Schae and Jay love each other dearly and work hard at keeping their marriage strong, but when a difference in religious beliefs and an outsider slowly put a snag in their marriage, will it be strong enough to weather the uprising storm that lie ahead.

Delia may have found her true prince charming in Thane, however there are two issues that may keep her from pure bliss. The man who loves her is much younger than she and her estranged husband wants her back. Delia must decide which man will make her the happiest woman in the world.

On the surface, Regina James seems to have her life together. Her devastating past breaks through the surface and her life is spiraling out of control and whoever is in her path will face her wrath.

MIXED MARRIAGES AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS is a story of compromise, self-discovery and happiness, with a little bit of insanity thrown into the mix. I enjoy reading books written by Ms. Menchan. They're family-oriented with a grown-up twist. I love how her books focus on the dynamics of family and marriage. Her clean approach in writing her stories makes the reading all the more pleasurable. The characters are down-to-earth and full of energy.

The ending of MIXED MARRIAGES AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS leaves an opened door for a sequel and I can't wait to read more escapades about these characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and Politics, January 10, 2013
This review is from: Jessamine (Kindle Edition)
JESSAMINE, a story of a mystical bond between two women and the men they love..

After the death of her father, fifteen-year-old Arabella is sent to England to live with her aunt and uncle. For seven years she was the governess to their children and was ready to move on. After having no luck with finding another governess job, she soon stumbles upon an advertisement of an Administrator from St. Crescens in search of a governess for his children. When she arrives on Caribbean island of St. Crescens, she sets her eyes on the beautiful home, Jessamine. However, she lands in the middle of a political uprising and racial upheaval. In spite of all the mayhem which surrounds her, Arabella finds true love in Leando Joseph and soon her life will be forever changed.

Grace left her career in the States to be with her husband, Julian in St. Crescens to support him in his political career. Because she is an outsider, the people of the island aren't friendly toward her and they both could possible be facing danger. He renovates the old Jessamine estate and makes it their home. Grace feels a strange presence that will later take her on a journey to revisit the past.

I truly enjoyed reading JESSAMINE. Ms. O'Neal's eloquent, vivid descriptions of the characters and the Caribbean made this story such a pleasure to read. The transitioning of the past to the present of Arabella to Grace was effortless. Although both were great characters, I found myself more engrossed with Arabella's story. The gripping historical moments was the backdrop for JESSAMINE which held me captive to the end of the story.

I hope to read more of Eugenia O'Neals books.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Consider My Servant, September 24, 2012
This review is from: Invisible Enemies (Paperback)
The Book of Job from the Bible tells the story of a godly man named Job, whom God allowed Satan to test. What if God asked Satan to consider you? What would this story look like today?

The Harris family has been a member of Grace Faith Church for many years. Although God loves this family, he has a special focus for the daughter, Abby. Abby truly has a love for God and is a faithful worker in the Church. He has big plans for her, but Satan wants to thwart all those plans and will work through anything and anybody to accomplish his goal. All Satan need is a way in. He finds it in the family dynamics as far as how they relate to Abby, especially with her older sister Candace.

As Satan sets his sight on wreaking havoc for Abby, the family is introduced to the Nelsons. They are a family who practice a different type of belief that involves evil spirit guides. In fact, their entire lifestyle is so attractive to Mr. and Mrs. Harris once introduced, they fall for it hook, line and sinker, turning their backs on God. From then on it is a matter of infiltrating and attacking Abby and her family constantly--wherever there is an opportunity, big or small.

INVISIBLE ENEMIES by Lynda D. Brown is an eye-opening account of how good is always at battle with evil. Brown introduces the little voices in our heads as angels or demons, depending on where our hearts lie. She doesn't just show how the demonic spirit world works against us, she gives a good lesson in how to fight them. The author also covers how God never deserts us even though we desert Him. My only issue with this book was the need for some additional editing. Otherwise this book becomes a very powerful witness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retaking Control, September 24, 2012
Nora Darkin has spent most of her life trying to please her father for some imagined wrong she felt she had done. Her father has always expected her to do his will exactly as he says. Her current engagement to his right hand man, Liam Connolly, meets with her father's approval. In fact, he is planning the entire wedding right down to the honeymoon. On the surface, everything appears fine; however, the night before the wedding, Nora makes a shocking announcement.

