5.0 out of 5 stars Single Player Experience, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Gears of War 3 (Video Game)
Gears of War 3 succeeds where other trilogy enders fail. Some people play for the online, and others play for the story, and as time goes by it seems games are focused more on the multi-player aspect while the single player seems like a second thought. I don't play online. To me, a great game comes from a story that is fun to play, and characters who are fun to be.

Gears of War 3 is the last game in the "Delta Squad" trilogy. The games lead characters have come a long way from the juiced up one liners from the first game. Gears of War 3 is more of a emotional story than the past games, and you may find yourself caring about Marcus, Dom, Cole, and Baird more than you would in any other game. They succeeded in making you care for the soldiers of Delta Squad. And that is what is missing in most games today and it was good to see that Epic Studios wrapped up the story is a mostly neat package. I say mostly because almost every question is answered in the final game.

Not only does Gears play great, but it looks and sounds amazing. Even with the volume on a normal setting, Gears 3 explodes in the sound department. Thats to be expected from a Gears of War game. Gears 3 looks incredible. For its time, the first game was a visual treat, but the environments were mostly small and grey. But not in the final game. The levels later in the game look amazing. Way more green and way more outdoor environments to curb stomp your enemy.

Gears of War 3 works on so many levels and I can't even write about all the multiplayer features like Verses and Horde and Beast Mode since I don't play online. As a single player game Gears does not disappoint. Great Visuals, Excellent sound, and a good story that will stay with you after the credits roll equals a game that is not to be missed. I look forward to more games in the Gears universe in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent Show, September 12, 2011
I got into Fringe halfway through the first season and since then I have been hooked. I've read some great reviews and don't intend to write the same things that others have so I'll just explain why this show is so appealing to me. I rarely watch tv anymore because everything is so predictable. Most shows have a crime that needs to be solved and within the next 30-45 minutes it is solved. Wash, rinse, repeat. Fringe is a new kind of show that has some of the best writing and story elements of any show out there. It's fun to go back to the first season and find all the things you miss the first time around. Some episodes are great as a stand alone story but most of the episodes move the story forward inch by inch. Just when you think you have the answer, they change the question. The characters are very likable. Fringe is the only show that I feel as if by watching it I actually get smarter. Brilliant show! The Blu-ray looks great and has enough extras to keep the disk in your Blu-ray player after all the episodes are done. If you're reading this you are most likely a fan of Fringe already as it has a very loyal fan base. I hope that enough people watch the next season. This is a show that should end on its own, not by the "Observers" at Fox.

4.0 out of 5 stars A few problems hold this game back, May 28, 2011
L.A Noire is perhaps the start of a new age in games. From the realistic animations to engaging story line, L.A. Noire is not your typical video game. I assume that anyone reading this has already read dozens of other positive reviews, so I'll keep this short and tell you why I think this game is not quite worth 60 bucks. L.A. Noire is an experience to play, but an experience you'll only want to play through once. The reason I think this game is a 4 star and not a perfect 5 star game.....

Very Linear- There is nothing wrong with a good story, and that is what L.A. Noire does best, however, there is little to nothing else to do during the story missions. Sure you can answer police dispatch calls and help bring bank robbers or thieves to justice, but the variety of side missions is seriously lacking. There is little incentive to actually complete these tasks.

Open World??- The map for L.A. Noire is massive, but there is nothing to do. I mean come on... your telling me there is nothing fun for a cop to do during his down time in LA in the 40's? It's almost a big tease to have such a wonderfully recreated LA, only to be able to see famous landmarks, and only interact with buildings that move the story line forward.

No Customization- To me, the best games are the ones where you can be your own character. Want to be good and rescue dames in distress? Go for it. Want to kill the same person and shoot everyone in sight? It's your option, go for it. Yes, this is NOT Grand Theft Auto, your character is an "Honest" hard-working man. But why not be able to purchase your own outfit? Or buy a new gun? I was hoping that I would have been able to go to a gun shop and buy a .45 Magnum and play "Dirty Harry." Sadly you have the same pistol throughout the game. During a firefight you are able to pick up a shotgun or Thompson, but as soon as the mission is over your back to your hand gun. I hope in the sequel they have more options for custumization. And why have unlockable cars that you have to track down and drive, only to have them respawn back to the same place when you take another car? How about a police lot where you can store all your vehicles?

Over all this is a very solid game, I tip my hat to the animation, voice acting and story. But the replay value is very low. Give it a rent, your 60 dollars could go toward a game with a little more replay value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Needed a little more polish, April 9, 2011
I am a console only player. Nothing wrong with PC but I was never into games so much as to spend huge amounts of money to constantly upgrade. So I haven't played the first Crysis to really understand the story, but I still had fun all the way through its 6-8 hour single player campaign. Crysis 2 is very very loud game. I barely had my volume half way when the beginning logo came on for EA and Crytek and it did this "Transformer" type sound effect that rattled my window. And you just might go deaf from the weapon sound effects that sound like a blockbuster Hollywood movie.

