4.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed, April 4, 2014

This review is from: Amazon Fire TV (Electronics)
My points of comparison are apps like netflix on wii and roku. The UI and remote are much easier and faster to use. Search works. It is extremely responsive when transitioning between apps. Picture quality is great. I tested an action game with the remote and it worked great. I can't wait for the controller to arrive. I'm very impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still the most used toy in our house after 3 years, November 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these in 2010. My kids have played with them more than any other toy and they have been used for every play date for the past 3 years. They build really creative things ranging from forts, skyscrapers, race cars, and robots. They have played with them from ages ranging from 3 to 9 years of age.

3.0 out of 5 stars If only the synch was reliable, October 4, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The design and usability of the pulse is pretty nice. But synching is slow and totally unreliable. It usually fails midway through. If phone sleeps it fails. Even if it gets 90%, none of the data is saved. You have to start at zero again. WIthout synch you can't view much useful data except steps for the day. But sleep data is inaccessible. I'll probably give it another 30 days and if Withing can't make it work, I'll need to abandon this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars real world advice on managing development teams, August 19, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found myself needing to build and manage a new offshore development team, split across three cities. If that doesn't qualify as "unmanageable" I don't know what does. Thankfully, Ron Lichty and Mickey Mantle were there to coach me along with their terrific book "Managing the Unmanageable." The book contains lots of concrete advice, explanations, and wisdom, plus a lot of first hand stories and examples. It also spends considerable time on soft skills such as understanding the different personality types on your team and how to leverage these differences. Most importantly though, their advice works. Three months into managing this team, our productivity is up over 200% and still climbing. "Managing the Unmanageable" is a book that I continue to turn to often.

5.0 out of 5 stars practical advice and detail, March 28, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lean analytics is a great book. It breaks down the metrics that matter most for different business models and provides some baseline metrics for those businesses plus valuable case studies to see how the numbers are used in action. Further, it is easy reading and structured so you can jump around to the elements that matter most to your business. Kudos to Croll and Yoskovitz. I only wish they had written this book sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for a short children's seder, March 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Our children ages 6 - 8 really enjoyed the "Joyous Haggadah". It has great illustrations and it does a nice job of telling the story of passover story. For me this last part was most important. In the past I used a more traditional haggadah read a separate book to tell the story. The problem I have with traditional haggadah's is they spend too much time on the symbolism of the seder and not enough on the actual story of deliverance from egypt. As some reviewers have noted, it is brief. I think it took us about 30 minutes. I find the short works best to keep the children engaged for the duration of the sedar.

Discover to Deliver: Agile Product Planning and Analysis
Discover to Deliver: Agile Product Planning and Analysis
by Ellen Gottesdiener
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful framework for ensuring product meets the user needs and an easy to follow case study, February 26, 2013
If you conceive, specify, build, or support software product, you should check out Discover to Deliver. The authors, Gottesdiener and Gorman cover a powerful process and framework for structuring the conversations between business, technology, and customers to ensure software products will meet the users and businesses needs and that the most valuable pieces will be delivered first.

The book uses a case study as the main vehicle for demonstrating the concepts. Gottesdiener and Gorman catalog seven product dimensions that all product designs must consider: Introduction, User, Interface, Action, Data, Control, Environment, and Quality Attributes. The authors then provide useful detail in how to elicit the requirements for each of the seven product dimensions, including visual tools to facilitate the conversations and get all stakeholders collaborating and aligned.

One of my favorite Gottesdiener and Gorman conventions is the three levels of detail used for planning, termed the “Big-View”, “Pre-View”, and “Now-View”, where the Now-View is the most detailed.

The final section of the book is an amazing collection of Tools and Techniques, everything from context diagrams, writing acceptance tests, personas, value stream mapping, and more. This is a great book for anyone involved in the creation of software systems.

2.0 out of 5 stars out of alignment, February 26, 2013

The manual hand drill works but it's out of center so you have to allow the handle to move from side to side to drill a hole without breaking the bit. This limited one my uses for it where I need to have kids drill holes through an aluminum jig. For showing the evolution of tools, this works fine.
