From the opening chords of "Twice as Hard," the listener is grabbed,Bitch-slapped & left to contemplate what an important signpost in contemporary Rock this album truly is. Ostensibly the Brothers Robinson Band (Extrovert Front man Chris & younger sibling Rich on Lead Guitar),the record, released early 1990,has strong seventies influences (Faces,Stones,Aerosmith), while blending a ballsier/1990s originality. The southern drawl in Chris' vocal & tracks like Hard to Handle & Struttin' Blues, identify the Band's southern roots. A highlight on many songs are the romping piano of Ed H. & the raunchy female backing harmonies. Basically it's a Great listen from start to finish

(loud, naturally) - particularly the first 3 tracks. But my all-time favourite song, sober or Blind Drunk is "Sister Luck" . . . from my Number #1 Album; resurrecting Rock music from the depths it plummetted to during the 80s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Riffin' Blues, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Cracked Rear View (Audio CD)
This CD's real easy to listen to. I bought it purely for the
single "Let Her Cry" but the rest of the album is sensational.
The opening 3 Tracks set the tone. But 2 of the latter numbers,Bluesy "Look Away" & the stripped-Bare Ballad "Goodbye"
are awesome stand-outs. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my Favorite Album., June 7, 2005
Of all the records ever recorded, this goes down as the very best of the best. It's only short (8 songs)- as they were in those days (1971),but the album is easy to listen to,from start to finish. I'm 41 but I think people of all ages can get something out of this record. Few albums have stood the test of time so well.Maggie & Mandolin Wind are the stand-outs among a

bunch of real good Tunes. If some evil Being put a spell on me & I could only own 1 CD - This would be it. Second, maybe Free's

"Fire & Water".

Love this Band - always have. This CD & DVD are sensational.

Although much of the material is of the 70s - the songs have

stood the test of time well.Tequilla Sunrise & Hotel Cali are

a classic intro into the live stuff.Pretty Maids is cool,I can't tell you why is a highlight & NY Minute's moody.Joe's

"Help Me thru the night" is a stand out (DVD only).Great value

to old Fans like me,and New ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Phase II - solo., January 26, 2005
This review is from: No Brakes (Audio CD)
I'd heard some Babys & the single Missing You, But 3 years after the release of No Brakes (circa 88), a friend lent it to me & it blew me away. The other songs are Rockier.Saturday night's a good,up tempo opener & I love the last 4 Trax.

Missing You is still a Fave - with all it's images of the time.

This album turned me into a John Waite Fan - 'Nuff said.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still sounds Great!, December 5, 2004
Produced in 1987,this is probably John Mellancamp's finest moment.Loved it @ the time & most of the songs still cut it.

Down & out is James Brown with a Squeeze Box,Rooty Toot Toot is

Great ol' Rock'n'Roll,We are the people Rocks - Borrowing From

Springsteen, But Cherry Bomb is one of my all-Time Favourite

Tunes - all artists. A Feel-Good sing-a-Long anthem.

Superb.

Over time,I've tended to appreciate this album a little more
than the 1st,self-titled album. The singles (All the king's Horses & Live in peace - kind of Bad Co/Run with the pack
circa '86) are 2 good songs. My Faves are Dreamin' & Free to live. Good Rock album, reflecting that era. Both Firm albums
Better value than the Law.

A Natural progression from Zep/Bad co in the 70s. Brings back

great memories of 1985,Live Aid & Hopin' Zep would Reform.

Closer,the single Radioactive,(Bluesy) Money can't Buy &

Midnight Moonlight(sam Brown on backing vox) are the stand-outs.

Straight Shooter(Bad Co) & Fire & Water(Free) . . . This is

Better. Paul Rodgers - Enough said.
