3.0 out of 5 stars Not for a Note 4 in an Otterbox Defender., March 1, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It is a very tight fit for a Note 4 in an Otterbox Defender. Not even close if you want the top to close.

It fits, but it is so tight it is a struggle to get it out and the flap does not fully shut.

There is a magnet, but it is not strong enough to keep it shut. There is absolutely no way the leather will ever stretch enough to close.

Since it was not worth returning, I cut off the flap, sewed it where I cut it and I removed the middle metal clip and cut about 1/32th of an inch into the top of the elastic and rely on the tight fit to keep the phone in place. Since I can push up from below, the tight fit is not a big issue anymore. So far, two days later I do not regret my hacks to make it work for me and I am still using it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, January 30, 2015

I have been using this for 9 months now and I have been a programmer for 25 years now and this is my favorite setup so far.

I have had issues with mice in the past and wrist pain, but never before liked trackballs.

So far, I am liking this one very much. No wrist pain whatsoever, tho it took a while for me to get used to it, and no more need to keep cleaning my desk and leaving a lot of space for optimal performance.

I am prompted now to write this review because the ball started sticking recently and started to annoy me until I learned today how to get it back to tip top shape. You can simply pop the ball out by pushing it up from below, clean both the ball and the socket, oil the ball a bit and pop it back in.

I can now fling the cursor across all three large screens with one spin and I notice no friction at all. I used Windex to clean it, others recommend Rain-X to seal the pores. I used oil from my forehead (which seems to be the single most common method I have found), others use a light machine oil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works very well, January 13, 2015

I am using this in a 2009 Lenovo ThinkCenter M92p in it's PCI Express x16 graphics card slot.

Until now, I had been using an eSATA external drive attached to an internal SATA port for many years now powered by a Mini-USB port, but that drive is failing and USB 3.0 drives are everywhere now and cheap and powered by the same cable.

After many tests on 3 different external devices copying the same folder up and down each drive several times, I can say with confidence that this card is giving me almost exactly 3 times the throughput as my USB 2.0 ports (the folder copies over in 1/3rd the time) and the folder copies exactly as fast to/from my new USB 3.0 drive as it does to my old eSATA drive. Very good news.

My old USB 3.0 port = 23 MB/sec (183 seconds to copy 4.13GB - 12 files in all)
My new USB 3.0 port = 66 MB/sec (63 seconds to copy that same 4.13GB folder)

I never use my ROM drive, so I used that power cable and used the Y cable they provided as an extension cord.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read for the 9 to 13 year old., December 23, 2014

This review is from: The Real Boy (Kindle Edition)
A 10 year old's review.
Even tho not originally interested in wizards, as I read it, it found it very interesting.
I liked how he snuck into the library every night to understand something that he had heard about earlier that day.
I liked how he stood up to his master about cutting down the wizard trees.
There was no swearing or needless violence, but the monster can be a bit scary and someone nearly drowns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Comfortable, December 13, 2014

This review is from: Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Dream Mattress
I now have the 2014 (this NeoAir version) and the 2011 and the 2008 versions of the Therm-a-Rest Dreamtime Mattresses.

I like this one the best as it has all the features of the others that I liked, but also rolls up to 1/2 the size.

It does make a bit of a crinkle noise that the older ones did not, however it is not enough of an issue for me to even knock 1 star off in my mind. I suspect that the reason it has an R factor of 6 is due to the material they used which makes the crinkle noise. The older ones had an R factor of 8 and 9, but were far bulker. We used an standard queen sized air mattress our first year but never again as they suck the heat away from your body making it difficult to sleep when it is 40 degrees outside. I'd rather have a slightly noisy insulated mattress instead.

There are straps underneath to put two XLs together to make a standard queen sized mattress which is very handy if you want to use a common sized heated mattress pad and sheets. This was the main reason I prefer the Dreamtime series over any other camping pad out there.

The Dream is perhaps the only mattress that Therm-a-Rest makes that has straps at the end attached to the mattress to hold it in its rolled up form. Very convenient.

The Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Torrent Pump will fill it up to about 90% in about 2.5 minutes and then it pops off, so you kinda have to keep in ear shot as it inflates to catch it before it deflates again.