Now, at odds with her father and trying to escape the turmoil she just caused, Nora flits away to Dreara, a fictional town in Ireland where she becomes immersed in the town's culture, history and its people. It is in Dreara where she finds love again and discovers herself. Meeting Ethan Danes gives Nora a new lease on life; but, he too have issues.

CHOCOLATE AFTERTASTE by Liz Grace Davis is about living life on your own terms. Davis introduces us to the consequences we face when we give others power over our lives. The main character, Nora, had moved from relationship to relationship based on how others felt and thought. She buried her dreams and desires first in her father's wishes, then in her fiancé's. In Dreara, she learns to put herself first and make her own life choices.

Ireland was the backdrop for this skillfully written novel. Davis puts her skills to the test in providing a very picturesque view of the area and introducing characters that made you think. This was a refreshing read with a few unexpected twists.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Past Never Stays In The Past, September 24, 2012
Ten years later after the end of White Lines, Sunny and Jada have picked up the pieces from their past lives of drugs abuse to a life of normalcy, or is it?

After the death of her fiancé, drug kingpin Dorian, Sunny focuses on raising their daughter. Dorian left her rich and the sky's the limit for her and her daughter, Mercedes. After the collaboration of a book she wrote with Jada skyrockets on the bestseller's list, a lucrative movie deal is waiting in the wings. However, that's not all waiting for Sunny. After struggling for many years to remain clean, circumstances cause Sunny to slip. Will the love of someone new take away her life's pain and addiction, or has she fallen too deep?

Jada couldn't be any happier with her life. She has a great job, lives in a nice environment and raises her son, Sheldon with much love. There is even hope for her and Born to become a family. However, things begin to change when she notices the transformation in her son's behavior. She doesn't exactly know how to handle him and his evil actions may be causing a wedge between her and Born.

WHITE LINES II: SUNNY, is the long awaited sequel to White Lines; same characters, with the exception of a new one, drama, but not so much of it. Although the novel is supposed to be about Sunny, I felt more interested in Jada's story. This is the very reason I don't really care to read sequels. For me, a sequel has to be more explosive and mind-blowing than its prequel and this one fell a little short. This novel has a lot of potential of being a good story with grit and excitement. As I was drawing near to the end of the novel, the story began to skyrocket, opening a door for another sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Devil Woman, September 24, 2012
After Pilar's disappearance, famous author Xavier Preston's mission is to forget she was stalking him and get his life back to normal. His bestseller became a hit on the movie screen and he seems to be moving forward, but the memories of her evilness continue to haunt him. Although his best friend attempts to get him to loosen up and find a good woman, Xavier persists with the behavior which got in trouble in the first place.

Pilar may have moved to another city; however, she's not yet through with Xavier, She slowly creeps back into his life waiting for the right moment to strike, and whoever gets caught in the crossfire will suffer the consequences.

THE STALKER CHRONICLES is the sequel to Diary of a Stalker. The story was fast-paced and entertaining. Some events in the story were predictable and it moved too quickly, but out of curiosity I had to see Pilar's malicious acts unfold.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Final Chapter, September 24, 2012
Annette and her best friend, Rhoda are once again knee deep in drama in this final installment of Mary Monroe's God series.

Annette and her ex-husband, Pee Wee are on the verge of reconciliation, but his former mistress has other plans. Blind-sided with the alarming news of the mistress's pregnancy, Annette feels getting back with Pee Wee just isn't in the cards. Once again, when her life is turning upside down she takes to the comfort of food, men and a little neglect towards her daughter, Charlotte. Annette doesn't have a clue of the danger surrounding her daughter.

Rhoda overcame several challenges that could have cost her life. She won her battle with breast cancer and survived a stroke; but nothing was more challenging than dealing with her evil daughter, Jade. She becomes torn and confused when she believes her lover made advances toward her daughter. Once the truth is revealed, she prepares herself for Jade's wrath.

Ms. Monroe continues to grace the pages with Annette and Rhoda's long time friendship and sisterly love for each other. She's created characters whose day-to day challenges make them seem genuine and the humor lightens some of the serious areas in the book.

