Valhalla 2 Headphone Amplifier
Valhalla 2 Headphone Amplifier
Offered by Schiit Audio
Price: $389.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh, July 20, 2016
Yeah... So I fell into the schiit-y fever.

Sounds ok. Quality - not so much. It still feels like a garage-made product - despite all the well-worked social media marketing. The build quality is average at best - and (as mentioned more and more in the forums) the quality control leaves a lot to be desired. Scratches, chipped paint etc.

The sound quality is decent, if you pass the "tube noise" - a prominent background blank noise. Well - it's a feature, not a bug - one might say - it's the nature of the tube amplifiers.

Maybe so - but not for 400$.

Yes - it heats up quite a bit. Again - not a bug - but a feature of the tube amplifiers.

Overall - not worth the hype (or the price). O2 is a better sounding amplifier, with a third of the price. Honestly - you can get 95% as good with a basic FiiO around 75$.

I returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you need just one EP book, that should be it!, July 14, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
By far the most updated, the most comprehensive and the most practical electrophysiology book available in mid-2012. Algorithmic, exceptional pictures and tables.

I have tens, if not hundreds of EP books and this is my daily go to book. Buy it.

(A companion book would be Electrocardiography of Arrhythmias: A Comprehensive Review: A Companion to Cardiac Electrophysiology: Expert Consult - Online and Print, 1e that focuses on the electrocardiographic appearance of the arrhythmias)

3.0 out of 5 stars You NEED the adapter with the Firmware 1.03, November 5, 2010
There are few iterations of this adapter (I've had them all and exchanged/sold them until I found how to solve the issues).

There are 3 firmware versions - 1.01, 1.02 and 1.03. The problem is that one cannot say without opening the box and connecting both to the computer and to a monitor what is the installed firmware. Even worse, the adapter's firmware is not upgradeable (by the end-user or thru Apple Menu / Software Update). After connecting both to the computer and to the monitor - you can find the installed firmware of the adapter at Apple menu / About This Mac / More Info... / Hardware / Graphics/Display and scroll down to see if it the 1.01, 1.02 or 1.03. Only the 1/03 works reliably with the non-Apple branded 2560 x 1600 monitors.

Now - you can go and hassle with the Apple Geniuses at the Apple Store. The product has 1 year warranty and _should_ be replaced by them (good luck with that - I had to go several times to them to find someone willing to exchange and open the box and install the adapter and check that is the 1.03 firmware...)

Overall it finally works (I have two), but only with the 1.03 firmware.

2.0 out of 5 stars Once a must-read, now a passable reference book, June 24, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The text is patriarchal. "I do", "I believe", "I think" prevails. He's the grandpa of electrophysiology, but I think he should retire from writing books. Better alternatives exist (Clinical Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology: A Companion to Braunwald's Heart Disease: Expert Consult: Online and Print (Expert Consult Title: Online + Print), Catheter Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias: A Practical Approach, Handbook of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Catheter Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias. If you like the comprehensive approach, go for Cardiac Electrophysiology: From Cell to Bedside: Expert Consult - Online and Print, by far THE reference book in EP.

Let the old man (and his obsolete book) retire in peace and stop haunt the EP fellows' nights.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning - no hinge!, June 15, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I know the description mentions "four-point mounting system to hold Kindle DX in place". Read between the lines: there is no hinge - just straps at the edges. I pre-ordered - it arrived today - it's beautiful (like the one for the Kindle 2) but the one for the small Kindle has the Amazon-type hinge, the one for DX has just the elastic straps.

That is weird - because the Kindle DX being heavier might need a tighter support. I'm very disappointed (but returning it will not recoup the shipping charges). M-edge goes thru continuous revision of their products. I ordered in the past a cover for the Kindle 1 that had a terrible closing strap. They redesigned it subsequently to a more effective one. Note to myself - never order first generation of products. I expect M-edge to adapt the Amazon hinge to this cover too in subsequent revisions so until then - stick with the Amazon cover for the DX. It's nice, magnetic closure etc. Same price, less shiny and less nice leather, but thinner and with a firm closure. Ah - and with a HINGE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable entry-level OpenGL Card, November 28, 2000
Reasonable entry-level card. Good NT and Win2k drivers (frequently updated). However - benefits more from an Intel processor than from an Athlon (the driver is SSE-enabled). There is a comparative ... about this card on AMD and intel platforms - that shows an anoying decrease in performance on the AMD processors. Otherwise - good card - with suppot on any major 3D applications. Problems in the multi-monitor mode (in an AGP and PCI combination of Oxygen cards - only the primary adapter is OpenGL enabled). To learn major OpenGL apps, it is worthwhile. To do large models with complex structures - you will need soon an upgrade.
