5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly Beautiful, June 1, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Going into a Stevie Nicks record is probably one of my most pleasurable experiences with music. She always brings this sense of magic and the supernatural into her mystic songs.

"The Other Side Of The Mirror" is probably her darkest moment of her career, Think "Bella Donna", but more somber and Heavier. She was inspired by secluding herself in a Castle during the writing and recording process to bring this sense of desolation and enchantment to it. Well the process worked, because the result is one hell of a stunning album.

The Passionate "Rooms On Fire" just begs to be blasted from the speakers and sang from the top of your longs.

"Maybe i'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire, every time that you walk in the room, there is magic all around you if i do say so myself, i have know this longer than i've known you"

She feverently sings.

"Fire Burning" is a song very dear to me. It's about a girl whose soul is in such pain that she feels like she's drowing in her sorrow. Hence she starts to see fire everywhere. But it's only a reflection of how her heart feels. A knockout track for sure.

"Whole Lotta Trouble" is a heavy rock song that stands out immensly on this gorgeous album. If you were to blend the albums "The Wild Heart" and "Rock A Little". The result would be this incredible song. I love it.

"Ooh My Love" would best describe the process she went through being secluded in a castle to capture the mystic ambiance. It's a very emotional song about being in a castle with her lover and yet nothing between them is the same anymore. She recalls the times when their love would burn passionate behind the castle walls. This is my favorite song from the album and one of my all time favorite Stevie songs.

All in all "The Other Side Of The Mirror" is incredible. Stevie created magic here and it's truly an honor to listen to her music. She's one of the best song-writers of all time and the passion and emotion she evokes into each and every one of her songs with that bewitching voice is enchanting. She transports you to a whole other world.

My Top 5
1. Ooh My Love
2. Rooms On Fire
3. Doing The Best I Can (Escape From Berlin)
4. Ghosts
5. Long Way To Go

5.0 out of 5 stars No ? About It. I LOVE this album!, May 20, 2011
This review is from: Love? (Deluxe Version) (MP3 Music)
I have always been a huge fan of the ever so multi-talented Jennifer. She's had a very strong music career even though critics and haters a lot of times maligned her. Also her career has always had a great deal of sex appeal but she's always seemed to keep it so classy and fun, And i've always admired that about her. She returns this year with Love?
A Dance oreinted album full of great songs. "Rebirth" to me will always be my favorite English album of hers, but this one is also really great.

Another thing i also enjoy about this album is how consistent it is. No surprise there, all her albums have always had a strong sense of cohesion, where the songs blended and complimented eachother wonderfully. And i love Jennifer Lopez's dulcet voice. It's PERFECT for Pop Music, it has a strong urgency but yet not to overpowering. And for anyone who says Jennifer can't sing, well you're just claiming false and trite statement, because her gorgeous and majestic Spanish album "Como Ama Una Mujer" shows just how much her voice can soar, and how beautiful it really is. In fact, "Como Ama Una Mujer" is my favorite album of all time, and this is coming from someone who owns over 900 albums and whose favorite artists range from Stevie Nicks, Laura Branigan, Jewel, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchel, ect...

If you're a fan of J.Lo, this album won't dissapoint, It's not her strongest but it just might be her most fun and energetic one. So if you're barely getting to know her, this album is Perfect to start her career with. Next would be her incredible album "J.Lo" and then work your way from there.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this album!!!
It was incredibly difficult to choose favorites since all the songs are exceptional, but here they are

My Top 5
1. Until It Beats No More
2. Run The World
3. I'm Into You
4. Papi
5. Villain

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Sensual and Vulnerable, April 27, 2011
This review is from: This Is Me...Then (Audio CD)
This cd is incredible, I've been listening to it since 2002 and it still brings back all those emotions. People will hate, but Jennifer Lopez's music is some of the best that came out from mainstream in the 00's

She never overly sexed it up and sing about trash like others from that decade.

This album is awesome. It has this slow upbeat sensual tone to it, With great lyrics

My Top 5
1. I'm Glad
2. Still
3. The One
4. Dear Ben
5. Again

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible - Jewel further establishes herself as one of the Greatest Songwriter, March 9, 2011
I've owned this album since it came out in 2006. After 5 years of listening to it, I'm able to review it more precisly now that I've gotten to know each song better and enjoyed and comprehended it's true genius.
Jewel has become one of the greatest song writers of our time. She's up there in the ranks of Stevie Nicks. "Goodbye Alice In Wonderland" almost has qualities of Joni Mitchell, as how the album is so autobiographical, each track less of a song, and more of a story. Her voice is as pure and raw as it's ever been.
I absolutely love this album, Jewel completely outdid herself and made me love her even more. The lyrics are real, intelligent, poetic and gorgeously sung. Every track is an absolute winner!

