4.0 out of 5 stars Quick read but an interesting backstory to the TV series, September 12, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wasn't initially going to buy the prequel but I'm glad I did. It is nice to have backstories to the main characters, glimpses into how Max grew up outside Manticore, how she met Original Cindy and ended up in Seattle. It also shows how Logan guessed what Max was when they meet after this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyiable continuation of the TV series, September 12, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really enjoyed Skin Game, it was nice to have someone continue on from the series. I think the author has done a good job capturing most of the characters and expanding on the Dark Angel universe - there are some characters only glimpsed in Freak Nation or have been added that are interesting and a lot of fun. There are of course a few errors but overall this is done well. Only wish the book was longer and that I could read the final installment but for some strange reason After the Dark is not available in Australia on Amazon - hopefully that will change very soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars If only there were more Donna books, especially of this quality, April 23, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
By far the best Who book I've read so far. Captures the characters as we know them, while adding so much more to their stories, not only to Donna but Wilfred and Sylvia as well.. This a good story which is enhanced by the beatiful tie back to the end of Donna's travels with her skinny spaceman, it's a must for every Donna fan.
It is such a shame Donna has been had so few stories told, especially as she has to one of the most loved of the current run and a character that really leaps off the page. Wilfred is another fabulous character we should have had so much more of.
I have this story in hardcover, kindle and audio (Bernard Cribbins is lovely to listen to) and will also buy the 50th anniversary paperback, as it is one story my family and I just love to revist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, April 21, 2013

So much to read, or much to love. Much bigger than I expected. Fabulous swan song for the series, this shows just how much effort and thought went into the series. I feel like buying another just to keep one in perfect condition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much like Michael's usual books., April 21, 2013

Disappointing. Wasn't very reflective of the second Doctor or Doctor Who in general.Change a name or two and it could easily been from the Flamel series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, April 21, 2013

This is a great way to display Nano block creations but was a little disappointed with the lack of control. You can't stick to one colour and it is battery only, which is a shame. Not a bright as it could be. Delivery etc from the supplier was fantastic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea but poor layout for such a collectable item, November 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The concept behind this calendar is spot on, the use of the silhouettes is great but completely let down by the calendar layout and paper stock.

This is a collectors item, for fans, yet it misses the mark completely. I would have liked to have framed some or all the images, but with the dates (which are hard to read) overlapping the imagery and textured paper stock mean there is no point. As other reviewers have mentioned the dates should have been on a separate page, at the very least on the back on the next months image or if you really wanted to make this useable and collectable, the calendar would have been a completely separate page, perhaps as a translucent sheet so you could carefully write on it but not damage the images.

The paper stock has not added value, would have been okay on the cover and envelope, but it, along with the shortcuts taken in layout design, actually makes the calendar look cheap. The images aren't that easy to look at, it would have been much nicer on a gloss or satin finish.

My copies were supplied in a very large box with only paper packaging, leaving lots of movement, resulting in a lot of damage to the envelopes and a small amount to the calendar itself. As these were both gifts this was very disappointing.

We will enjoy the calendar for the year but it is useless as a functioning calendar and not a lot of use as a keepsake, which is such a shame as it could have been fantastic.

John's books are a great read for the early teens (or earlier if you enjoy family reading time). Parent's can feel very comfortable with the themes underscoring all of John's children's books, unusual hero's with unique skills using their brains to overcome adversity, good female roles (although it would be nice if we could see a new series with with a female in the prime role) and plenty of action to keep you child interested. While a quick, light read for adults or older children, these are still very enjoyable. I did enjoy the three book arc of this series and it was great to visit the Skandians again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful and great to have something local, October 17, 2012

An interesting book, with some great insights. It is nice to have a book that communicates in a very relevant way. All to often factual books relating to ASD are too complex - often good information can be lost. Combining the personal stories with the relevant information makes everything clearer and easier to follow. And with a number of families telling their stories, there was generally at least one that our family can relate to in each section.

I did find jumping around between people a little distracting sometimes, perhaps a bit more information on/from each family in one place would have been easier, but it is certainly good to hear a number of different experiences and to see how those experiences have changed their journey or outcomes. Especially interesting to me, is hearing stories that relate to how the system works here in Australia and how our lifestyle influences our experiences with ASD.

I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Thank you to Lyndel for giving the Australian story, I will be rereading this one and making lots of notes!
