony, fear, kindness, humanity, and yet is easily read.

To have an English judge as the principle figure in this novel. The 60 year old judge tells us of the cases she must render an opinion on, and the reader gets to see these cases from the judges perspective. The objectivity with which she must view these real life stories in order to render a judgement is fascinating and gave me much pause for thought. In addition to her cases, the judge is going through a marital crisis with her husband. The lens through which we view her personal problems is hers alone. This is a meaty book and offers much material for book group discussions.

and the characters. I really enjoyed the mingling of high tech with psychology and politics. Some things were a little far fetched, but then again that's why I read science fiction.
My biggest complaint was with editing. Too many books have misspelled, misused, or misplaced words, and this book is no exception. These errors really dilute my enjoyment, as they are glaring to me as a reader.

But unresolved plot lines so I feel dissatisfied and unfulfilled. For the most part the book is well written. This is one you'll have to try, then decide for yourself. .

non sequiturs for my taste. While you get an inside look at what it's like to tour with a band, Anna's habit of blurring present, past and future events is confusing as well as unsettling

story of epic proportions. Full of empathy, pathos, hardship, perseverance, self realization as well as the realization of a communal goal that was sought and captured, this book will engage and enthrall you. It's beautifully written and so descriptive that you can feel the pain in your own arms and legs! The author also gave me a historical perspective on global events that added immensely to my enjoyment of this book.

a better book if there weren't so many different characters with overlapping lives and connections through the decades that he reader was supposed to juggle. An explanation (towards the beginning of the book rather than the end) of ate portals and temporals would have made this book more a more enjoyable read. At times I struggled to determine whether this book was meant to be futuristic, fantasy, or sci fi. Too bad because I think the authors idea might have been a good one.

3.0 out of 5 stars an unusual, January 27, 2015

Story about an orphaned, vagabond child that discovers the comforts and balance of a " normal" life in a small, rural, Midwestern town where she is wholly accepted for herself. Lila doesn't really know who she is, and struggles against (while craving) normalcy. The book is somewhat confusing because Lila slips between her current and former life, as well as her memories, seamlessly. This left me scrambling at times, for how the incidents related to one another. Try it for yourself. You may matriculate the storyline better than I did.

With charming quirky characters and an ever expanding plot. This is the first " Flowers" novel I've read and it definitely won't be my last. The characters leap off the page and entertain you right to the end.