Another thing the game does really well is make the player feel like a bad ass. The is nothing more satisfying than turning on cloaking, stalking an enemy, and knifing him or snapping his neck Predator style. You can turn on Armor mode and yank a 50. cal off a vehicle and mow down the enemies. The Campaign starts off a little slow at first, giving you your suit powers one at a time. And it takes a few levels to get to the interesting weapons and that is when it picks up speed and becomes way more fun. You can fit most of your weapons with a laser sight or a silencer. Nothing like taking out enemies with a silenced shotgun.

The graphics in this game are, at times, amazing. During the campaign there will be these big moments when a building will collapse and everything will shatter, or a bridge will crumble. Truly epic stuff here.
Now on to the not so good. I think this game could have used a bit more polish. Toward the end of the game I noticed some screen tearing, and the last cutscene froze up a few times, I thought my Xbox was crashing! Sometimes when you go to grab an enemy it will glitch and you'll grab on to thin air. Or the enemies will freeze or run around in place. The A.I. really leaves something to be desired. Grabbing a sniper rifle, popping on of their buddies in the head will only alarm them until you hide, and turn on cloak. But Overall Crysis 2 has a fun, and really loud campaign with stupid enemies but nice visuals. If the enemies were more of a challenge it would be 5 stars, but I had to drop a star for the A.I.

3.0 out of 5 stars Based on a "True" Story, January 26, 2011
I'll keep this short since everyone is probably in a hurry to check their facebook statuses. After all they hype this movie got I decided to buy it on blu ray. Well me and my girlfriend sat down and watched the movie. The first thing that bothered me was the character of Mark Zuckerburg. His character is a know-it-all annoying character that most of us avoid in real life. I've never met Mr. Zuckerburg but if he is anything like the movie portrayed him, he is arrogant and frankly uninteresting. I cared little for him through out the whole movie and was waiting for him to get his come-up-ins.

After the movie was over I was a little confused as to why this movie was hailed by some as " The defining movie of this generation" god we are in so much trouble if that is true... I ended up reading something in a newspaper about how the movie made up the story about how Mark started to create facebook. I guess making a movie about guys who sat around their dorms and ate pizza while they talked about girls would be pretty boring.

The Social Network is not a bad movie, its just a very average one. It tries so hard to be this epic story of betrayal and greed when in reality the movie had very little impact or lasting impression on myself. On a different note, the acting is pretty top notch. I mean, who would have thought that Justin Timberlake would be a good actor. So it may be a decent movie, and I may have been hard on it only cause it got so much attention and praise, but for me this movie was a rent, not worth a purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prince of Townies, December 20, 2010
This review is from: The Town [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
When I saw the midnight showing of "Inception" one of the previews that came on was for a little movie called "The Town." By the end of the explosive preview the whole theater was buzzing about what they just saw. I nudged my girlfriend's arm, "We need to see that!"

I fell in love with this movie. From Ben Afflack's tough guy character, to Rebecca Hall's innocent character Claire. Most people have their opinions on the movie but the blu ray is what is really special. The Blu ray includes a 30 minute longer extended edition. Any one who has read Chuck Hogan's "Prince of Thieves" (The book that the movie is loosely based on) will enjoy the extended scenes that mirror parts in the book better than the theatrical release. I enjoy watching the extended edition because it really feels like a different movie, unlike Avatar, which only added 8 minutes of CGI porn into the theaters.

To be honest I think that the regular theatrical edition flows better than the extended one. The audio is top notch, the second heist scene and car chase that follows really sounds amazing. And the picture is clear enough that you can see Ben's 5-o'clock shadow perfectly. Over all a good movie, great disc that offers a longer, ( longer ) edition. Well recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game with a few flaws..., November 4, 2010
You should know what you are getting with Goldeneye for the Wii. This is a sort of remake of the Goldeneye story. Although many characters and events from the movie are in the game they are done so in a more realistic "Daniel Craig" way, and thats great. The controls take some getting used to if you are using the nunchuk and remote. For a Wii game the animations are great. From a bad guy running away and shooting at you at the same time, to an enemy stumbling because you shot him in the leg. The only downside to the game is that the graphics make it hard to see enemies. In the second level you are in a dance club and must fight your way out, the problem is that the environment is blue and dark and you have enemies shooting at you from everywhere. Its just a small annoyance in an otherwise fantastic game.
