5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, June 27, 2013
This review is from: Crazy Rich Asians (Hardcover)
First off, I am a straight male who heard about the book via NPR and gave the book a try. Mr. Kwan does an excellent job of taking you into the fabulously rich world of the Singapore elite. I do not normally read this type of novel, but I found it fun and refreshing.

Bravo Mr. Kwan, bravo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Execellent Read - A must for U.S. Citizens, February 23, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Richard Koo's book is excellent. His book details what happened in Japan, the similarities with the current U.S. disaster and the mistakes the Japanese made --namely cutting spending too soon as a result of political pressure which extended their deflation/recessionary environment for another 8 years (sound familiar?). Specifically, Mr. Koo examines the flaws of traditional economic analysis that never considered that during a balance sheet recession firms have to pay down debt and private citizens do the same out of necessity. Therefore, there is very little demand for all the liquidity the Fed injects into the economy( again, sound familiar?). Mr. Koo is my new favorite economist. I wonder how long it will take the rest of the developed nations' that are going through a real estate collapse, followed by a banking crisis, which is causing a sovereign debt crisis before the realize they should have read this book?

We will probably all be in the streets as if this is North Africa.

Bravo Mr. Koo, bravo.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent insight into life in Japan and personal triumph, September 30, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have to say that this work is captivating and interesting. As someone who has always had an interest in Japanese language and culture, I found the personal struggles of the author and the reflections on Japanese society insightful. This work was a pleasure to read and truly left me wanting to read more.

Bravo Mr. Aponte!
