5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, even if you're not a hiker!, April 8, 2015

This is a great book, even if you're not a hiker. Erin writes in a casual style with a wonderful sense of humor that had me laughing and reading parts out loud to my wife. I did the portion of the PCT from Campo and left in Julian back in the mid 70's. Brought back some memories, and made me interested in doing more of the trail

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, November 7, 2012
This new update to the Aperture 3 Portable Genius covers the latest version of Aperture with how-to info on the new controls, such as white balance, and the changes to the Highlights & Shadows controls.
What sets this book apart from others is the clear and straight forward explanations on how to use Aperture to its best advantage. Covering everything from the initial importing to printing your work, Ellen & Josh Anon walk you through the controls and options, throwing in plenty of tips and tricks to help your workflow. Although I am an Apple certified trainer for Aperture, I picked up a few things I didn't know before.
If you're just getting started with Aperture, this is a great guide. If you've been using the app and think you know your way around, I think you'll still find some nuggets that make this a worthwhile addition to your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stylus for the iPad, May 11, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very pleased with this stylus for my iPad. The Pogo was a bit too slim for my likes, but the AYL fits nicely. I like the rubber tip compared to the foam style I've used before. The weakest point for me is the lanyard that connects to the headphone jack. It comes out pretty easily, so I don't use this when I might be moving around where it could be lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for any 7D user, January 9, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Charlotte has written a number of books in this series on different Canon EOS digital models, but after reading the 7D Field Guide, I think she's taken it a step beyond the others with excellent content that any 7D user, new or experienced will find helpful.
The first two chapters are nice overviews of camera features and basic setup, getting the newcomer up to speed in a straight forward way that far surpasses the manual included with the camera.

Chapter 3 is where Charlotte really starts to dive into how to get the most from your camera with the the topics covering exposure and the focus system the best I've read anywhere. The next chapters, on color, and live shooting are similarly well done, but chapter 5 opened some new ideas up to me that I hadn't considered for customizing the camera controls - this chapter alone was worth the price of the book.

Although I don't use movie mode when I shoot, it was an interesting read and gave me some ideas to consider when I do decide to venture into video.

The next two chapters on flash and lenses should be considered must read - many users struggle with which lens to get, and how to shoot flash. Charlotte breaks it all down in a clear style that gives you the info you need without talking down or getting too technical - kudos to Charlotte for this approach.

The final three chapters include a wealth of info on shooting various types of subjects and how to get the most from your 7D when doing this work.

I don't typically comment on other works, but when I compare this book to others available, Charlotte has done an outstanding job - good writing style, excellent information (and, unlike another book on the 7D, accurate information), and information on not just the basics, but how to take your camera and photography to a new level of skill.

If you have, or are considering the 7D, you owe it to yourself to get this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mildly disappointed, July 28, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After reading many of the reviews comparing this to King's "The Stand", I had high hopes for this one. After getting through the first third of the book and wondering if the action would ever get started, the book improved and was more entertaining to read. Certainly not The Stand, but entertaining. Things started falling apart in the final third of the book though. Action for the sake of action, improbable meetings, and escapes. What really let me down though was the ending. It felt like the author just got tired of carrying the story on and ended it with too many loose ends.
If there's a second volume, I'll read it just to see what happens to the main characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for all Photoshop users, June 16, 2010
The latest book by Ellen and Josh Anon is the best yet with excellent coverage of Photoshop CS5's new features and beautiful photography. The authors are both accomplished photographers and teachers, making this book approachable to anyone with an interest in improving their photographs with Photoshop. Although the title says nature, and most of the images are certainly nature oriented, regardless of your photographic interests, you'll find something useful here.

1.0 out of 5 stars A total waste of paper and money, June 4, 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I picked this up for my wife who is into genealogy. The book is a complete disappointment. The family name specific information would fill maybe 3 pages of text and the rest is just generic info that is most likely the same in every version of the book.
Don't waste your money on this one, spend 5 minutes online and you can have the same amount of data.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the new 30D owner, November 18, 2006
Charlotte's Digital Field Guides for the Digital Rebel have helped thousands of Rebel shooters get the most from their new camera. The 30D Field Guide takes this up another level to cover Canon's prosumer body.

With clear information that goes well past the manual included with the camera, Charlotte provides practical advice on shooting techniques and using the advanced features of your new camera.

I'm not sure what the lobotomy reviewer was expecting, but this book delivers everything promised on the back cover and more.

If you've read through the manual and are still confused, or you're the type of person that benefits from clear examples, along with images that include full shooting information (something I find very helpful for most users), this is a great book to lead you through the camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage and easy to read, November 1, 2005
I should be clear up front - I'm lucky enough to know Ellen and Tim personally but that has no impact on my thoughts about this book.

Ellen and Tim have done a great job of explaining Photoshop from the nature/landscape photographer's point of view. The additional comments from other pro photographer's gives the reader insight into how a working pro uses the software and the included CD with sample files is great for working through the examples on your own.

If you're looking for a book on how to get results from Photoshop you'll have to look long and hard to find one that matches Photoshop for Nature Photographers.
