5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!, March 7, 2014
This is an edge of your seat, nail biting thriller. I'm a big fan of Phineas Troutt, and this pairing of Phin and Joshua Simcox's Macklin Dailey is fantastic. A well-done, wonderfully executed story. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Read!, February 20, 2014

This, the second in the Gavin English series, is a thrilling, gripping read. High tension kept me turning the pages, and Lindsey's snappy, crisp dialogue often had me smiling. This is a mystery/thriller, which is not an easy combination for a writer to pull off, but Lindsey makes it look easy.

This classically hard-boiled detective story mixed with modern urban grit is a fun, suspenseful ride worth taking!

This is a thrilling, funny pairing off Konrath's classic heroine Jack Daniels and Ken Lindsey's tough and quirky private detective Gavin English. I loved it, and will be picking up more of Lindsey's books. Nicely done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss This One!, July 3, 2012

I bought this book because I loved the cover, and thought I'd give it a try. SO glad I did.

This is a truly exceptional mystery which completely hooked me. The characters are well-drawn, wonderfully flawed, and complex.

Homicide Detective Merek Okerlund comes home to raise his daughter after tragedy strikes, and is welcomed literally by a dead body in the snow. His work begins on the spot, and is made difficult by a blizzard, family ties, family reputation, and town prejudices. This story is cleverly woven and skillfully written. Things are not as they seem. The story twists and turns, and characters struggle with doing the right thing, when the right thing wars with friendship and loyalty.

This story is an outstanding police procedural. It is atmospheric, brilliantly plotted, and passionate. I can't wait for the next in this series.

VERY highly recommended!

This action packed thriller is told though the voice of Jessie Cutler, an ambitious banker who inherits V.I.P client and millionare Richard Steele from her supervisor. Jessie finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time she witnesses Steele and a mysterious man in a gun fight. The gunfight ends in Steel and the man coldly shooting their adversaries in the head after their car crashes. Jessie realizes that Steele is more than he seems, and is invovled in some pretty shady dealings.

Things go from bad to worse as Jessie tries do the right thing. Each move she makes results in her life and the lives of others being put in jeopardy. This is a classic thriller, with the stakes rising higher with every move Jessie makes. Almost impossible to put down, this book keeps you turning the pages. Jessie must rely on her wits, courage and every resource to fight her way out of the bad situation she finds herself in.

Jeff Mariotte has, as always, created sharp characters and a tight, skillfully paced plot. Do not miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy Little Horror Story, October 26, 2011
This review is from: Soulless Light (Paperback)
This story is not for the meek. A chilling story about the mass murder of a village in the 1300s in the name of religion. The villagers are slaughtered after being falsely accused of practicing witchcraft. The soul of Julia, a young midwife's apprentice, is so outraged at the atrocity that she seeks revenge, after death, on the knights who massacred her village.

This story is a dark, spooky and thrilling read. Horror fans will be delighted by the creepiness of it. Gripping, unique, imaginative and relentless. Well done, Joann!
