1.0 out of 5 stars Not powerful enough, December 25, 2011
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
I expected better from Hot Wheels, but on the other hand, everything is made in China now... but I digress.

This thing just doesn't work right. The motor is nowhere near powerful enough to push the car throughout the loop and around the rest of the track. The instructions say that if this happens the batteries should be replaced. Well, after testing with several sets of brand new batteries, on both hard surfaces and carpet, we finally gave up. Pretty much lame.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute idea, poorly executed, January 19, 2011
I can see the potential here, a clever parody of Nickelback's "Rockstar," which itself is a song poking fun at the rock star lifestyle. So, a spoof of a spoof. I get it.

Unfortunately, while it was a cute idea, the execution is lacking. The vocals are consistently out of tune. I don't know whether the southern accent is real or if it's part of the humor. Is this a redneck poking fun at himself? Actual Country artists have ways of making their accents work for them, not against them. This guy sounds like he's trying too hard. Again, cute idea; poorly executed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flaking paint on Emperor Zurg!, January 30, 2010
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
Within a minute of the package being opened, the paint started flaking and peeling off of Zurg's cape. I've never had a problem with other Toy Story merchandise, but we're taking this Buddy Pack back to the store immediately. I guess I shouldn't really be surprised though, since nowadays all movie merchandise is pretty much slapped together in low-rent Chinese sweatshops. I just expected better from Disney and Mattel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Cute, but..., January 29, 2010
just like another reviewer mentioned, the velcro frayed away and came off. We too had our pair for around a month when this happened. I also glued the velcro back on and it worked for a temporary fix, but still frustrating (especially when you pay that much for infant shoes). I have twins and two older childern and have owned MANY pair of pedipeds, this is the first time I have seen this happen. Other than that the shoe fit my average sized son's foot.

Braun PocketGo P-70 Men's Shaver

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, convenient, but not for every day use, November 28, 2009
My job as a US Army Broadcast Journalist takes me to some rough parts of the world. While out on a week-long mission, as some guys are trying to either dry shave or make do with bottles of water, I've been able to whip out this shaver and get touched up for the day.

Keep in mind, though, the shaver's performance depends on your face. That's why I only gave it four stars. It gets my mustache area very well, but I can always feel some fine left over chin stubble. The shaver completely misses the hairs on my neck. Essentially, this shaver is a great back-up for when I can't shave with a blade.

It's easy to clean, and it's designed so it won't accidentally turn on. Battery life is decent, provided you don't use it as an every day shaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!, October 6, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a no-nonsense guide to producing documentaries with "any budget, any camera, any time." In addition to page after page of in-depth instruction, it's also full of pictures, illustrations, and diagrams that very much make producing documentaries clear and accessible. Granted, much of the advice is stuff I learned at the Defense Information School when I was trained to do my job as an Army Broadcaster. But the book is also proof that no matter how much you think you know, there's plenty more you can learn from others... especially from a guy like Artis, who has been making documentaries for years.

Making Documentary Films and Reality Videos: A Practical Guide to Planning, Filming, and Editing Documentaries of Real Events
Making Documentary Films and Reality Videos: A Practical Guide to Planning, Filming, and Editing Documentaries of Real Events
by Barry Hampe
Edition: Paperback
Price: $16.57
248 used & new from $0.01

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, in-depth, but there are better books out there, July 13, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hampe is clearly an experienced and skillful documentarian. The book has some great insight for overall technique with regard to planning, shooting, and interviewing.

But you know what would make this book a lot better? Illustrations and/or photos. Shooting technique is discussed but not shown. Editing technique is discussed but not shown. Ironically, Hampe spends a lot of time driving home the point that it's important to SHOW the action as opposed to relying on interviews and narration.

Another problem is that the book is grossly outdated. The updated version of the book is here: Making Documentary Films and Videos: A Practical Guide to Planning, Filming, and Editing Documentaries.

Hampe delves into his experiences of shooting on film throughout the 70's & 80's, and talks a bit about video. He seems to mention his own work quite a bit. One more thing: If Hampe refrained from needlessly repeating himself, the book would be half as thick.

I would recommend a far better book on documentary filmmaking, which is The Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide: A Down & Dirty DV Production

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good if you watch in the right mood, June 12, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guy X (DVD)
Beware: a few spoilers here...

I realize that the term "dark comedy" doesn't mean a barrel of laughs, so I wasn't expecting that. There are a few funny moments, however. Jason Biggs is underrated in this film, as it's a quality departure from the American Pie antics that made him famous.

More should have been shown of the conspiracy aspect with the Vietnam vets in the "ward." Throwing in a flashback or two to their experience in Vietnam would have explained a lot, although being an indie movie, the producer probably just didn't have the budget.

The film ends with very little closure, and the practically impossible idea that the the Soldiers could just fly off to other installations and assume the identities of random high-ranking officers. Seems like another case in which Hollywood makes the US Military look like a disorganized bunch of buffoons... whether they were trying to or not.

Overall, this is an interesting, well-acted film that had so much potential... until it was made.

The Y-cable does exactly what it's designed to do. It provides supplemental USB power to my portable hard drive. My old Dell needs all the help it can get, and this cable delivers.
