I read this book twenty-five years ago. Reading it again was a revelation. Its clarity and singular rigor in analyzing the processes by which real consciousness about true nature of civil and political structures in the world come into being and can be changed, and overturned, is penetrating and very moving.

1.0 out of 5 stars If a biography which was meant to coincide with Mr ..., November 24, 2014
If a biography which was meant to coincide with Mr. Cosby's "comeback" cannot bring itself to deal with what turns out to have been common knowledge for years about the subject--that he was a serial rapist--the book and the biographer can claim no mantle to a serious biography.

The publisher should recall an pulp the book

1.0 out of 5 stars PEOPLE: PLEASE GIVE CREDENCE TO THE ONE AND TWO STAR REVIEWS: DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE! DON'T!, February 14, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The single worst printer I have ever bought. I wanted something that didn't look like the usual printer pile and was convinced by the positive reviewers to give it a try. Big mistake. Please, do not buy this machine even if you are tempted to disregard the lower reviews. You'll regret it. I sure do.

There must be serious quality control issues with the production of this printer for there to be such a split in opinion. All I can say is that HP is making enough "lemon" versions of this printer that it's simply not worth the risk and the "sleek" design elements are not so sleek that you should think you're missing something extraordinary if you get yourself a different, better printer. Also, the availability of significantly discounted "new" or "like new" units tells you that more than a few are coming right back to retailers and distributors.

I got "paper jams" the first time I tried to print. Not even the test paper would print. I was on the phone for an hour to HP support and he finally got it to print.

I got ten pages printed..."paper jam" again but no paper jammed.

It looks nice but is entirely "form over function." It's heavy as hell....compact but must weight 20 pounds and the slick surface is a target for dust and fingerprints.

Now the "front paper tray" is jammed. I'm done. Going back to the seller and going back to my perfectly fine, just slightly bulky, Canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, pretty and reliable..., November 27, 2013

I'm not a gamer or a tech.

I had bought several low to mid-priced PCs over the last few years, convinced that I'd never have to buy another one because the PC technology would rapidly disappear. It may be disappearing but the "build quality" of those lower-priced PCs was atrocious and they disappeared before PCs as a class did.

I didn't want to spend $2,000 on a Mac-anything but I realized I needed to go higher end with a PC. This one seems to be a keeper, Looks kinda "Macish" with the back-lit keyboard, unbelievably sharp touch screen, easy keyboard (I feel none of the "flex" that others have complained about) and fast boot and switching between programs and apps. I was not initially a fan of Windows 8 but after a week of playing around with it, resetting some defaults, dumping some bloatware and just getting the feel for it I find it useful and intuitive. I had no problem upgrading to 8.1--fast and faultless.

If you want a quality PC but don't want to spend and extra $1,000 for the Mac nameplate give this PC strong consideration.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does what it does well, November 26, 2013

It is what it is and it does it well. It's a simple scale that give accurate weight (I compared it right after a doctor's appointment and it was "spot on"). Nothing fancy but it works, it looks good and the price was right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucid and elegant retelling of the story, November 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
With all the resonance of the 50th anniversary of the assassination in the background I wanted to read about what happened when I was eight years old--it is the first fully formed memory I have of something outside my family or school life. Clearly and passionately written, erudite and complete, it is a dramatic retelling of the days leading up to and after Kennedy's murder.

If you are a "assassination conspiratorialist" you won't like the book. If you want a lucid account, you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's just a vacuum cleaner but it's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had, July 8, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's portable. It holds a charge. It stores easily. It is flexible. It is powerful. It cleans my one bedroom apartment thoroughly. The filter is easy to empty and clean and doesn't need to be replaced. It is ergonomic. It is light. It is powerful. It has lovely design. It's just a very, very good vacuum cleaner for people who don't need or want a large semi-industrial machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and well written account of a subject I'd not considered fully..., March 14, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The author writes clearly about the basis for solitary confinement, from a philosophical and historical perspective, that provided me with material for reflecting on how incarceration and punishment in the American criminal justice system are designed. I recommend the book for anyone who has ever thought about the American penal system and what the consequences are for a society that adopts the sort of practices described in this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't imagine spending any real money for a toothbrush but spend a little more and be happy..., March 12, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Perfectly OK. Just not very good. I gather the battery power on these things is not great but it can't be a lot worse than this one...it needs a long recharging once a week, at least. The action on the head is weak, too--I know you're not supposed to press down with toothbrushes but the motor just about stops with the least rotation.

Spend a little more and get a little more. I just ordered the 3000 and consider the 1000 a not-too-expensive lesson/introduction to the world of electric toothbrushes.
