5.0 out of 5 stars A rare treat!, August 13, 2013

For Disney nostolgia fans, this is something you just can't miss, if you're able to find any original copies left. Disneyland USA from the Walt Disney Treasures series is truly a 'must have'. There are only four original TV specials. Two of them on each DVD. The first DVD is the premire episode of Walt Disney's long running prime time show from 1954 where he gives viewers a preview of his proposed new theme park in Anaheim, California. The second show is the actual live broadcast of Disneyland's grand opening celebration as it happened on live television in July of 1955 featuring big stars like Art Linkletter, Ronald Reagan, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and of course Walt Disney himself declaring the grand opening on that happy day. The second DVD has the 1962 "Disneyland After Dark" show that gives viewers a beautiful look at what the park looks like at night. Look for popular teen idols of the time like Bobby Rydell, and Annette Funicello. Plus, the historic TV debut of the singing little Osmond brothers before Donny even joined the group. Plus, legendary jazz great Louis Armstrong. The final TV special is a January 1965 broadcast of "Disneyland's 10th Anniversary Show", six months before the actual 10th anniversary date. Look for the cast of cartoon characters gathering around for the celebration, and watch a giant cake come to life before your eyes with dancing candles and everything. One other bonus feature is a gallery of photos and posters you can view on that DVD as well. If you like a copy of this true treasure, you may want to get it soon before they're all gone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Classic Album Of The Times In The 1960's., November 26, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Surrealistic Pillow (MP3 Music)
"Surrealistic Pillow" is a great work of art. The Jefferson Airplane was one of those many San Francisco groups that emerged during the era of the Summer of Love during the late 1960's. The album contained two Top 10 hits, "Somebody To Love" reaching #5, and "White Rabbit" reaching #8 on the Billboard Hot Singles chart. The album reached #3 on the Billboard Albums chart. Jerry Garcia from another San Francisco band, the Greatful Dead once said during the making of the album, "This is surrealistic as a pillow". Although he was never present during Jefferson Airplane's recording sessions, that was how the album got its title. Grace Slick, Marty Balin and Paul Kantner share vocals on various different songs on the album. Once you hear the tracks it has a great sound that will take you to the times of the West Coast sounds of that era, regardless if you were around those times or not. Other tracks like "She Has Funny Cars", and "Today" are well worth listening to. "Surrealistic Pillow" captures the psychedelic era of 1967 and still sounding great today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Double Album with a Double Heart., September 10, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spirit (MP3 Music)
"Spirit", originally a two record LP released by John Denver in 1976, the follow-up to many previously successful albums like "Windsong", "An Evening With John Denver", "Back Home Again" among other previous releases. The late singer and songwriter really delivers some deep emotions through these seventeen songs. One of the tracks, "Pegasus" features some children singing on backing vocals. It really gives you a happy feeling when you listen to it. Another track included on the album was "Like A Sad Song". It gives you a deep sadness when you listen to it. Even a remake of a Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby" is included too. "Spirit" sold well enough to go platinum and even hit the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. However, pop radio at the time wasn't giving much airplay to John Denver's music. One reason of fact, disco music was getting hot at the time. Another fact, the only top 40 hit from "Spirit" was the tear jerker, "Like A Sad Song" that probably turned a lot of radio listers off. Late 1976 sadly was a turning point for John Devnver as well. Since then, his singles were not charting well on the pop charts. It never recovered from that time. But John Denver's "Spirit" is a wonderful album. Take a good listen to it. It shows a great craft to John's work, and probably one of the best albums he ever made.
Too many young performers rely on high energy hip-hop club dance music in today's market. Right now, we need dedicated people like John Denver who can give us a sense of feeling and caring as he wanted to do, and share through his music.

In Christmas of 2009, I bought this Sandra Lee cookbook for my mother. She's read it and liked it a lot. My mother will use it to cook up some good recipies in the near future. They're a lot of other cookbooks out there from big names in food like Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagase just to name a few, but check out Sandra Lee's cookbooks like this one. There are a lot of healthy recipies to check out and cook at home too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Singing Talent Overlooked, But Great!, December 31, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hey, if you haven't been a fan of Stacy Lattisaw, you're missing out on some great material she has put out several years ago. She has a great voice, and puts a lot of heart and soul into that singing talent. If you listen to one of the tracks, "Let Me Be Your Angel", you'll know it by heart. Stacy Lattisaw didn't have much of a career on the pop charts. She only had three top 40 hits in the early 80's. Some other songs have probably charted on the Hot 100, but never made the top 40. She may have had better chart success on the R&B/Soul Top 40 charts. Her biggest pop success was from that hit as I just mentioned, "Let Me Be Your Angel" which peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Not too bad a chart peak when you come that close to the upper one-fifth of the survey. So next time if you're looking for good music, give this a listen. You'll feel happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Groovy Trip Back To The 70's., October 14, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"The Bugaloos" was the second series for television created by the great innovative minds of brothers Sid and Marty Krofft. They come from a talented family of puppeteers that go back five generations. Many years of creative shows Sid and Marty have done include putting on neighborhood puppet shows, and later did carnival shows on the road. The Krofft brothers got their first TV break when Dean Martin hired them to do various puppet sketches on his weekly NBC-TV show. NBC would give them their next big break when Hanna-Barbera Productions asked Sid and Marty to design the costumes for the network's new live action Saturday morning show, "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour". It was a big hit for NBC, and that helped pave the way for Sid and Marty Krofft's first TV production series again on NBC, "H.R. Pufnstuf". "The Bugaloos" was their follow-up show that also premired on NBC a year after "H.R. Pufnstuf". The series stared four British cast members, Carolyn Ellis, John Philpott, John McIndoe, and Wayne Laryea as four musical insects living happily in Tranquility Forest. Other cast members include Billy Barty as Sparky the firefly, former "Mickey Mouse Club" mouseketeer Sharon Baird as Funky Rat, and the funny talented Martha Raye as Benita Bizarre who tries in vain to wreck havoc on the Bugaloos. If you miss the innocent days of Saturday morning television like I do when there were no news programs to distract you, this is fun show to check out, and it takes you back forty years when Saturday morning was a fun place to temporarilly forget your troubles. Believe me. You'll enjoy it!

