5.0 out of 5 stars Handy guide for outdoors ..., July 22, 2014

Unless you are some sort of expert level survival guru outdoorsman, I would not dismiss this book out of hand with such cavalier attitude ... maybe then you should write your own survival guide.

This book is well laid out and detail oriented without going overboard. It gives lots of good information / overview in a small form factor. Definitely a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as well as Nikon ML-L3 remote for less money ..., July 22, 2014

Tried it with D5000, D5100, D90, D7000, and D7100 and works fine on all of them. It allows you the photographer to be in the group picture without having to use the timer, which can be fiddly if you want multiple shots. The range is not bad either, about 20 ft. max.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient, heavy and expensive, but great!, July 7, 2014
As lens designs go, this lens is the oldest among the Nikon DX line of lenses as well as being the most expensive, and 2nd heaviest (after porcine 18-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, which is a consumer grade lens).

Despite seemingly all the negative accolades, I just love what this lens can do in combination with my D7100. D7100's 24mp sensor really brings out the best in this lens. Great color, contrast, and bokeh. Sharp too! Build quality is on par with Nikon's 24-70 mm FX lens. It's overall IQ is almost as good as 24-70 mm f 2.8/D800 combo. I've used Nikon 18-200, 18-105, 18-55, 16-85 mm and Sigma 17-50 mm DX body lenses; this lens is hands down the best DX lens in terms of image quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great ... must read the instruction ..., June 25, 2014

This thing had butane in it when I got it. Just wondering how they got this thing through the customs if it was air freighted because I didn't wait a month to get it from China.

Build quality is just fair and its durability is questionable but it was only $8, much cheaper than my handheld torches. it works well too, although as another reviewer mentioned, it's tough to modulate the strength of the flame. There are 4 different switches, buttons, and toggles on this little thing. Be sure to read the instructions for using it properly.

I use this in my work melting wax but this thing would work great in the kitchen making creme brulee.

I'm always bit leary of 3rd party batteries but the low price always draws me in. It charged up fine and gotten as many clicks as the Nikon OEM battery thus far in moderate use. As for longevity, we'll see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it or hate it ... only game in town ..., June 23, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Definitely a polarizing product; there are alarmingly many 1 star as 5 stars. I have owned two of these (actually a similar, but bit larger model with hanging loop, which these don't have) and they've worked OK for past 7 - 8 years, without any problems. Yeah, the safety button seems unnecessarily redundant but it does't require Herculean effort as some have implied. The safety button as well as the on/off slide switch on this model is easier to push than the old model. Mine works fine with non-Zippo brand butane and have not failed to function in moderate use. I miss the fuel gauge like the old ones have, hence a loss of star. There is warning label that tells you to not use it for 4 hrs. after 1st fill or it might explode, LOL. No, if you wait a minute or two, it's fine.

If you want to go green, it seems to be the only game in town as I think some regulations while back made disposal ones not refillable anymore by removing the refueling tip. I've not seen any other brands of refillable butane lighters in this elongated shape, other than these Zippos. It is fairly well-made and I for one like these and this is my repeat purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well enough ..., May 27, 2014

For me, it works better as a voice amplifier than as a PA sound system playing music via USB connector. The buttons feel bit junky and the build quality is merely adequate overall but for around $40, I can't complain too much. The built-in siren feature can be annoying, but it's good for getting quick attention with a large crowd. It uses harder to find and sometimes more expensive C size batteries (versus D), but doing so makes it marginally lighter and smaller than ones using D size batteries. Still, this is somewhat heavy to handhold for a long time and the strap does come in handy with detachable mike.

Some people go overboard waxing poetic about the virtues of sharpening knives with the stone and how it's the only true way to sharpen knives and anyone who does it otherwise gets a pontifical sneer ... well, for the masses not attuned to the fine art of knife sharpening, this knife sharpener does a fine job, easily and quickly.

Adjustable angle feature is great and makes it much more versatile in being able to sharpen different type of knives for different purposes, not just kitchen knives. An excellent product at a great price.

I always wait with bated breath when trying out cheapo replacement batteries because they are bit of hit or miss in regards to compatibility, capacity and longevity. Therefore, when they work properly, I am elated. I recently scored a junky, but almost free refurb. Nikon J1 with the purchase of Light Room and did not want to spend a lot for Nikon brand battery.

I've put this inexpensive OEM replacement battery through the paces via several intense use and charge cycles and it has held up fine thus far. It puts out about same amount of shots as the OEM battery. As for the longevity, if I can get 2 yrs. of reliable use out of it, I'll be happy.
