4.0 out of 5 stars don't be fooled by picture, January 19, 2014

This is a small tiffin, so with only two levels you can't take much. But good for simple lunches and well made.

5.0 out of 5 stars some of the best writing about a place in American literature, March 18, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In this amazing collection we get to read all of O'H's wonderful short fiction that touches on his semi-fictional Pennsylvania region. Read these in tandem with his PA novels and you've got an impressive body of work that helps to delineate a time and place in American culture. Then there's always his stunning dialogue and description to top it off.

1.0 out of 5 stars this is not John O'Hara the writer, December 3, 2012
I'm not sure who is pictured on this mug, but it isn't the writer John O'Hara. Perhaps it is the former president of Notre Dame, also J O'H.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best, August 21, 2010
There isn't a celtic record that surpasses this one, and there are only a few that equal it. The Bothy Band rocks.

4.0 out of 5 stars hot irish action, August 21, 2010
This review is from: Carolans Cottage (Audio CD)
Another solid contribution to the surprisingly ill-attended history of recorded Turlough O'Carolan music. While I miss the slightly more dominant flute of the first volume, this one is completely in line with the fine, unostentatious arrangements of her earlier work. I'm looking forward to getting more of this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Molloy's Masterpiece, September 1, 2009
This review is from: Stony Steps (Audio CD)
While I have not heard all of Matt's recorded works--the Claddagh records are hard/expensive to come by here in the Colonies--I am very familiar with his five or six most common records. Stony Steps, in my opinion, is his masterpiece. The phrasing is truly wonderful: there is fidelity to the tunes, but that is bolstered by an amazing use of ornament and flourish. This album has a feel unlike any other Irish flute album I know; there are no false shows of dexterity for the sake of exhibiting talent. And the accompaniment by Arty McGlyn is as artful as Matt's playing. It is the perfect match of ability and artistry, and it has rewarded every listen I have given it since it was released over 20 years ago. The final wonderful touch is the fact that Seamus Heaney wrote the liner notes, long before he became world famous for his Nobel prize.