This DVD is a special Christmas episode of "The Captain and Tennille" ABC-TV weekly variety show that aired only one time in 1976. This rare show hasn't been seen again anywhere until it was released on DVD in 2007. Special celebrity guests include Tom Bosley of "Happy Days", funnyman Don Knotts, and musical guests the Pointer Sisters, as well as Toni Tennille's three sisters themselves! This rare find includes a lot of your favorite holiday songs like "Jingle Bells", "O Holy Night", a take on the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick", and much more!
Truly a priceless treasure for anyone who grew up in the 1970's when television was fun back then, especially during the Yultide Holiday season. Invite your family to watch this. It'll bring back simpler times and happier memories.

This review is from: Vulture Culture (Audio CD)
For you Alan Parsons Projcet fans out there, here is a great CD to check out! "Vulture Culture", their eighth album originally released in 1985. It's a concept album that's all about people taking advantege of other people at their expences. In other words like, the rich taking advantage of the poor. Think of today's news, and you'll know what I'm getting at. "Vulture Culture" is all about the world that has become more predatory. For example of the news today, big corporations, big oil, embezzlement, ponzy schemes, foreclosures, lack of trust, etc. etc.
Even what The A.P. Project was saying back in 1985, the songs have messages that still say of what the world has become today. In addition to the eight original tracks, there are five bonus tracks that include demos, alternate mixes, first takes and more giving you an inside depth of the making of "Vulture Culture".
The earlier years saw a lot of American radio play from The Alan Parsons Project, but what has become the way musical tastes were changing in the mid 1980's, "Vulture Culture" and later LP's would not match the success of their earlier albums and Top 40 radio stations were not playing Alan Parsons' music anymore in favor of other artists who have grabbed more attention in the spotlight.
Take a listen to "Vulture Culture" and judge for yourself if you think this should have gotten some radio airplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars More About Music Than Comedy., June 22, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For anyone a true fan of The Captain & Tennille, this is the true collectors' DVD set, a must for every fan who grew up in the late 1970's and early 1980's during the peak of the musical couple's career. After their ABC variety show was cancelled after one season, Toni Tennille and Daryl "The Captain" Dragon went on an exclusive tour to try and win back fans who weren't buying their records anymore, mainly because the weekly ABC television variety show nearly ruined their wholesome image. The silly comedy sketches they had to get involved in weren't their style and fans knew it the whole time. Despite all that, the couple did agree to do a few TV specials. One set in New Orleans, another set in Hawaii, and another just set in a simple stage studio. These TV specials focused a lot more on music and less comedy stuff. Musical guests on the three DVD set include Fats Domino, Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell, Ella Fitzgerald, B.B. King, among others with a little comic relief from Don Knotts and John Byner.
Toni and Daryl wanted to be known just for their musical talent, and to prove they were no "Sonny & Cher". The last TV special, "Songbook" was an entire show dedicated to music. That was the kind of show they always wanted to do because The Captain & Tennille was all about music and nothing else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Follow-ups not always easy., June 3, 2010

This review is from: Light of Smiles (Audio CD)
After the success of his first album "The Dream Weaver" in 1976 which included the #2 hits, the title track and "Love Is Alive", Gary Wright found it hard to follow-up success with his next album, "The Light Of Smiles". This CD has great sounding tracks plus one bonus track that give a listener great imagination because of the use of moog synthesisers and indian influenced music. "The Light Of Smiles" was released in either late 1976 or early 1977, and it was overlooked because of the direction pop music was going through at the time when the disco craze was sweeping America. This album should have gotten more promotion from TV and radio during its original release and it's a must-have for every Gary Wright fan out there, especially if you had the chance to see him in concert with Ringo Starr's All-Star Band.