There is only 1 nozzle in the NeoAir Dream. I liked the 2 nozzles of the older designs as it deflates faster, but again not enough of an issue to knock off a star.

It comes with an "instant field repair kit."

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for your USB port, December 6, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In my mind, wireless charging is a must have because the somewhat fragile MicroUSB port has a probability of something getting bent out of shape with you plugging it in daily for 5 years.

I love the Note 4's wired 9v Fast Charging option, however I seldom need fast charging. Placing my phone on my Qi charger every night takes only a moment and places no wear and tear on my USB port.

The thicker back is a problem however if you have a protective case.

It takes some work, but I can still get my Note 4 into my Otterbox Defender case.

The only way I could get the volume keys to work properly was to remove the screen protector (replacing it with a normal one cut to not go under the plastic case) and also removing that thin layer of foam inside the plastic part of the case.

The plastic tabs do not snap shut, however I can still get the rubberized outer skin into place so it is still as protected as before I would think. I did the same for my S4 and I never had a reason to believe it was a problem.

Tho I am curious why "card coils" only have 3 connections to the phone while the Samsung branded back uses 6 connection points. I wondered if they planned to have a 9v wireless charging option at some point (that would be so easy to do and so cool), however based on the comments below, maybe not.

I am still using the same Verizon branded Qi charger I bought 2 years. It is about the same size as my Note 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Review, November 28, 2014

It is worth it as a long term investment... beautiful illustrations and stories worth reading to your kids and works well on the Android App, however it does not display properly on the following platforms: iPad, Cloud Reader, Windows 8 Reader.
Within each paragraph, the text is printed on top of each other like it is performing a 1/4 space line feed.
It overlaps even in zoom mode making it impossible to read.

I kept it because it was on sale for $2 and I have hope that it will be fixed in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Standing Champion of protective cases, November 7, 2014

As usual, OtterBox did a good job with this case and it protects my Note 4 just as well as it has my previous phones.

One note would be that the plastic case seems more snug than my previous phones. It takes a decent amount of force to snap it closed on all four sides. All the ports are available and buttons are working well.

With the Samsung branded Qi wireless charging back in place however, I could not get the tabs to snap shut, nor would the volume keys work until I removed both the built in screen protector (which I did not care for anyway) AND the inner foam backing. With both of those removed, it now fits very nicely. It still does not snap shut but the buttons work just fine and seems to fit perfectly.

One big star off for the Belt-clip holster. Like previous models, this one fell off my belt onto the concrete 3 times in the first two weeks. I tried switching to a leather holster with closed belt loops, but that fell apart, so I went back to the Otterbox holster but added a couple of rubber hair bands so that I can slide my belt thru these loops and it has not come off since.

So far, my Note4, in it's Defender case, has already been dropped several times with no ill effect on the phone at all.

I have tossed my previous phone, an S4, in its Defender case to the ground many times just to demonstrate its protective abilities to others and 2 years later it still works perfectly.

Like the Defender on my S4, I removed the plastic screen protector and instead use one that affixes to the phone's glass for 4 reasons...
1) to keep the phone usable should the glass brake
2) the phone was just not as responsive as it should be and I think the small gap was to blame
3) I occasionally saw moisture between the plastic screen and the glass which would not be there if the screen protector were affixed
4) cutting the new screen protector to keep it from going under the plastic gives me another millimeter of space for this tight fitting case.

I have a Note 4 in a Otterbox Defender case and it is a very tight fit getting it into this leather pouch. Hopefully the leather will give a bit over time and it will be easer to get the phone in and out of this pouch, but I am doubting it as there is a short stretch of elastic on either side. The Note 3 and Note 4 are nearly identical in size, so I hoped this would work.

Update: Only 3 weeks of usage and it is already coming apart in several different places. The stitching of the elastic to the leather and the belt loops are pulling out and are no longer trustworthy. It is much lower quality than this Kuteck case: Kuteck® Black Leather Belt Holster Pouch Clip Fits For Samsung Galaxy S4 S3 Otterbox / Lifeproof / Mophie Juice Pack Air/Plus Case On.
