4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining enough., March 22, 2013
Don't remember if this was a free or low priced book but it was not a waste of time to read. Story did not hook me in to where I have to buy the next one when I get done with the review but may. Left with the impression that it needs to be fleshed out. Battlestar galactica light...

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this story., March 16, 2013
Love stories about horses. Well written. Would like to see the storyline expanded for what happens next. Who knows maybe it already has.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would be willing to pay more, December 30, 2012

Enjoyable story for a buck. Would be willing to pay for an editor to fix the line by line grammatical errors. At times you have to guess what was intended because it isn't what is on the page.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but okay, April 20, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cold Dead Fingers (Kindle Edition)
Decent read but very short, something to fill time while having a cup of coffee or waiting for a bus, better value than the coffee or the bus. The term fluff comes to mind in trying to describe it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be aware that this is a micro SD card, January 6, 2010

Even though the picture of this item indicates that it is a CD ROM, What you get is a micro SD card of the maps. This was okay as it was for a gift but the picture is not indicative of what you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 10, 2001
I bought the first and second book of the series years ago when first published. I have just finished reading them again. This is one of the few sci fi novels, that I recall, with a middle eastern flavor. Sure there are books like Dune out there but the feel is not the same. Overall an excellent choice, regardless of the fact that there may never be a conclusion to tie up the plot lines of the first and second book in the series, if you can find a copy. I am grateful to the author for responding that there is hope for a conclusion someday. Maybe the publishing community will recognize the value of this series and assist in its conclusion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, nothing special., September 12, 2001
This book would best be considered filler. As always it is well written and hints of things to come. I would recommend reading this only to those who enjoy the writing style of L.E. Modesitt Jr., or specifically the Recluce novels. I find no indication that this is anything other than a stand alone novel. Maybe I would be more excited if this was the first novel in a new trilogy but there is indication that it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something you can sink your teeth into., September 12, 2001
It may just be that this came out at a time when I really needed a book of substance; this ended up being completely enthralling.
Without giving away any of the plot.
The characters are clearly defined and the story focused. The greatest disappointment is that it ends and you are left waiting for an unidentified amount of time until the sequel is issued in paperback.
Basics are semi nomadic tribes, reminded me of the Viking types, are being influenced by the the cities to the south that have never been able to defeat them in straightforward confrontation. Cities influence internal politics that allow for the bad guy, mole type, to take over the tribe and the good guys to be kicked out. Start wandering and developing a following as the tribes become more and more enbroiled in conflict. Probably in future novels will come back and restore the equilibrium and independence of the tribes in some lesser consolidated form. All in all excellent.
In comparing it to other writing it is a lot like the first portion of "The Wheel of Time" series before it became lost in what appears to be publishing additional volumes because you can.