My Top 5
1. Goodbye Alice In Wonderland
2. Last Dance Rodeo
3. Stephenville, TX
4. Again And Again
5. Drive To You

5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Gaga this generation's Mother Teresa, February 18, 2011
This review is from: Born This Way (MP3 Music)
Wether donating millions of dollars to help Haiti, getting politicaly involved to fight for equality in this country or helping raise 34 million to fight AIDS in 2010, Lady Gaga has become a great ambassador for change and awareness. She returns with her massive single off her second studio album "Born This Way".

It's an energetic thumping track full of synths, glitter and gospel thrown everywhere. An anthem of empowerement and self validation to realize your own self worth and to love yourself.

Overall it's a great song and i hope my neighbors like it cause i'll be blasting this song non-stop. It's awesome!
and as for the madonna comparisons. Let me just say this, Express Yourself sounds exactly like Respect Yourself so you're stupid if you think ALL artists don't borrow from others. Music afterall is reinventing old ideas, refreshing them and making them your own, And Born This Way has Lady Gaga written all over it!

This is a phenomenal song! I can't wait for the album

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, February 8, 2011
This review is from: Bleu Noir (Audio CD)
Mylene returns with this dark album full of emotion and passion. I'm absolutely loving it, it took me a while to appreciate it, but the more i listened to it the more i understood where she was coming from and the more i liked it.

1. Oui Mais... Non - A great track, full of dance and playful lyrics you just can't help but to sing along to. I absolutley love it!! 10/10

2. Moi Je Veux - Very melancolic and the vocals are somehow very New Age mixed with Pop which gives it a very unique feeling. One of the standout ballads of the ablbum. 10/10

3. Bleu Noir - Probably the most beautiful song on the album, the lyrics are incredible. The song deals with hearbreak and finding the strength to keep living and holding on to life, because love can be a beautiful battle worth losing. Amazing song and one of my favorites. 10/10

4. N'Aie Plus D'Amertume - another great ballad, this one brings tears to my eyes. The emotion in her voice is very heartfelt. 10/10

5. Toi L'Amour - I think one of the most difficult songs on the album to like. It's very mature, the sound is very complex, but the more i've listened to it the more i'm liking it. Very good 9/10

6. Lonely Lisa - chock full of dance and energy. This song flirts a bit with techno and i'm loving it! Impossible not to like this song! 10/10

7. M'Effondre - Great track. enough said. 10/10

8. Light Me Up - The English song of the album and Mylene sounds much differently. Her voice in English when she sings sounds more powerful even though the song is very mellow. I really like this one 10/10

9. Leila - Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I love the middle eastern vocals from Mylene towards the end, the whole song is just great 10/10

10. Diabolique Mon Ange - Another standout track, Classic Mylene. 10/10

11. Inseperables - A Very sad song about love lost and how you will always miss that person. Mylene did an outstanding job with this one 10/10

12. Inséparables - The French version of the latter song. The lyrics are kinda different but still keeps the same theme. She sounds different in both song which keeps it fresh. 10/10

Mylene Farmer is an incredible song-writer, she did a great job with "Bleu Noir"
It's outstanding!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much noise and not enough Loud, November 16, 2010
This review is from: Loud [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
Barbados native Rihanna has always been the type of (gulp) singer whose fame has constantly exceeded her actual talent and capabilities as an artist. She's the prime example of how good looks and the right amount of sex appeal can get you guaranteed radio play and a contract.

Yes, her music is catchy and infectous, but it doesn't outreach to anything more than that. and with "Loud" she only just reaffirms it even more. The whole album feels like they threw some generic lyrics on some dance beats and called it a day.

There's nothing here that's going to impact the face of pop music, or would ever leave a mark on pop culture and be remembered years to come. "Loud" is just a normal fun pop cd you'll wanna listen to while you're out in the club, driving, or just doing some cleaning around the house. It's the type of album you dispose of 5 months later since there's nothing really here with enough UMPH to make you wanna keep coming back and still be listening to it far off into the future.

My guess is that this album is just going to fade into obscurity after a couple months. It's too generic & too bland to have any type of instant catapult that would make it a sure fire trail blazer with staying power.

I think what she should do is just stop getting writers to write songs for her according to whatever fashion mood she's in that month, cause the only outcome we're all left with is a very uncreative and uninspiring end result.

At this point i think i'm actually prefering angry and psychotic Rihanna. We get more out of her that way, Cause now it seems she's crossing over to Katy Perry bubble gum territory, not that she's a stranger to that, but i thought she had got rid of that and found her own sound with "Rated R"

There really isn't any surprise that this turned out to be a very uninspiring piece of work. She's released 5 consecutive albums every year besides '08 since her debut in 2005. I think maybe what she needs to do is get away for a while, give herself some time to miss the art of being a singer and maybe get a chance to get inspired by other things other than her current hair style.

All in all "Loud" gets "Rated G"

For Generic
