4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of speedy memory cheap., April 14, 2014

I bought this card so I'd have a voluminous card for recording HD video from a Panasonic GH3 camera. It was inexpensive, has worked perfectly and I have experienced no glitches, failures of stumbles. I would order another one. I give it only five stars because I like cards but I do not love them. The card is not exceptional it just does its job well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a beautiful book, wonderfully seen and endlessly captivating., April 14, 2014
My review is long overdue. I've had this book on my shelf for nearly half a year and I keep pulling it down and savoring the images. This morning, over coffee I was lingering over an image of a snow covered campus and I could almost feel myself in the scene. That's when I knew I had to write a review. As a photographer myself the thing that amazes me is that the photographer, Lenny Pridatko, had the endurance to return time after time to record the buildings on the Columbia University campus not just in post card weary, bright sun light, but throughout the seasons and at all different times of day and night. You can see the tremendous difference this ongoing access has when you see one of the beautifully printed spreads in the book that have a night time shot of an beautiful building on the left page, seemingly lit from within, (no people anywhere in sight) and then, on the right page you have an image from the same vantage point with the building in full sun and surrounded by college students and the frenetic pace of campus life.

Another favorite juxtaposition is of a building at dusk, beautifully lit up and obviously shot in a warm month (the grass in front is emerald green...) and on the facing page is the same building, shot in the same kind of dusky light but in the middle of winter with everything covered in snow.

If you attended Columbia University I would consider this book a "must have." If you live in New York City I would say the same. Even as an Austin native the book inspires me because of its mastery of architectural photography. I would go so far as to say that if you are an architectural photographer this could be a very inspiring source book on what can be done.

The book itself is large enough to really show off the images and is printed beautifully. It's one of my favorites to pull off the shelf and just browse. I love finding new things in the details of the images. In all, one of the best books of its kind extant. I am happy to own it.

Congratulations to Mr. Pridatko for creating a beautiful resource.

These batteries work perfectly, hold the same charge as the camera branded battery and are a bargain. I've bought for different sets of Wasabi Power batteries in the last two years and have had good luck with all of them. I recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most fun camera I bought in 2013., December 31, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought the G6 with lens when the price was temporarily at $498. It was ridiculous not to buy the camera at that price. It's small and light, works very, very well and has a very easy to learn menu structure. The m4;3 sensor is very high quality and the only thing this camera gives up to larger cameras is noise reduction at very high ISOs. It's video quality is better than my $2800 Sony a99, the batteries (same as the GH2) last for a very long time and the electronic viewfinder is of a very high quality for a product in this price range. It's a winner all around. As I was walking around shooting with it this afternoon I actually thought I might want to buy a second one in order to be able to shoot assignments without having to change lenses or go back and forth between different camera menus. It's that good. Perfect travel camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's tiny and it works., December 23, 2013

It's not a bad lens for the money and the I.S. does what it is supposed to. I like kit lenses because they have a good price to performance ratio and this is one of the better ones I've used. Nice enough even wide open.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful lens for the size and price., December 23, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought it to use on a GH3 and a G6. For the size and price it performs very well. It's a good lens for bright work but you'll want a faster (bigger aperture) lens for interior work. They aren't available in this price range. This one works well for everything else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny. I thought I'd like the images more..., December 23, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'll admit that I bought the book because I loved the image on the front cover and looked forward to a rich selection of great work. I've also seen commercial work by Gregory Heisler for, well, decades and liked 95% of it. So the book arrived and I made a cup of coffee and sat down to look through. Of the 50 images there was a percentage that were interesting by dint of having a biographically interesting subject in the frame. Some were technically interesting because we see so little large format portraiture these days. But the rest were not very compelling. I liked a lot of what Heisler wrote about equipment selection and how it influences the way we see. But I wish the work reflected the philosophical underpinnings of the writing. I'm keeping the book in hopes that the images grow on me. But I can't help but think that Heisler would have been better served by selecting 50 of his most famous commercial images and showcasing them instead. In the back of my head I keep thinking that part of my dissatisfaction is that these images are probably fantastic in their original form as large, black and white silver prints and that their transformation into grayscale book illustrations has robbed them of a good portion of their power.

My final beef transcends Heisler, but he is guilty of re-telling the same tale as so many others.... "I only got XX minutes with XXXX and this is what we were able to do...." I've worked in the business for nearly 30 years and, yes, there are some short deadline jobs where you don't get all the time you'd want with a subject but part of being an artist is the requirement to push back. I remember assisting my friend Will Van Overbeek. A newly minted billionaire was our subject and his PR people announced that, A. Mr. Celebrity could give the photographer seven minutes. And that B. even though we were three miles away they want to be able to see the UT Tower out the window. Will argued for a second and then asked me to start packing up. We packed up the gear. The PR people got flustered and demanded to know what was going on. Will told them calmly that he worked for the magazine, not for their boss. If they wanted him on the upcoming business magazine cover they would have to do it his way. They relented and he got the shot he wanted.

To sum up....the book is definitely worth its very reasonable asking price. Could it have been better? Maybe. If you love portraits it's one more resource that, in the balance adds value to your store of knowledge. At least it does in my case. I just don't buy that every shoot must be done in a rush.

5.0 out of 5 stars lots of distortion but sharp as can be., December 23, 2013

You can fix most of the distortion in post processing but the thing that sells this lens is the sharpness. And the price. With video at 16:9 most of the worst distortion issues fall outside the frame...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works and not much else to say., October 3, 2013

I bought this because my Samsung Galaxy NX is the first interchangeable lens camera I've owned that requires microSD cards. The adapter and card also work in my Sony and Pentax cameras. It's reasonably fast and I've been able to record HD video on it. What more can I ask for
