4.0 out of 5 stars Great prices online, February 18, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Batteries can get pricey in stores, and it's a pleasure to find an online source for the same product as in stores but at a notably cheaper price. Of course, a person has to know ahead of time that a fresh battery is needed, and the customer must buy a five-pack when maybe only one or two are needed. Still, for the price, it's hard to beat.

Price: $6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good album, but their older stuff is better, September 3, 2011
This review is from: Scripted (MP3 Music)
I've been a fan of Icon For Hire since a little after "The Grey" EP came out, thanks to Anvil and the Hammer podcast. I liked the idea of a post-hardcore female-fronted band since as far as I know there isn't another Christian female-fronted post-hardcore band. And if there is I doubt they're as good as the older EPs were.
However, I am slightly disappointed overall with this full-length, mostly with their slight transition to more pop-oriented ground and the rather bad re-doing of the amazing song "Pernilla". "Only A Memory" is a great song by itself, but for those who have heard the original "Pernilla" it's no contest which is better. I understand their screamer/bass player (Josh Davis) is not with the band any more, but if they had gotten a guest appearance like a previous reviewer said, or perhaps one of them had been willing to scream, it would have been better. OR maybe they could have not re-done Pernilla in the first place! Sorry for the rant.
My only other problem other than that re-recording is the fact that they are putting a more synth-pop flavored sound into their music. I didn't at first realize why so many people were saying it sounds like it's been done before, the reason is obvious to me now, as no one is suffering from a lack of female-fronted pop/rock bands like Paramore. I do however still think it's unfair to compare them to the rather dark-sounding Flyleaf or the metal band Fireflight, as they are rather different sylistically. Had Icon For Hire kept their heavier, more post-hardcore-oriented sound, many fewer people would be saying that they have heard this before. Now is this a bad album? No, it is however not as original as this wonderful band could have done. The previous EPs they have released are great, and if you're looking for something that is somewhat fresh and original, but without being too much so, get this. Or if you simply want a great girl-fronted rock/post-hardcore/pop act check this out, in all honesty it really is a stellar record, and much better than most of what you'll hear on the radio these days, but if you've come expecting the old Icon For Hire, it may not be too far away, but I will give you a small warning anyway.