I have read the entire God series. I've enjoyed the "God phrases" her grandmother used to say and how they became the titles for her novels. Each title had a message and in GOD DON'T MAKE NO MISTAKES, the message is God has a master plan for each one of us. Nevertheless, in my opinion after the third installment, the stories became predictable and this novel wasn't an exception to the rule. However, it provided great entertainment and I will miss the down-to-earth characters. I hope to read more stories from Ms. Monroe in the near future.

Beautiful, Dirty, Rich: A Novel
Beautiful, Dirty, Rich: A Novel
by J. D. Mason
Edition: Hardcover
7 used & new from $22.90

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Picking Up The Pieces, September 24, 2012
Blink, a small town in Texas is anything but quaint and quiet. Twenty-five years ago, Desdimona "Desi" Green rattled the town and its residents down to the core. Upon release from prison for the murder of Julian Gatewood, one of the richest men in Blink, Desi begins to put her life back in order. When she inherits millions after her release and is given a chance to tell her side of the story, someone is determined to keep her from telling the truth.

The pages of BEAUTIFUL, DIRTY, RICH are crammed with dirty secrets, murder, betrayal and sweet revenge. J.D. Mason's creative flair and mystifying plot ignite a desire to quickly read the story to get to the end, but once you get there you wish it never ended. While I enjoyed reading this novel there were a couple of drawbacks. There were some repetitive moments which were slow moving and I would have liked to see more strength in a couple of the characters.

BEAUTIFUL, DIRTY, RICH is an energetic whodunit which many J.D. Mason fans will enjoy.

AURA BROWN: LIFE CHOICES
AURA BROWN: LIFE CHOICES

4.0 out of 5 stars My Life, My Choice, June 17, 2012

Although life was moving too quickly for Aura and Malcom "MII" with a new baby on the way, Aura's change in sexual preference and their upcoming nuptials, they couldn't be any happier. That is, until Ryoko returns home with plans to gain custody of Amy and win back her true love.

After the birth of their twins, Aura begins to feel suffocated and yearns to return to work as an attorney. However, MII is dead set against it; emotions begin to fly and to make matters worse, she's being pursued by a new admirer. She comes from a lineage of strong-willed women and will not allow anyone to control her life and MII will have to accept her decision; or will he?

After reading AURA BROWN: Life Choices, one may see Aura as selfish for not wanting to stay home full-time to take care of her family, especially since her husband doesn't want her to work. I found her character to be refreshing yet strong-minded. I love the way Angelia Vernon Menchan displays a warm, loving connection within the Brown/Black family dynamics; the issues they face and the power to overcome.

I enjoyed reading this hearty story of choices, love and truth. The only drawback is the grammatical errors; not a lot, but enough to take notice.

Deceit and Devotion
Deceit and Devotion
by RM Johnson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $18.15
76 used & new from $0.01

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Who Can You Trust?, June 6, 2012
This review is from: Deceit and Devotion (Hardcover)
DECEIT AND DEVOTION is the 4th installment in RM Johnson's Million Dollar series. As the book opens, Daphanie is heartbroken because she voluntarily signed her parental rights away on the hopes of having a future with Nate Kenny, but he rejected her in the end. She is so distraught; she enlists the help of his ex-wife, Monica, the woman she took him from, to help get her child back. Monica is dealing with her own issues; plagued with recurring nightmares of the night she was shot and desperate for a loving relationship; her life is a mess. Through Monica's decision to help Daphanie, she meets Austin Harris, but will her obsession to get revenge ruin her chances at happiness?

With this installment, readers are introduced to the Harris brothers - Austin, Marcus and Caleb. Austin is a successful attorney, who has everything except the wife and kids he crave. Marcus, a free-spirited artist, fails to understand why his wife has a problem with him not looking for a standard 9 to 5 job to produce regular income. Caleb manages his own janitorial business, one of the few jobs he can obtained as a convicted felon. He is trying to keep his son from going down the same path he did as a young man.

DECEIT AND DEVOTION is filled with action and drama. Johnson intertwined the lives of all the characters both the old and the new. The story is a fast and easy read but I feel I would have enjoyed it more if it was a stand-alone with the new characters plot? For a reader who has not read any of the previous books, this could pose a problem reading it as a stand-alone because there was too many character's backgrounds that you would have to understand to get a grasp of their motives and actions. I've read them all and had trouble remembering how some of the roles fit into the story. Nonetheless, it is a really interesting read with a cliffhanger ending that promises another book in the series.
