4.0 out of 5 stars Good lesson for kids., April 1, 2007
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Good for kids interested in martial arts. The episodes on this tape are mainly about perserverance. Some cheesy music in the 2nd episode of this tape, but it doesn't seem to bother the small ones.

Too bad more of these tapes are not available.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book., March 16, 2007
This is a fine book, but ouchi-gari arguably merits it own book, instead of sharing space. Also, given the nature of ashiwaza finishes, it would have been nice to see some discussion & demonstration of newaza. (As in the 1st Ashiwaza book in this series.) That said, the material that is covered is great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Juji-Gatame., March 15, 2007
If you like juji-gatame (the prone cross-body armlock), then buy this book. Could have used more photos, from some different angles, so 4 instead of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is tape #2., March 1, 2007
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the second tape in the series of 3 tapes that are available through Amazon (or anywhere else, apparently).

"Going for Gold" focuses on Herb Perez, who is a real-life TKD Olympic Gold Medalist; "Broken Promise" is about a misunderstanding between two of the WMAC Masters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Pre-Katrina History . . ., January 30, 2007
An interesting read, especially post-Katrina. Also, there is a chapter about a visit to a nursing home, that everyone should read.

This review is from: Karate "Bo" take-aways (Paperback)
I agree with the other reviewers. This is a good book.

Disclosure: I have not trained in Shotokan in a long time, and never was a dan grade in that style. However, I have done enough staff work over the years to see the value in Sensei Trimble's efforts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A neglected subject., December 28, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a good book on a neglected subject. Over the years (since ca. 1973)in many dojos & dojangs, I have often heard mention of defenses vs. multiple attackers, but have rarely seen any demonstrated, much less taught. Profs. Nakayama & Draeger took the time to think about how karate could be applied to such situations; their efforts were worthwhile. If you are interested in self-defense, buy this book.
