5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorites, June 8, 2001
I'm surprised when I talk to so many people who haven't seen this movie. The storyline and special effects are absolutely remarkable. The DVD also has some nice extras - including English overdubs for people who don't like subtitles. This is a DVD you don't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding compositions and bass playing, March 12, 2001
This review is from: Word of Mouth (Audio CD)
This album has mixed reviews, which is really pretty unbelievable. Not only does this album show Jaco's unbelievable skills on bass (Chromatic Fantasy, Blackbird), it also shows his outstanding abilities in the areas of composition (3 Views Of A Secret, John & Mary).
Don't listen to the naysayers. '3 Views of A Secret' is one of my favorite compositions of all time - and definitely worth the price of this cd by itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding live recording, March 12, 2001
This review is from: The Birthday Concert (Audio CD)
Most Jaco postmortem releases were huge disappointments - released by greedy people with lousy recordings of Jaco during his distressed years.
Not this one - this is Jaco at his finest, with an all-star band and great recording crew. Jaco fans will get a lot of enjoyment out of this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible solo effort, January 2, 2001
This review is from: Tore Down House (Audio CD)
Scott Henderson lays down some serious blues on this album. "Dolemite" is just incredible, "I Hate You" is brilliantly funny, and Jaco Pastorius' "Continuum" remake is the best I've ever heard - faithful to Jaco's arranging style while adding Henderson's own flavor. Tribal Tech fans will love this album, as will anyone who loves great, clean blues from one of the greatest guitarists around.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Joni Mitchell's best, January 2, 2001
This review is from: Hejira (Audio CD)
This CD is absolutely incredible! Not only are the compositions and arrangements perhaps the best ever by Joni Mitchell, bassist Jaco Pastorius plays some of his best, most lyrical lines on this album - perfectly complimenting the vocals.
Coyote, Amelia, and Refuge of the Roads are my favorite tracks. If you are either a Joni Mitchell or Jaco Pastorius fan and have not picked up this CD, you definitely won't be dissappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb animation and storyline, December 21, 2000
This review is from: Tarzan (DVD)
This is one of our family's favorite DVDs. After originally seeing this movie in the theater, we couldn't wait for the release on DVD. The animation quality is among the best ever, as is the storyline and sound/music.
Our kids absolutely love this movie, as does the biggest kid of all - me. Highly recommended.

The 11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding

2.0 out of 5 stars Questionnable book, December 20, 2000
This book, conveniently adding the word "Internet" to a title of a previous book has some hideous mistakes in it. First, the site DRKoop.com is represented as JRKoop.com - how can the authors and editors miss that? Plus, the site FogDog.com is another - listed as FrogDog.com. For a book to boldly label itself as an Internet survival guide of sorts, you'd hope they could demonstrate some better knowledge of the net.
This book also makes some pretty bold statements that would be better placed on a discussion forum somewhere - they are sure to be questionned and disputed. If you are looking for a good branding book, read Al Rie's book from 1980 - Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading - for inspiration, December 19, 2000
Like Godin's previous book, Permission Marketing, I found this book to inspire ideas, rather than give them. Godin has a knack for making people think - though I'm wondering if that was the intent with these books. If you are looking for definitive answers to business and marketing questions, steer clear of this one. If you are looking for a book that will get you thinking about the applications of viral marketing, then pick up a copy. Godin's e-mail newsletter is worth subscribing to and you can pick up a copy of the book at his web site as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, December 19, 2000
These movies were made for DVD - and thank goodness. We've watched them so many times, VHS tapes would have long ago worn out. Toy Story 2 is just amazing - it is direct from the original digital source, and the picture and sound quality are better than anything I've ever seen on DVD. Plus, both movies have a great story line.
The third disc seems pretty gimmicky, but it just doesn't matter. These movies are historic and will endure the tests of time (and technology).

Merrick (Vampire Chronicles)
Merrick (Vampire Chronicles)
by Anne Rice
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $20.95
585 used & new from $0.01

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the Vampire Chronicles, December 19, 2000
This isn't Rice's best - it feels as if she is setting up for something big in the next release. The first 100 pages or so were tough, but once she got into the groove, this book was a fast read I couldn't put down. This book blends two story lines together - tying together Rice's Witch series with the Vampire one. Definitely worth a read, but not the best from one of my favorite authors.
