5.0 out of 5 stars Barbara Mandrell - It Works For Me, July 31, 2002
This review is from: It Works for Me (Audio CD)
This release, Mandrell's swan song, was one of the strongest and most consistent of her 20+ year recording career. It deserved more (or SOME!) attention from country radio!! A stronger first (and only) single than "TEN POUND HAMMER" could have possibly helped grab listeners' and radio's attention. It's a good line-dance song and may have worked as a 2nd, 3rd or later single release, but I believe she should have released "GET HERE", "YOUR ONE AND ONLY" or "LOVE BY ANY NAME" as a lead-off single. All three would have been contenders for the Top 40!
Other standout cuts are "TO MY HEART", "HEART FROM A STONE", "TEMPTATION", and the poignant, touching 1987'S "CHILD SUPPORT"-like "JUST LIKE ME".

1.0 out of 5 stars Fooled By A Feeling CD Review, July 25, 2002
This review is from: Fooled By a Feeling (Audio CD)
The greatest thing about this compilation is the number of rare cuts that were digitally remastered and included on it. "Take Care Of You", "Look What Love Has Done" (one of Mandrell's best cuts ever!!) and "It Can Wait" were placed on it and makes Mandrell fans yearn for more of the same type of compilations! Her singles with her MCA tenure were spectacular, but, by the same token, some of her album cuts were equally as compelling!!
Other standouts on this CD are more of her lesser-known Top Tens like "Fooled By A Feeling", "Only A Lonely Heart Knows", "No One Mends A Broken Heart Like You" and "Hold Me"!
This collection is WELL worth the purchase as far as a break in the repetitious compilation releases of Mandrell's over the last few years! Please, MCA Records - put together more of Barbara's releases like the ones included on this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars B. Mandrell - Forgotten tracks to be digitally remastered, July 25, 2002
As one of Barbara's biggest fans for the last 22 years, I can honestly say, I have mixed emotions with MCA Records at this point! It seems over the last 5 years since Barbara "retired" from the recording industry that this major Record Label, with whom Barbara brought many, many hits over a 20-year period is giving her, not to mention her legions of fans, a raw deal by re-hashing and re-releasing compilations of the same singles she had over her tenure with MCA Records. Not that these songs are not spectacular, but I believe they should review her catalog of album cuts over these years and consider a compilation of "rare" album cuts and B-sides to be digitally re-mastered.
The standouts on this compilation, due primarily to lack of availability on CD format are "'Till You're Gone", "One Of A Kind Pair Of Fools", and "Happy Birthday Dear Heartache" - not to take away credit from any of the other eight magnificent cuts on this collection.
I just feel that, MCA (if you are reading this!) should review and consider re-mastering some of Barbara's spectacular album cuts from her catalog and releasing a compilation CD, or even better, a Box Set!! Songs to consider for this potential project: "Cryin' All The Way To The Bank" (1983); "Just Like Old Times" (1984); "If They Grow Tired Of My Music" (1985); "Survivors" (1985); "Why Am I Still In Love" (1982); "How Long" (1977); "Sometime, Somewhere, Somehow" (1980); "Black and White" (1982); "Bad Boys" (1983); and "Don't Look In My Eyes" (1985) - just to name a select few of so many!!
Take a note MCA Records - thanks for the continued interest in Barbara's previous recording accomplishments. Let's just not forget the songs that weren't so obvious and well-known and digitally re-master them onto CD format! I'm sure it would be a best-seller due to rarity!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trisha at the top of her game!!, July 22, 2002
This review is from: Inside Out (Audio CD)
I have purchased every single Trisha Yearwood CD since her self-titled debut in 1991, and I can honestly say, this is truly her best effort to date (closely followed by 1995's THINKIN' ABOUT YOU)! From the powerfully uplifting "Love Alone" to the mournful "When We Were Still In Love", Trisha does not miss a single beat throughout the entire CD!
Contrary to previous reviews, I believe Trisha's rendition of "Seven Year Ache" is a major improvement and worthwhile update of the original, considering Trisha's vocal ability far surpasses that of Rosanne Cash by miles!
"I Don't Paint Myself Into Corners" is a clear indication of the power in Trisha's pure, crystal-like voice - I get goosebumps on the final line where she holds the extended note in the word "myself". She puts so-called "divas" Shania, Faith and Celine to total shame!!
"Harmless Heart" and "Melancholy Blue" are the two greatest ballads she has recorded since "How Do I Live" and "Where Your Road Leads". Both cuts should be future singles and are totally Grammy-worthy next year!
"Inside Out" is clearly a feel-good, fun song to kind of break up the tear-jerking ballads on either side of it on the CD, and does a magnificent job of doing so! It should have been a bigger chart hit than it was, but, hey, it's a great addition to her catalog! The cut is not very "country" in production, but big deal - it's Trisha!!! Her voice transcends all musical barriers! (Faith, Shania and Jo Dee don't even come close!!)
Finally, to disagree with a previous review on the opening cut "Love Alone", another stand-out track on this compilation by the way, Ms. Yearwood pulls it off effortlessly! Perfect voice control, strength and power!
I feel some of these "reviewers" are stuck in the twangy, cry-in-your-beer country of 25-30 years ago - come on people, it's 2002! Trisha's lyrics, orchestrations and vocal prowess are intelligent, mature and flawless! Country, pop, AC - who cares?! It's music you can listen to once and find yourself pressing the "Repeat All" button on your CD player!!! If you want female country twang, buy a Terri Clark or Dixie Chicks CD!! For total class, it's Trisha and, closely second, Martina McBride!
